Hey all you runners. I ran ld in the past, max 12 miles (loved doing hill runs) then I reduced my miles becuz I started with the knee problems. Then I began to do muscle shows and reduced my running dramatically to 3-4 miles. So now I am retired from shows I will be running again. I will do a 5K then maybe a 1/2 marathon (no 26 for me..body would revolt) . So I have been wearing Sacony, due to my smaller heel, forever. Got my Road Runner Sports and I am thinking maybe change to the Adidas..maybe the Supernova Cushion...or thry the new Aasics Gel-Kinsei whic is new and pricey.
What is everyones all time best shoe ?

Rawfigure,
Congrats on your retiring from shows!!!! What a an exciting accomplishment :)
I have a pair of Adidas Adistar Control that I purchased a month ago that I am totally in LOVE with---the traction is even gorgeous on these shoes too.
I have found Adidas to have the best cushioning, flexibility and traction for my feet and stride. I'm also thinking b/c I have very strong quads that those shoes don't do much for me........I have to feel my shoes in order to have that "take off" stride. Asics and NB make mee feel like I am barefoot.
Asics and NB have never done me any good, in fact, they have slowed my running down. I don't know why but they do.
I have an old pair of Nike shox (LOVE OF MY LIFE)and Adidas that still give me good bouyoncy and mileage.
My socks make a huge difference too.
My running gear is all Nike so at some point I will cross back over and buy a new pair of NIke's.
:)
My favorite shoes are Brooks, and for the past few years I've been wearing the Adrenaline GTS. They have a nice, roomy toe box, which is great for me since I tend to get blisters on my toes. They seem to be the perfect balance for me between cushioning and stability, and have plenty of room for my orthotics. Somehow, they are very supportive without being stiff. And they have survived many a muddy trail run, been thrown in the wash, and come out nice and clean.
I'm thinking of adding some trail runners into the mix as well. I know Brooks has some, but I haven't tried them yet. I had some NB trail shoes a few years ago, and I felt like I was running with cement blocks on my feet -- very unresponsive. Does anyone have any favs?

Hey Kris,
NIce to meet ya!
I have a pair of Adidas Adiprene trails that has done OUTSTANDING on various terrains and hills. They have been thru snow, sleet and rain! I know what ya meanabout NB--no flexibility at all.

I've worn Nikes and New Balance which are great for narrow feet. And I've had Adidas Response in the past. But my current shoe of choice is the Reebok Road Premier Plus. I also have the Reebok Road Premiere Lite. I alternate between them. I get them at the Reebok outlet for >$50 each.
Also, I swear by the double layered Wright Socks. I'm training for a marathon now and haven't had a single blister.
Good luck.

I haven't found a good running shoe that doesn't hurt my feet (I have tried many). I ended up using a NB cross-training shoe. I am on my second pair. My feet are small for a man (size 9.5) but they are wider than normal also. This shoe suits me perfectly. This is a delicate area and definitely worth carefully looking into.
Peace.

Wow thanks...I see the Adidas Adistar Control are recommended for my type foot at Roadrunner so I may give those a shot and also a pair of the Adidas you mentioned for trails would be worth a shot. I am in the VIP club so if I wear a snaeker a fw times and do not like I can return..and I have !!
I am a Thor sock Fan running outside when it is colder, on pavement and Nike socks inside.....

Used to be a Nike girl, then Muzumo (sp?), then Adidas, now New Balance. I buy mine at a place that videotapes you running on a treadmill, then analyzes your stride and gives recommendations based on that. If you have something similar locally, I'd suggest that. Good luck!

I have tried New Balance, Saucony and Asics. Asics win for me because they have a curved last and I get runner's knee with shoes with a straight last. The Saucony's felt great but overall Asics win.

Okay, tried on a pair of Saucony's from a suggestion by a track coach--they had awesome cushiong in the inner sole. We agreed that 98% of NIke's now, just odn't have the inner and outter quality like it use to. :(
Sorry,. i've got the shoe fever now. ;)

I was just recently turned on to a Brooks shoe. I am amazed at how good they feel. I think it is like someone said above, the best thing to do is go to a good shoe shop and have them analyze your personal running style. I found that they can bring you a shoe that best matches that and will compliment your foot. Happy shopping!

Hi. I started riding seriously at about 17 years of age. An injury and a different life path kept me off the bike seriously until I was 35. I'm now 40. I ride Serotta... John Kerry's bike of choice. http://www.serotta.com/
The shop I frequent assembles the items on the bike that require the more specialized tools.
What injury did you have?

WOW,what kind of injuries did you sustain that kept you off the bike?
I have neck and back injuries. use to run 10-15 mi/day and was slowly becoming interested in cycling.
i had the honors of meeting chris carmichael in 2001--giving a lecture in seattle. that was cool.
thanks for the link? have you always ridden serotta? :)

Hey I've been following this thread a little bit to found out what type of cyclist your were.
Back in highschool during my freshman and sophmore year, I had a trainer. He owned a schwinn store, had two other cyclist as well. On tues and thur, we did races at the major taylor Velodrome downtown Indy. I used an old schwinn for a practice bike and then a shimano for the races.
I have 'nt done any road biking for a long time. I feel in love with the mountain biking. Especially after meeting Ned Overend and watching him beat Tinker jeraze( spelling?) at a NORBA Champion race.
Who do you race for? Who's your sponsor? where do you train at?

Hey, I have a propensity to get overuse injuries, usually at tendon attachment areas. Knees. Lateral and posterior. Ihave learned to help myself with massage etc. Ilearned alot about my body when I spent about a year of my time getting intensive sports massageto fix past youthful follies(You mean you can't start riding 300 mile weeks after not riding for three years?). Ha!
I have had two Serotta frames now in six years. Both are as new, structurally, as the day they left the factory in Saratoga. After going through mass produced frames at a rate of one every 8 months these things are great! I tend to be very hard and abusive to my equipment. I just sent one of them for a repainting after 30,000miles.
I love Chris Carmichael. He is right on! I have two of his books.
You sure do run a TON! I guess we are/were in the same passion realm. The weather here in Southern MO has been mild this winter. I had 2 600+ mile weeks in January! I live the life to ride, tend to myself and doggie kidz.

Ey Mike!
Wow, you take great care of your bike frame. Which model frame are you sporting? I notice no prices on those but just by the pics, they are pricey?
A good friend of mine that does seattle- portland ride every year, says custom frames "short" people like me end up spending more money b/c of the fitting. I have alot to learn but it's going to be worth the [ride]
Yeah, I wa slike Dude I 've got to have my picture taken with you..........well actually I was more smily and giggly! :D I searched for those photos last nite and have yet to discover where I put them so I can share them....
I know whatcha mean---there's nothing like being carried away by your "wheels" I find the joy in running and becoming zoned out but I really like the thought of riding for miles and miles.............only things, "those frickin drivers!" ;)
that must be one of your dogs in the avatar-greyhound?
Hey Path301, you moutain bike--that's awesome! lately?

Hey PATH. Ned and Tinker are still going strong. Tinker even races ultra distance road events now! Last fall Tinker got second in Death Valley 508 behind Kenny Souza.
I don't race for anyone. "There is no "I" in team". Ha ha. Indiana has a rich cycling heritage. Little 500. Bloomington and Breaking Away.

Hi Everyone,
Yes, the guys at the gym bust my chops about my Chuck Taylors.
I tell them I'm here to pump iron, not run a marathon.
I spend 15 minutes on the treadmill ,then hit the free weights.
I own a pair on Nike running shoes...couldn't tell you the style.
