View Full Version : Are frozen veggies raw?

I've heard from many, many people that they experience a dramatic increase in health after switching from 95-99% raw to 100% raw. I want to see what they're talking about, and go 100% raw.

As you know, it's hard to find a huge variety of fresh produce in the wintertime. I'd love to be able to use frozen from time to time, but I know that vegetables (even organic ones from Whole Foods) are blanched before freezing. This is done specifically for the purpose of inactiviting the enzymes.

That being said, if I eat frozen (blanced) veggies occassionally, would I still reap the benefits of 100% raw? Don't a lot of the health benefits of being 100% raw come from the enzymes?

Do any of you 100% raw people have experience with this? Do you notice a difference in your health when you eat frozen veggies?

I saw on another thread that someone wrote to Cascadian Farms, asking them whether or not they blanch their vegetables. They wrote back saying that yes, they do . . .

I actually have an experience: I used to eat those frozen veggies, frozen corn and green peas and I was having trouble losing weight.... then I found out they weren't raw and I dropped them and I started losing weight really fast --> just shows you that raw food is always better. :)

I was eating frozen corn for awhile (I thought they were raw)....and I couldn't stop eating them. I didn't feel physically bad...but I just couldn't stop eating them. I would buy bags and bags of frozen corn and make lots of corn salads.....of course corn being the main ingredient. When I finaly found out it was not cooked I stoped eating them. I notice for me that my addiction to the corn was b/c it was blanched and not truly raw. Eliminating frozen corn from my diet for me has helped me not overeat and feel like I still want more food.

ohhh thats so sad, I was using a lot of frozen corn because right now in germany there is no corn in the produce section and I love it :( Is there any brand that isn't blanched?

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I've been having a bad raw day out of nowhere, and have been eating a lot of frozen corn. I've had that same experience, though - makes me want to keep eating, even when I'm not hungry (just like cooked used to do to me). Thanks so much, guys. That put me over the edge on something I was trying to justify. One of those things where I knew in my gut that I shouldn't be eating it if I wanted to be 100% raw, but I didn't have any hard-core evidence from anyone else that I shouldn't, so I just ate it anyway . . .

Hi Julesmoz -- Did you hear that here on the forum or somewhere else? If you can give me some links, I'd love to read about that because I'm struggling with getting myself 100% -- thoughts keep creeping in each day that tell me 95% is plenty and at the end of the day, I'm bummed that I didn't do it full force.
