Okay. A college professor invited me to a Vegan potluck at a University tomorrow. I know there's going to be tons of cooked fun there, but I thought it would be a good chance to meet some vegan friends. Is it a bad idea? Cooked food doesn't appeal to me anymore, but I don't want to be rude and turn down everything. What should I do?

BRING ALOT OF RAW TREATS to the potluck and fill up your plate with your raw delights before they get gobbled up =) that's what i do!

I would go. There will probably be raw stuff like maybe vegan spring rolls, maybe salads or something raw for you.

Plus!! Think of all of those Vegan people who are just a step away from raw. You could talk about it and they would say "You eat all raw food? What a great idea. I think I am going to try that".
Not only will you be the hero of the night, you will have introduced many people who are already interested in taking better care of themselves into an even healthier lifestyle. Plus you may make many new "potential" raw food friends.

i agree with the above that you should go and take some yummy raw food. i also think you will find others who would be interested in raw and who knows you may be having a raw potluck next time.
Or, you could go as above, then invite them all to a raw potluck the next week, month, whatever:)

Definatttttelyyyyy go--IMO because you could have someone be interested in what YOU are doing---you could get more out of the trip that you might ever have thought!!! I find when i have fear going somewhere where food will be served...I put on a great outfit, say a prayer, bring my own fave foods, and smile and go.
PS you do not have to stay all night either--go and go with the flow!! We all are supporting you:)

Here was my experience with social events last year:
At first I avoided them, bc I was afraid of falling off raw.
After a few months of this, I felt deprived bc I missed hanging out with my friends. So I went out to dinner with them, and ate cooked food "just this once" so I could enjoy the same food they did. That became a slippery slope.
My feeling is that if dining with friends is something one enjoys doing, then it's good to learn --as soon as possible -- how to do this AND stay raw at the same time. So like the others said, bring your own food. Also, you may want to eat something beforehand so you don't go in there totally famished.

Thank you for all the advice! I went to the Vegan Potluck yesterday and it was fun. I made my own stuff which was carrot pecan burgers and cucumber soup. Thank God they had some fresh fruits and veggies there as well. It was hard, all the food smelled so good, but I just kept reminding myself all of the great benefits of being raw and I'm not going to let one minute of "pleasure" ruin it for me. Plus, I told them I was eating raw, it would have looked really bad if I gave up and ate their stuff. ;)

Oh, they were great about it! I showed them my burger and they thought was the neatest thing. They kept asking, are you sure that's raw? Yes, I'm sure. ;) They all thought it was really cool. Next time I'll try to make something raw and share it with them.
