OK I don't mean to gross you all out but ever since I've started eating more raw foods I have had the worst gas ever.. Is this normal??

do you do proper food combining? i think that if you follow the rules of food combining, you usually don't have so much a problem with gas, atleast that's what i've found

When I went raw I had this problem with certain foods, broc, cauli and cabbage. Now I am fine. I do proper food combining and that helps loads. Sadly flax seeds still give me gas so no crackers for me now... :(

hmm.. i guess i haven't really been considering proper food combining. i've kind of just been eating whatever raw foods i feel like eating. i guess i need to read more about healthy food combinations. does alissa talk about that in her book? mine should be arriving in the mail any day now.

When you first start out with eating raw, especially if you are coming off of the SAD (standard American diet) try not to OVERLY concern yourself with all the rules, etc. of food combining during this transitional period.

But yes, her book does discusss it..but you'll find that some recipes (mainly the desserts) are not properly combined. The gassiness you are experiencing is pretty common, however, when going from a cooked food diet to a raw food diet regardless as your body makes adjustments. Some experience gas issues even with having properly combined their foods or mono-eating, especially during the beginning stages of being raw.

Good timing on that question. I was thinking the same thing as today I have had some icky gas for the first time in a week. Hmm.. not horendous, but unexpected as I haven't had any gas problems till now. Nice to know it is just the body trying to figure out what I'm doing to it this time! :p

For me the rule is simple - not less than four hours between meals and no raisins - if I manage to keep it - no gas problems.
I eat cabage in sourkraut form and it agrees with me nicely.

Also, this might gross you out, but gas also correlates with how much waste is in your system, and the raw food is probably trying to push it all out; however, there's probably lots of gunk (cooked food residue) stuck to the sides of your colon. Usually, I've discovered that the people who eat the worst when SAD have more gas than those who don't. I know a colonic usually does the trick or even a juice fast if u want. Take care, and hope you feel better.

when I started raw I began with adding green smoothies for breakfast and I had gas from them, but now I don't. I definately think it has something to do with cleaning you out.
