I bought a mango for the first time. Should I just blend it with a banana? Or what?

I'd love to know some favorite mango recipes!

Thanks so much!

Hi Jan,

I am from Trinidad (don't live there now) but over there this is a favorite so simple and tastes so good. Slice the mango and press garlic over it. You can also squeeze a little lime on it first. Sounds odd but is so good!

I have made this and it is also very good: http://greenchefs.tv/indulge/mango-parfait/

mmmm mangos, no better way to eat one than by itself!

also good in smoothes or blended with banana, put in raw pie crust and then frozen

I'm with Earth Sista and Smelly Delly.

Why argue with perfection? I love creating all sorts of gourmet raw recipes, but there are some things I never mess with. A nice ripe mango's one of them. To me you can't improve on that! Just cut it and eat it. If you have kids (or if you want to get fancy) you can make a mango hedgehog out of a half mango, by scoring it in squares, then sort of turning it inside out by the skin.

If your mango is on the unripe side, then I would make a nice thai green mango salad type dish out of it.

A good tip for buying mangoes, smell them. If they're fragrant with that mango smell, they're awesome ones.

My absolute favorite smoothie..

1 mango, peeled
1 orange, peeled
1.5 frozen bananas

Put orange in blender, blend till juicy, add mango and banana, blend. Enjoy :)

I personally never use mango in to many other other recipes because it tastes so good by itself you can't add to much to a mango to make it better,I don't mess with perfection :p

I love making a mango salsa, it sooo good

1 mango chopped
juice of 1 lime
1 chopped chilli, I use the little aisian ones, but any chilli is fine, depends on how hot you want it
1 chopped spring onion OR shallot OR leek
Coriander (cilantro) optional

Blend everything together and let sit to allow flavors to blend.

I love this. It's very fresh and nice and has lots of flavor. It's also super hot. I think the mango does something to the chilli

.... just bury your face into it!! :D there is no need for knives too!! i bite a tiny skin off, at the tip, and peel it off - twirling around slowly and steadily, either by tearing if off with my teeth or gently peeling it off with my fingers.... at this time the juice will drip along your forearms.... what better way to lick it off!! after you've peeled like 3/4 down, need some skin still on the base otherwise it will slip off your hands... sink your teeth into the luscious mangoes!! At this time your eyes would most probably close as you indulge in the lovely succulent fruit.... oh did i mention to do all those while you soak in the bath-tub complete with candles and incense?? you deserve a good time out!! ;) that would be my favorite mango 'recipe'

TOO COOL AISAH!!

I should add that an old time fave would be to slice up the mango and sprinkle with lemon and lime juice and cayenne-not too much if you don't like it spicy. The original idea came from a small food stand at a water park a few summers back where they were selling mangoes on a stick. they would dip it in the "Limon" (pronounced Lee-moan in spanish) and let you sprinkle cayenne on it. This has stuck in my mind since because at the time i was pregnant and saw people walking around with it and started salivating and, of course, HAD TO HAVE ONE. been with me ever since. but aisah's idea is too good to pass up!!!

Hey Rawkinlocs... I don't know what to do with myself sometimes  *plus this raw diet is not 'helping' i get 'worst' on it!* but on a serious note.... ahem, the humble mango, in my opinion, is best experienced as is :D that would be my favorite all-time recipe! and don't over indulge. Have a good one and let the good memory lingers...

best ~ a
