There has been quite a bit of discussion on this topic lately, so I'm hoping some of you have some advice or can at least relate...
I have been very high raw for several months now, and really loving it. The only real problem I have is staying raw in social situations. Anyway, this week I let some cooked food slide back into my diet. The first time it happened was because I had a really hard workout and then waited too long to eat. I started to feel nauseous and light-headed and needed to eat right then, and I reached for something quick that sounded good (black beans, salsa, avocado, and tortilla chips). Other than an uncomfortable belly and a slight headache the next day, I didn't have too many symptoms.
BUT, the next day, I had some cooked lunch (rice, lentils, hummus) and a horrible, awful dinner while entertaining my boss (veggie burger, fried sweet potatoes, some beer...ick). I'm not sure why I felt compelled to eat this way, but I did. And the next morning, I woke up feeling like I had just been hit with the worst case of the flu. I'm home sick from work today, and I have a headache, sinus congestion, runny nose, my throat hurts, and I have body aches.
So, if I had any doubts about the relationship between food and illness and the idea that colds and flus don't really exist, they have most definitely been squelched. But, the question is, now what do I do? I just want this junk out of my system so I can feel good again. Is it best to fast, or just do juice, or just fruit, or green smoothies, or what? I'm sure there's not ONE answer, but have any of you had this experience and found what you think works best to get back on track?
I am really baffled by my body's response to the food I ate. It's very clearly treating it as a toxic invasion. I just want it out!!
