I just bought a young coconut from Wild Oats and it was $1.65- does anyone know what the typical prices for them are? I have seen them online for much more $, but I don't know how much they usually are at an Asian market.
Thanks for your help! :)

I'm not sure about what they sell for at an asian market but @ a regular grocery store, I'm paying $1.99 for a half cut and the health food store they sell it for $3.99 for a whole.

Gosh, I guess I'm doing pretty well then! I was thinking they were pretty well priced but I wasn't sure.

I live in South Carolina and we have an Earthfare, which i buy them for .99 each. They are great! Never had a bad one and for the past six months or so they have been that price.

I'm in north Jersey and they are $2.99 each at the Whole Foods in Montclair, which is a bohemian town full of both insanely rich (million dollar mansions) and dirt poor.
Then there's the Whole Foods in Edgewater, a bit closer to New York City and they are cheaper there at $2.59.
I've seen them a lot cheaper in the Asian markets though, as low as $1.50.

Joopie, Did You Purchase Online Or In The Actual Store? I Went To There Web Sight And Could Not Find Where To Buy Things Online, Only The "sale Items"

I buy them at Shopper's Food Warehouse here in Southern Maryland for 99-149 a piece. I recently received an e-mail from someone who provided a source in DC that sells the young cocounut for a 1.00 a piece -case lots of 9 and 15 of the green case lots for 9.00.
Also, we were told that have all sorts of veggies and fruits that are not typical, so Floyd and I will go shopping next week for produce and young coconuts.

Thanks for responding, everyone!
Shane, I went to the Wild Oats store and they were over by the organic mangos and papayas. They had brown coconuts with the shell sitting right next to them. I talked to the produce guy and he said it's kind of a hit or miss thing with young coconuts. The first few times I was in there they didn't have any and hadn't for a few months. He said he would keep me in mind when ordering, which was pretty cool- and they were there the next time I went. I haven't been in that specific store for a few weeks so I don't know if they have them now.
