Ok - I have been dabbling in raw food for over a year -- and finally TODAY I have figured out what was stopping me. Well .... I DON'T COOK! I don't like to cook -- and to this point my DH has done all of the cooking. Albeit he has been great about making vegetarian items for the past 6 years, even thought he still eats meat. But - when I first started this way of life and the dozen times afterwards I tried to make all of the receipes and such. And it just got too much, so I reverted back to SAD.
Today I treated myself (well, I have been treating myself all week, as I am on vacation, not going anywhere - so I am pretending I am at a spa.) So - today after my first colonic (loved it!!) and facial I went to Ecopolitan (a raw restaurant in Minneapolis) and I LOVED it!!! And that's when it hit me. I don't ever make SAD crackers or SAD pizza crust or anything from SAD scratch for that matter. So, what makes me think that I am going to start liking uncooking? So -- the times when I need something more than a smoothie, a soup or just plain fruits and vegies I need to BUY them. Now, I know this might not be the most economical -- but I have never been good at that anyway. So -- I am 100% committed to raw --- and eventually I MIGHT start using all of the equipment I bought - but I need to remember who I am today. And who I am today CLEANS the kitchen, but never COOKS or evern UNCOOKS in there!
Whew .... what a great revleation to me. Just had to share!
Happpy raw eating! :D

You may find that it is easier to prepare than to source. Where I live that is certainly the case.
Buckley,
It's a revelation isn't it?
I also greatly dislike preparing food of any kind. That is what makes simple raw (picking up a piece of fruit and eating it) and cooked junk (opening a bag or pakage and eating it) so easy.
In another life while raising children I loved cooking and spent my days preparing wonderful, from scratch meals. Some took 3 or 4 hours of active involvement. That life is over, never want to go there again. Would love more children though.
Rawkie started a thread maybe 6 mo ago about the different feelings people have in this matter.

you know what? that is my problem too. I never cooked. Everyone always talks about how easy and quick raw meals are to make but to me it takes more work then I am used to! So getting my foods prepared or making something super easy is what works for me.

Buckley,
You have hit the nail on the head for me with this. Though I can cook, I don't particularly like to, and even when I have done it in the past it's because I "had to" not because I wanted to. I am fortunate to have a large number of raw resources in my general area, but I often don't give myself permission to pay the the higher prices. . .of course, I end up throwing stuff away all the time, so one way or the other the money is going for naught, right?
Anyway - guess I'll go buy some flax crackers on the way home and when I go to AuLac, I'll order enough food to bring home for 2 or 3 more days . . .
Many Blessings,
Karen

Glad I am not alone! I do enjoy just eating fruits and vegies -- but as I said, I have now given myself the permission to buy the other stuff instead of struggling in the kitchen! Whew! Freedom at last!!!

Well count me in.
I didn't like SAD cooking. if I did any it was quick prepared foods. Myhusband thankfully enjoyed cooking and enjoys making raw dishes. With Raw I'm in the kitchen more. Thankfully, I have a life that enables me to be able to do that. I still don't like it tho...and procrastinate til I"m REALLY hungry.
I will say I don't miss cleaning pots and pans and ALL the dishes. Clean up is definately easier.
Well Buckley, glad you had the epiphany! I actually made a few raw meals this week adn enjoyed the process. Part of it is that need for quick and fast in our society. If I just relax and not worry about the laundry, the messy living room, the bathroom that needs cleaned, the errands to run.....(you get the pic?) then I enjoy uncooking.

Haha maybe I'm the weird one then. I used to LOVE cooking, but now with raw I don't want to prepare the recipes that seem to take so much time (to me) and are complicated. I'd rather just make a simple salad or have an apple or carrot sticks.

I have to give my 2 cents...I think the closest Raw food restaurant is 8 hours away from me. :( I only wish I had a place to go & I have been drooling over internet Raw Food Restaurant Menus. :p Count your blessings that you have access. :p
I have had to learn to prepare foods-which means I have spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I NEVER liked to cook before, but this is different-more relaxing (at times) & I love the no rules aspect...as I do experiment. I refuse to just eat the same thing so I've ventured way out of my "comfort zone" & taken on some challenging recipes. It is fun to make a new recipe & have it turn out great. I have had my share of "throw aways" though.
Enjoy the restaurants...I'll continue to "smuggle" my salad dressing in my purse when I go out to eat & just get a "big salad." :)
