I noticed none of the receipes in Alissa's book use oats. I am craving some grain. What is the story on oats?

Some of us here use oat groats. I soak them overnight then the next morning, drain, rinse, blend with apple, banana, sometimes a little flax seed, dates, raisins, cinnamon, a dash of sea salt and have as oatmeal for breakfast. It's very tasty...my son loves it and my neighbor tried it and loves it too!

I also use oat groats when I make grawnola in the dehydrator and I make oatmeal cookies on the dehydrator out of the oatmeal mixture I mentioned above when/if there's any left over.

I'm glad this was brought up because some of the raw bars I have tried have oats in them and I wasn't sure if they were a special kind- good to know I have to look for oat groats... thanks Rawkinlocs :) And thanks SamIAm for bring this up. Oatmeal is so wonderful- your version sounds great Rawkinlocs- I will be trying this.

Yes oat groats I find in my local Whole Foods store under the brand Arrowhead Mills. They are a living food because I can sprout them pretty easy.

I'm new - just 7 days raw. I know what groats are but I also thought rolled oats are raw. Am I wrong?

So does anyone know is Arrowhead Mills Steelcut oats are raw? I tried to call them, but I got a sex hotline.

I just called this #: 1-800-434-4246, 7am-5pm Mountain Time and got their consumer relations. It works.

Or, you can email them: http://www.arrowheadmills.com/about_us/contact_us.php

I just made the exact recipe rawinlocks mentioned. It was really, really delicious and completely hit the spot.

THe only problem is that I can not eat grains, not even soaked or sprouted ones. I can't believe it. My throat and nose got "itchy" and I was slightly dizzy. Maybe a little more "raw time" and I"ll be able to tolerate them-for now, I can't :(
