Is it possible to prepare dehydrated foods without a dehydrator. In a low-temp oven, for example? Out in the sun?
I don't want to invest in a dehydrator until I've made and tasted some recipes. I'm doing the classifieds/craigslist thing in search of a used model.
Until then, is there anything I can make?

It will dehydrate whatever you put in but I think it takes a bit longer. I'm going to try the Falafel (sp?) receipe tomorrow. I'll let you know if I'm successful.

Before getting my dehydrator, I tried the oven on low temp several times and it never turned out right...always ended up cooking it. I've never tried the oven light bulb, though, so that may work out better.

I don't know how much is too much to spend for you, but Wal-mart has the one I use for $39.99. It has a temp control on it and it works great.
