I have been mostly lurking on this board for awhile now and I had started to think "These guys are the biggest bunch of a$$kissers ever" It is always Alissa's book this and Alissa's book that and get the book and try the recipes and her plan is best and yada yada yada.

OK then I bought the book (I can't stand to be left out  )

Now I am a believer.

The book is wonderful. It is easy to follow with beautiful photographs and great sounding recipes ( I have pizza bread warming in the dehydrator)

If you are a lurking, cynical, newbie like me then take a deep breath and buy the book. You won't regret it

That took guts to admit.. I never saw others as $$$kissers-but when I was researching RAW last year I knew this was the place for me. I bought the book/dvd combo & it's the best investment I ever made. :p :p

Hope your post helps others. :)

Hope you got the DVD too...It really helps !!!

We just bought the book. What else is on the DVD that isn't in the book, and is it just as worthwhile?

Samuel Wilson LOL :D

You're on a roll today..

Seriously, It has Alissa explaining to 2 ladies the Raw food plan & preparing all sorts of meals @ the sametime. The nice thing for me is is really took the "fear" out of how to actually do Raw. I am coming from a background where everyone in my family can cook up a storm-except for me. I had read a few books, but reading & watching someone acxtually prepare wonderful Raw meals- quickly- I think it is sooooo worth it !!! :) :) :)

Lanasq, I agree with you!

I think it is sooooo worth it !!!
The DVD truly is worth it. I watched it over the weekend and it made me so hungry for fettuccini alfredo I had to run to the market to buy zucchini! I loved watching the expressions on Alissa's two students as they sampled all her creations. It really helps to see how easy it is to put these recipes together.

SamuelWilson:: So Sorry for having bad thoughts about ya'll :p But now I am a believer so please don't hate me for being a cynic. I have admitted the error of my ways and I am even going to get the DVD.

Seriously, I hope I didn't truly offend anyone. I think this is a great board with a wonderful bunch of supportive people. But I know that I am probaly not the only person out there who wondered if people were only saying nice things about Alissa's book because this is her board. The truth is, you don't NEED to have ANY book or special equipment to go raw but Alissa's book IS a big help if you need information, encouragement, or great food ideas.

Oh Dear, I just had a thought. In a week some newbie is going to come along and read this post and think "That WannaBeRaw is such a a$$kisser"

Dear WannaBeRaw,
No worries, I thought your post was funny, not offensive......
Yes, I love Alissa's DVD too. I think it's great for someone new to this lifestyle. Also Alissa has parts from her dvd over at:

http://gliving.tv/shows/

if you want to check it out a little before you buy it. The dvd has way
more recipes though & info; these are some of her more simple ones at gliving.
I have had her dvd for a long time and I still come back to it and play
it for inspiration and share it with raw curious friends/relatives.
I have never regretted purchasing it. Alissa just glows of health in it too.
Now I'm the a$$kisser :D

I have had more than one person email me about someone I consider a good friend complaining that she's such a butt-kisser and it's all about Alissa and blah, blah, blah.

Well, the truth is out. It's not all about Alissa. It's all about us. SHE is the one who created this board for US. SHE is the one doing what it takes to promote the raw food lifestyle. SHE wrote the book and let me tell you, writing books is not as easy as one might thing; getting it out there and getting people to purchase it (for their own good mind you) is not as easy as one might think as well. Yes, she's creating her income from doing work she loves and yanno what? Y'all should be extemely grate-filled. If it wasn't for her, many of you would be wallowing in your illnesses (well, many still are yet, that CAN change) exess weight, etc. There is sooooo much information in her book and dvds. If you've only read her book once, read it again ~ and again. IF you've not purchased it and are here, on this board, you are doing yourself a major dis-service. Her book and dvd's are priceless.

I won't quote what Revell says but I agree w/her.

I want to add another point..I know a lot of people who come to this board where we talk about the recipes in Alissa's book. They haven't even bought the book or DVD. I guess I just don't get that ???

When you come to a site as vast as this one, (& I have been to a lot of sites that are not even close ) please don't ask those of us who have bought the book/dvd to give out the recipes. It's Not legal or moral. There are free recipes posted on the front of this site.

Alissa has spent a lot of time/money creating a site that is so helpful for all of us. I am very grateful to have this site. I cannot emphasize enough how GREAT the BOOK/DVD combo is...& it's a bargain !!!

Do yourself a favor-buy the book& DVD..it will answer a lot of questions. :)

I think posting your opinion was great- who knows how many others were/are feeling the same way?

Personally, although I am a skeptic and don't always agree with what the die-hards on this board say, I have to say that this is by far the best raw food forum out there. The moderators actually care about the content of the site and pay attention to what is posted. You don't see advertising spam by "outsiders" at all, and you can tell that the board moderators actually care about raw foods and not just about the existence of the board.

As far as the a$$ki$$ing, it took me a while to even realize this was "Alissa Cohen's house (probably because I didn't read that sticky for a long time!!), so I didn't realize there was a particular slant until the issue came up a couple of times. That's testimony to the fact that they allow dissenting comments and skeptical questions- (some of which have come from me!) without totally attacking or wiping our comments out of existence. I think these are signs of a truly good and professional board with mature and knowledgeable operators- and a great membership body, too!

Revvell: I hear what you are saying and actually I pretty much agree with you. I don't have a problem with people creating income doing something that they love and believe in. And I get it. This is a forum that Alissa created and I do respect that, but that is also why I was skeptical. It took me some time lurking here and watching people refer to information or recipes in the book that made me take a second look at it, and I am glad I did.

One thing though: While I understand how you feel about people using the forum who have not bought the book or DVD, I think that one of the things that made me want the book is that so much information and guidance is freely given right here on Alissa's own forum. I had the disposable income to purchase the book when I decided I needed it and I can also afford the DVD (I wish now that I had done the combo buy, but oh well) Some people may not believe they can afford it at this time. I would hate to see them discouraged from using the forum because they don't have the book. Especially since Alissa has been generous enough to create this worderful forum open to everyone whether they have purchased her book or not.
I know, I know, I'm such an a$$kisser :D

lanasq: I agree with you completely. No one should expect to get the recipes in Alissa's book for free. If you want those, you should purchase the book.

Do they sell the book in normal Book stores? Like Barnes and Nobles?
Would the DVD be there too?

We just bought the book. What else is on the DVD that isn't in the book, and is it just as worthwhile?

Watching the DVD is what got me interested in Raw. I wouldn't have looked at the book...to me it wasn't in my life path.

I was absolutely mesmerized by the DVD and the presentation that Alyssa did.

You owe it to yourself to get that when you can. It makes it all believeable.

girl 007...
We've watched it 3 times together. My husband was fascinated by the DVD-as It actually showed the "Raw" food lifestyle. He thought the food looked great & is eating it. (he's not 100% -yet) He just adds a few veggie things to my RAW food that I prepare. It opens up others minds... I Don't have kids, but I bet they would be open to the DVD...as well.

DVD rocks !!! :)
