I've been lurking here a while. This is a great board, and I've already gotten lots of great info...thank you!

I've been vegetarian for about 25 years, but have lately been researching because it's not completely working for me anymore. I don't have any huge health issues...at least I fall within "normal" with any dr's tests :D ....but I have felt healthier and less tired and want to feel that way again.

I've read Alissa's book...it's great....but the best is the dvd that came with it. If anyone hasn't gotten this with the book, make sure you order it. I find a lot of questions I had about what the food should look like are answered by watching the dvd.

Anyway....I'm going on my first raw food shopping trip today...and, oh, yeah, I'm buying a food processor.....but just to throw in a few contradictions that I will now wrestle with.....My partner & I own a bar (not the juice kind). The drinking isn't a problem, because I rarely do...it's the moral dilemma I guess....and I'm an artist that is developing multiple chemical sensitivities.....I think I have some research ahead of me :)

MKGodwin,

Hi. About the chemical sensitivities. I was planning on going to Aveda to be a hair stylist and now I am not sure because of the chemicals. Even though their products are all natural and organic, I am not sure about the perms and colors. I am looking into other career options.

I have had the same problem with moral questions regarding my career. I used to be in advertising and now I believe it is impossible to be an art director without having bad morals. Anyway. I am not sure what to do either.

karenisraw,

Actually, I never really thought about the moral dilemma with hair styling...that's one of the places I stay away from when I can because of the chemicals. I'm pretty sure though that if you talk to someone at Aveda, that it might be possible to be a stylist & not use chemicals. One of my daughters works at a spa as a nail tech..they have the option to do only "natural manicures" or to add other services such as acrylics.

As to art director: there are other avenues you could pursue beyond advertising...such as package design...or layout work for a conscientious magazine, etc. I really don't think the doors are closed for you on either profession.

The dilemma I'm seeing is prob similar to that which you had in the ad world...I work the website & do the promotions. How do you promote something you don't believe in? I could leave but I've kinda got a vested interest in the place succeeding....we've already sunk a lot of $$ into it....We'll see.

The art supplies are looking up though. I've ordered a few books from Amazon that show how to make vegetable dyes...I'm hoping that takes care of the sinusy, hangover feel I get after painting. We'll see!

Thank you for responding!
