Hello my name is Teddy,

My daughter is a raw vegan and I have listened to her talk about it for months and I have seen some positive changes in her. I was very suspicious about the diet at first but now it's rubbing off on me. I found this forum on a whim and thought that I would join for fun. Looking forward to chatting.

Hi Teddy! Welcome. This is an interesting forum with supportive members. I've definitely learned a lot by reading the posts and by journaling (I am on the second month of 100% raw, hoping to reverse fibromyalgia. I journal daily, a big help in the process.) I'm 38 and am trying to inspire my mother to make some diet changes to help with her health issues, so your mother/daughter situation gives me hope! How old is your daughter? How long raw? Is she on this forum as well? My best advice so far: Enjoy your food and have fun with the process!

Hello Melissa,

Thank you for the advice. There definitely is hope because I am a stubborn man.

My daughter is a college student and is majoring in Sports Fitness. She has always been a health nut. I would say she started learning about raw a year ago. She actually drew my attention to this forum and she is not a part of it yet. College has kept her quite busy, she is a very studious girl.

I have just started including more fruits and vegetable in my diet that I failed to do in my first 54 years of life. But it's never too late. This is very different for me so I will be taking it slow.

Hi again Teddy,
Did you notice my gender confusion? Assumed you were the mother, sorry!

Your daughter sounds bright and focused. Amazing how our kids can teach us and lead us...I have a 20 yr old stepson and 7 yr old son. Increasing fruits and veggies is a wonderful consequence of an interest in raw foods.
It makes a huge difference even if eating all raw is not in the plans. I don't think there's one right way to eat for all people but I do think it's a great shift in awareness when we start asking "Do I really need to cook that vegetable?" or reach for fruit instead of a bagel or cookies etc.

Good luck!

Yes, I noticed that there weren't very many men.

It just goes to show that it's probably true that married men live longer because their wives get them on the healthy road. In my case it was my daughter so I suppose that any female influence is the best thing that can happen to us men.

Hello Fightyorke,

I think that patience with your family and time will reveal to your family that you are doing the right thing. We are all just doing what we can and that's the best we can do but congratulations for being the pioneer in your family.

Hi Teddy-

It is great that you are investigating this lifestyle. Alissa has said before, once you know of the benefits of RAW you always come back to it. It is the best (only) way to live a truly healthy lifestyle. Good luck, and welcome!
