View Full Version : Flax seeds - is this normal??

I bought some flax seeds (sold as linseeds in England) and decided to make the basic flax crackers from Alissa's book. I dutifully soaked the seeds for 4 hours and was left with what I can only describe as flax seed jelly!! Very thick consistency which surprised me.

Anyway, I completed the recipe with the garlic and ginger and the 'batter' is now in the dehydrator.

Is this jelly consistency normal? I've not made any type of dehydrated cracker before and soooo want to get it right.

Thanks.

Yes! It's normal and is one of the beauties of using flaxseeds for crackers!

Thanks RowanC, I thought I'd blown it with the seeds.

Tracy, I called the store to see if I had done somthing wrong w/mine-as they would not rinse out. I probably stood there for 30 minutes trying to rinse. It is normal & the reason why they stick together.
Have fun crackering. :D :D

Thanks lanasq - you made me laugh out loud!!! I was wondering whether to chick them out and start again but I've just checked the dehydrator after approx 5 - 6 hours and the crackers are firming up so I have just turned them.

Also in the dehydrator now - yummy looking macadamia and banana cookies (Alissa's recipe). Can't wait to see how they turn out in the morning.
