Hi

Ok so I am fasting right now and I love avacadoes and they are on sale. I just fed our 14 month old daughter 1/2 of a perfect ripe delectable looking avacado and it got me wondering if I could freeze these little gems since they are on sale right now and I can't eat them!

How about if I made a bunch of gaucamole and froze that? Would that work?

Anyone have any experience with this?

I am assuming that I couldn't freeze the whole avacado, but maybe I can, or maybe the gauc?

What do you guys think?

Thanks for your input.

I know I've seen bags of frozen avocado at Trader Joe's before. I think they removed it from the skin and it was in slices or chunks...can't really remember. But I DO recall seeing such a thing as frozen avo.

Really???

Wow.

Thanks for the response.

It makes it awfully difficult to fast when confronted with such perfectly ripe yummy looking avacadoes that also happen to be on sale this week!

I wonder what the texture would be like after fasting? I suppose I should try it hmmm?
I could always just make gauc with the avacadoes that I had frozen.

Well that is interesting.

Thanks again for your input.

watever u do, just don't do them whole. i did when before we went on vacation and when we came home and i had one, the delicious avocado flavor was gone and it had absorbed the flavors of the freezer (which contains meat as i am the only veg in the family). blech! mayb it won't happen when there's no meat in the freezer. hopefully. the texture was fine and guac would prob be fine

They freeze well out of thier shell. I've frozen guac and it works great. I just put some fresh lemon in it to make sure it stayed green, and it dd.

I had some avacados that were getting too ripe before I could use them so I looked up some things on the net. Make sure to put either lemon or lime juice in & place in a freezer bag & "squish" all the air out. It's the air that oxidizes & turns the avocado brown. I did this the other day & they look great. :p

I did read that someone did it w/out using lemon/lime juice-just the bag trick...but I did not want to risk losing the color/flavor.
good luck...
