View Full Version : Am I still a Raw Foodie if......

I take birth control pills. I have gotten some responses from another thread and everyone is super against it. However, I have made my decision and I am wondering should I even bother with the raw food if I take them?
Keep in mind, I am not asking for other methods of birth control. I am wondering if anyone out there is totally raw except for their form of birth control or a prescription medication.
I am feeling really discouraged, but it is important for me not to get pregnant any time soon. I need a few reliable methods.
Should I even bother trying to detox/go raw? I've been going back and forth. I'm having a hard time sticking to it. I know it's what I want to do, and I'm going to try again. (if at first you don't succeed :)
It's just that I've heard some negative comments about it (birth control pills) and going raw. I don't want to seem like a hypocrite. I also want to reap the benefits of raw as well. Will I still see benefits?
Comments, thoughts, encouragement, GREATLY APPRECIATED!

PasRenee,
I don't think you taking BC pills would make you any less raw than someone who eats all raw but still takes thyroid medication or any other medication until their doctor weans them off!
Of course there are definite downsides to putting the hormones of BC pills into your body, but that should definitely NOT stop you from EATING the best foods in the world...raw foods!
So, don't allow anyone to dictate such a personal area of your life to you and discourage you from sticking with eating raw! You have to make such personal choices/decisions for yourself and perhaps one day the situation will change and you will no longer desire that particular method...but until then, do what you need to do and STAY RAW! :)
P.S...I believe you will still see benefits from eating raw.

I agree with what Rawk said 100%...it's such a personal decision and I think there are many that are raw, but take certain medications that we don't know about.
Don't let taking BC stop you from doing raw!
Asking questions and seeking out answers on forums like this is what is going to get you to your goal with raw!
Keep it up, you're doing great! :)

You may want to research papaya seeds- i heard that in more natural times, they were used as a daily birth control supplement.
I have never tested it so i dont know but i heard the ancient Hawaiians used to dry thema nd grind them to use as pepper- as they are spicy- theyre also really good for digestion...
or maybe there are other natural means and methods- have you tried using the ovulation chart to get to know which times you are fertile and to be more careful during those times... its hard but some people swear by it...
wish you luck- birth control pills suck- they would mess my moods up so much
theres got to be an alternative
or why cant the men take something to tweak their testosterone/semen potency instead?
well, i did hear that marijuana and alcohol help make a lower sperm count but i dont see much evidence of that...

Rawkinlocs, as always, responded perfectly!
Do what is right for you! You do not answer to anyone and do not need to accept anybody's judgement. We are all just doing what we think to be best for us and our unique life experience at any given moment. And that is all we CAN do! :)
Like Rawkie said, of course you will still reap amazing benefits from eating living nutrient rich foods! And along the way, many new thoughts and visions will open to you. So no worries.
My warmest wishes to you on your raw journey ahead. I do believe persistence will get you there. As Alissa says " its about persistence, not perfection"

PLEASE eat raw and be as healthy as possible, while still taking the medication of your choice.
I know tons of raw foodists, who still take aspirin, medication, high blood presure meds, arthritis meds, suppliments, and/or drink coffee each day.
Even if you are striving for 100% raw, and you take birth control pills, I'd say you are 100% raw.
Please, don't let one thing, or even 10 things stop you from doing your very best on this life path, you will be glad you did this, and ate raw, or as much raw as you wish, there is no thing that can make you feel better than raw food.
Now, if you wish to know a natural form of birth control, that I use and teach, it is simply what I have done and many others.
You speak to your higher cosciousness, and make sure that YOU, any unborn children, and YOUR higher conscious are all on the same page, and that AT THIS TIME, you wish to be childfree.
But, KNOW THIS, I wanted tons of children, I had my first (and only) at age 15, I was married, and all.
But, life was busy, I was working, traveling a professional dancer, I was building a castle to be our home, there wasn't a perfect time, it just kept getting away from us, finally when my son was 21, and I divorced my husband, I didn't find another man I wanted to live with and have kids with, oh, I dated plenty, and married a couple, but none good enough to be a daddy to my kids, so I never had any more, now I am in my 50's could still have kids, but there is NO way, I'd do that now, don't wanna' change them diapers, be up all night, run around after kids all day, I've got 6 granddaughters, so I have plenty.
BUT, time goes by fast, in a blink of an eye, so, don't wait forever, decide today, what year you will have kids and then do it. Even if you are alone, don't wait, it is important to have a life plan, and kids should be part of it,
now, with that said, I also believe that everything happens exactly perfectly in the Universe, so I wasn't supposed to have a dozen kids, but I sure thought I wanted them when I was younger. LOL
Life is a blast, live life with passion, come to the end of your life all used up and dusty, smiling and waving to everyone you knew.
there is NO thing better than to live the life of YOUR dreams, each and every day, each and every second, each and every breath, NOW is THAT time, there is NO tomorrow.
Blessings, be upon thee,

I think birth control pills are a gray area. It's like... if i'm putting a packet of aspertame in my smoothie every morning, i am not 100% raw... and if you do some research about your birth control pills, i would betcha there is a lot more in those little colorful pills than just hormones--a LOT more. Raw will also only have so much of a benefit, because birth control pills affect much more than just our ovaries, specifically interfering with nutrient absorbtion. Also in much of my reading about raw, a lot of the most serious detoxing is geared towards women coming off of birth control pills. Especially with the intestines and candida problems.
In my opinion, no, birth control pills do not make you 100% raw.. that does not however mean that you can't experience the amazing benefits of this diet. 100% raw isn't the only way to be. Your body will continually be detoxing from the ingredients in the pills though. Raw would probably help your body stay on track and keep more of a degree of balance.

I think if the only thing you eat that is not raw is your bc then you are doing a lot better than many others.
I recently (about one month ago) stopped taking mine, but that was mostly becuase they were doing a lot of weird stuff to my body. I feel so much better now :) That being said, if they hadn't messed me up (noticably that is, I'm sure they do weird stuff to you even if you don't notice it) I wouldn't have stopped taking them yet as I feel the same way as you do about having kids (not right now....).

PasRenee, I think you are definitely still a raw foodist if you eat raw food only you take birth control pills. Please don't let anyone make you feel any differently for making this decision! I think if you need the birth control pills you should take them without any guilt, because an unwanted pregnancy could do more damage to your emotional well-being. If you eat raw foods you will be able to minimize any damage they might do and can hopefully detox any possible harmful effects, so don't take an "all or nothing" approach with raw. Take the pills you feel you can't keep away from and do everything else you can to live your raw lifestyle! And proudly call yourself a raw foodist.

Rawkinlocs,
I agree with your post! I do not personally take b.c. pills, but I also believe that taking them would not make you any less raw!
PasRenee - don't sweat it. I know you are going to get all sorts of input and opinions, both good and bad, but the bottom line is that you are benefitting SO tremendously from a raw diet!!! You go girl!!!

As far as 100% raw and being on BC pill, what harm would that be to eat raw??? I would have to say, you would be doing your body greater justice to be eating 100% in comparison to if you were not raw and taking the pill, at least you wouldn't be storing all of the toxins and draining your enzyme pool at the same time. Possible scenario not eating raw- you could find your health down hill when you are finally ready to have children.
By eating the best you can now, regardless of taking or not taking BC, spiritually, I believe you will feel much more successful. You will have a good base for eating and teaching your children the benefits of raw. Again...only a thought...

I'd say you're still raw! As others have said, just do what you are guided to do and what is right for you...
Having said this, I'll tell you a little thing that might make you laugh (that is my intent here)...I take Armour Thyroid...It's the type I need and uh, it comes from the pig. I felt badly about it for a long time, but right now, I need this medication (I am open to this changing, of course).
