View Full Version : Durian (What now)
OK my durian has been in the icebox defrosting for 2 days now so it's probly ready to cut. problem is, I have no idea how to go about doing that without making a mess of it. How is the best way to get the "meat" out of it?
:o Shame on my for not getting Alissa"s DVD. Seems like I remember someone mentioning that there was a Durian demonstration on it.

I've never had one or even seen one in person......found this on the internet. Hope it helps. I didn't have a chance to read it.
:) Thanks Kristi,
The article said to let the durian open itself. HaHa! I can just see my family holding their noses and glaring at me.

Have you eaten it yet?
I've never had one.. I saw one in the Chinese Supermarket the other week but there were none there this week, I loved that site, what a brilliant writer :D
Have you had durian before Kirk?
Let us know what you think of it..
Thunderdancer,
Yep, I've eaten Durian once before but it was already de-skined and the "meat" was packaged all by itself. This is the first time I've encountered the whole fruit.
The taste and smell of a durian (for a first-timer) is quiet a shock but I grew to love it very fast. My family, on the other hand, told me to take my durian to the garage and eat it. :)......kirk

Hi Kirk,
You use your fingers. No need to use a knife.
You need to be careful not to let the spikes cut you, but you find a seam (hint: its not the ones that look like a seem, but a line that continues from top to bottom) this will be what takes time and practice
locating 'seams'.
Once you do, you just poke your finger through it and run it along the seam and whala! Its open!
Go forth my friend, dont be scared, you can master the durian, i have faith, take control....
Thanks Alissa,
Sounds simple enough. I'll give it a try.
