Hi

Was wondering if you soak almonds/ nuts in the fridge overnight or out on the counter? How many hours do u soak?Do u need to soak in a open container to let air in or do u soak in a lidded jar? Do you need to rince the water like u do when u spout legumes through out the day? Also do u discard the water u soak the nuts in and rince before u use the nuts? I would like to make almond milk and almond yogurt but I am unsure how to presoak. Sorry if these questions seem silly.

Thanks
Miette

Rule #1 in raw foodism is there are no rules.

We all have different ways of doing things. I would suggest you soak them in any container you have in the refrigerator overnight or at least 8 hours. You can actually use ziploc baggies if you want. You do not have to rinse the almonds (which would be quite inconvenient since you are doing them overnight, would hate to think someone has to set their alarm to get up and rinse almonds).

When the almonds are through soaking, you pour out the water they soaked in and rinse them well under the faucet. You then add the rinsed almonds to your blender and add 4 cups of water (3 if you want a creamier mylk). You blend until all is well blended. Then you strain through a cheese cloth or paint strainer bag (you can use any kitchen strainer if that is all you have). Also, the straining step is not required, but I like to have silky smooth mylk with out any silt.

Samuel,

Thank you so much. The ziplock method sounds so easy. I can't wait to try it. Im so glad it's not as difficult as I was imagining.
