i cant lose weight eating fruit.... well i can i guess... when its compared to eating refined sugar... cookies..cakes...stuff like that ect... but to some point your bf is correct! fruit keeps the extra layer of fat on me...
so i guess it all depends on the person... everyone is different! some ppl react to raw fruit and lose a tone of weight.. and become " emicated "(sorry forget the spelling :o ) as you said .. and in some ppl.. it keeps the extra layer of fat on them... LIKE ME! lol...even tho i work out at the gym every single day!
i become my leanest when i include a whey protien powder ( not raw.. i know... not even vegan... :( ) and include some lean non medicated chicken at night....when i include both those things in my diet.. including lots of fruit... i tend to go really nice a lean... but without them... i get extra fat all over!!!!!... im still trying to figure out a way to be all raw and nice and lean!... but so far.. the only way id be able to do that.. is to be eating vegies and nothing but vegies ALL day... which i cant do! nuts also make me gain weight like crazy... and i tried hemp protien powder for about 3 months and i gained almost 15 pounds... and it wasnt lean muscle mass lol!! :(

Well, it's good to hear of someone who's trying to treat their thyroid naturally and with 8-1-1.

I have thyroid disease and I don't use medication. I'm also trying to follow the 8-1-1.
I don't lose or gain weight with the program (high fruit). And I've tried to stop focusing on this whole obsession with weight loss and focus more on health and being healthy. I've noticed a great improvement in my skin but also a great increase in my energy and stamina. Anyone with a thyroid disease will know what a bonus that is!!.

There's a lot of misinformation about fruit and carbs. I think Graham does a great job answering those phobias on his FAQ at his website.

Hi fightyorke,

You can find the FAQ for Dr. Doug Graham at:

http://www.vegsource.com/talk/raw/index.html

Then look on the right upper corner and you'll see:

"RAW FOODS FAQ".

I found it extremely hard to lose weight (yes I have thyroid disease). I did weight watchers and another diet through our church. But when I went high raw (lots of fruits), the weight came off faster for me - but even with eating high raw, I have to keep the amount of calories down if I want to lose weight.

Well, I did Atkins for 3 1/2 years and lost weight and I didn't feel unhealthy. I only started to get fibro symptoms and bad acne when I slipped and started eating carby bread, sweets, etc. I DO see a huge difference in the sugar in raw fruits and the processed refined sugar in bread, pasta, cakes, and cookies. BIG difference. I can eat fruit all day long and my face is clear.

I don't like that Atkins gets such a bad wrap when the majority of food I ate was lean meats, vegi's and fruit. I understand how a vegan wouldn't think Atkins was healthy, but there are aspects of it that are way healthier than SAD. I ate tons of vegi's and no junk food. You just aren't supposed to have fruit on induction (which is only 2 weeks, but people choose to do it longer).

As for going from Atkins to Raw and gaining, I don't agree with that either. I had not lost any weight for about 1 1/2 years (I lost the most in the first year of Atkins) and have lost 23 pounds since going raw on Nov. 1st. I've never lost that fast, to me it tells me that this is the right thing for my body. I don't, however, condemn Atkins. It saved me from the disgusting SAD lifestyle and forced me to evaluate what was healthy for my body and what was not.

Hi fightyorke,

The calorie intake will be different for everyone, depending on what foods you eat and what your metabolism is like.

For me, when I did weight watchers, I had to stay under 1,000 calories to lose 1 pound a week. When I went up to 1,200, I didn't lose, I stayed the same. Yet others at their 1,200 or 1,400 and lost 10 pounds in one week I thought that was impossible!!!! One week I lost 4.5 pounds - the most ever, but I ate on the average 450 calories a day.

Now when I switched to eating mostly raw, I could eat more quantity of foods (took more foods to make up the calories) but found, again I had to stay under 1,000 calories to lose weight.

When I did the Master Cleanse, it called for 6 - 12 ten ounce glasses of the lemonade. I did the 6, plus I used a little less of the maple syrup, and I lost 1 pound a day.

You just have to experiment and see what it takes.

So much plays in losing weight too. Nora ate raw 5 months before she lost her first pound!!!!! Sometimes your body is do toxic, that it may take a lot of repair work before you see the lose in weight. Also, Nora said she thinks food combination played a role in why she wasn't losing weight. You can read her testimony at: http://www.rawschool.com/

I basically don't count calories anymore. Sometimes I will fill in what I eat on fitday.com and there it does calculate my calorie intake, but I use it to see how close I'm at 80/10/10, as that is my goal.

Hi fightyorke,

Did you just recently start the herbs for your thyroid? I'm sure with the herbs and eating raw, it won't be long before you'll start to see a difference. If your bf sees it already, I'm sure it's not going to be long until you do too :)

Hi fightyorke,

A friend of mine, with thyroid disease, didn't have a period for 4 years and the hair on her legs quit growing. Once corrected, her periods started again and the hair on her legs started growing again. I told her I was sorry that the hair on her legs grew back, but she said she wasn't sorry at all because now it means she's better. Although she's not all raw, she has cut out many of the bad food groups. Even with all I went through being hypo, my period was never affected. Came like clockwork every month except when I was pregnant and/or nursing, and just recently; menopausal.

so when one loses their period... can this mean their thyriod is not functioning properly???
i was on the pill for about 2 years almost... went off it exactly one year ago... and since the day i went off it.. i havent seen a hint of even having a period....i started raw a year ago to.. almost 95% to 99% everyday... so i havent touched meat in a year! some say.. its because of that...or because im raw. im not sure if im ovulating.. but i highly doubt it.. cuz i experience no signs of mesterating!
sometimes i think the pill really ruined alot in my entire system...ruined my metabolism...ect ect :(
ive also heard lots of ppl who go off the pill dont get a period for years after.....
i am taking maca to help balance my hormones and am praying to maybe someday soon have a period! lol
sorry for going soo off topic.... :o

Hi Pink Berry,

Birth Control pills have 4 times the amount of estrogen than HRT  So, yes, I bet your hormones are messed up.

"Estrogen dominance -- an excess of estrogen in relation to progesterone-- inhibits thyroid function and can result from taking birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, or exposure to environmental estrogens. Also, a poorly functioning liver, exhausted adrenal glands, insulin resistance, compromised digestion and candida can also contribute to estrogen dominance."

Not having your period could be a symptom of many things, one being thyroid disorder but it could also be many other things. Some people who have been 100% raw for a long time eventually do lose or have extremely light periods, or those who are extremely underweight, over exercise, lose their periods too.

Since you're eating almost all raw, in time your hormones will eventually normalize.

If you ever see a doctor, you could always have your thyroid tested, but again with the raw diet, if you have thyroid problems, your diet allow your body to repair it too. Had I known about the raw diet, before I got as sick as I did, I would have done the raw route in repairing my thyroid. But I was EXTREMELY sick and could barely walk and couldn't take care of myself and got thyroid treatment before I knew about eating raw. So I'm staying on my meds so that I can "live". My meds have been cut back and one day I hope to be off of them.
