Alissa says that raw plant fat acts differently in our bodies than cooked plant fat. It makes sense to me but I was wondering is there any scientific evidence out ther to back it up? I would love to read where she and other raw foodists got this information.

Thanks

My raw vegan doctor produced a cd on his lecture called "should you cook your food". You can download and listen to it on the internet. He said if there are doubters that are giving you trouble about being raw, this should take care of it. It is a scientifically based cd. There is a testimonial there on his website from a guy that recovered from diabetes and a heart attack by going raw. It talks about fats and what happens when you cook them.

Download it and listen to the lecture it for free here: http://www.ecopolitan.com/cook

His website is www.ecopolitan.com

Search for "Dr.T". if you want more info on him.

I've never seen scientific evidence for that claim, either. However, our own bodies are the best laboratories! I have eaten a raw food diet that is higher in fat than is conventionally recommended and I've lost 25 lbs. since January 1st. - more than I've ever lost in such a short time, and without any real effort to lose that much. (I was hoping for a couple of pounds a week, really). Feel free to look at my blog and you'll be amazed at the fat I've consumed some days.

A disadvantage to a high fat diet is that you can eat a lot of calories with a limited number of foods if you're not careful. I want to eat a greater variety of foods and eat more food in general, so I plan to lower my fat content in February to experiment. (Since I'm trying to lose weight and am new to raw, calorie tracking is important to me, but I know that for many raw foodists calories become unimportant).

ThanksIt's in a number of books. If I remember correctly, it's in Rawsome! and also Tonya Zavasta's books. I'm wondering, though, faith4u, if you've experienced this yet yourself. For me, like DrPr, doing it is the best test.

DrPr - ya know, the "don't worry about counting calories" approach that Alissa espouses is exactly for those who want to lose weight. You've lost 25 pounds in almost as many days!!! Amazing by and "normal" standard. Not that unusual in the raw world -- why mess with success? You sure don't want to lose at a faster rate than that. How 'bout going for more variety but still eating whatever "fats" your body is saying it needs?

There's a great (old) post by Alissa that addresses this. If I have time before I jet out to the farmers' market, I'll see if I can find it and post it.

Cheers!

Thanks, RawTruth. The trouble I have is that I get full quickly and find I'm not even eating 1,000 calories some days without forcing myself a bit. People talk about worrying about eating too much, but I'm not eating enough. Maybe the higher fat foods are filling me before I get all my calories on some days (I can't wrap my mind around that one, but hey). Or maybe I don't have the appetite to eat the same types of foods everyday so I need a greater variety, which I can use to replace some of the higher fat foods I'm eating so I don't get full too quicly. If I experiment, I'm sure I'll find something that works. :)

RawTruth posted the info fro Alissa regarding fat. I sure hope everyone gets a chance to read it!

I am curious to know what is enough? When people say I am not getting enough calories--how do they know this? What is this based on? Please tell me!
Thanks!:)

So you're saying that if a week goes by and I'm satisfied with the foods I eat, but it turns out that I've only eaten an average of 900 calories a day, that's all right? Because that's what would happen, I assure you.

I'll answer for Carmel -- cuz I know what she'd say (trust me) --

Stop counting calories!!!

DrPr, I also used to worry about not getting enough calories. Then I started doing research on water fasting and eventually it sank in that if a person has more than 10% body fat they will not starve even if they eat nothing at all. So whatever you eat, it is all right. Whether it is one peice of fruit or a whole raw pie, there is no such thing as too few calories until reaching 10% body fat for males. It's a little higher for females.

Not that you now need to start measuring body fat. Just wanted to reasure you that whatever you feel like eating, or not eating, you will not starve. Your body will use stored fat and you will lose weight. Yea!!!!

Hope this helps,
Teri S

RawTruth, that is so what I would say.And you used pretty letters---awww!

I just posted in another thread that it all comes down to getting out of your head and into the true experience of your body. Stop analyzing and just do it! Give yourself the gift of having the experience.

Let go.
