This really hit me this morning when I received this e-mail. How much food in the U.S. is being genetically engineered without our knowing it? This makes me mad because we are not given a choice they are just doing it. Oh well I need to get back to growing my own stuff anyway. :)

Hi Curtis,
I've been watching the "GM corn" articles and reports. I know a lady who was arrested for protesting at a store that was selling GM foods. The title in the paper said: ALABAMA GRANDMOTHERS ARRESTED FOR CAMPAIGNING AGAINST GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOOS". You can read all about it at:

Gerry is a very sweet lady. I was shocked when I first heard she was arrested. She is one that you would have never expected this from. In her website you can read her testimony too. She almost died of a tumor in her abodomin area. She went to health institutes and did 3 major water fasts and it took her 3 years to overcome her tumor. She is now 100% raw.

Thank you Helen,
I haven't been following this much, is this just the start? Are they going to engineer everything without our know it?

Hi Curtis,
I've been aware of this for the past couple of years. Here's another link you'll be interested in. There are currently more than four dozen genetically engineered foods and crops being grown or sold in the US. These foods and crops are widely dispersed into the food chain and the environment. Over 70 million acres of GE crops are presently under cultivation in the US:
Most supermarket processed food items now "test positive" for the presence of GE ingredients. In addition several dozen more GE crops are in the final stages of development and will soon be released into the environment and sold in the marketplace. According to the biotechnology industry almost 100% of US food and fiber will be genetically engineered within 5-10 years. The "hidden menu" of these unlabeled genetically engineered foods and food ingredients in the US now includes soybeans, soy oil, corn, potatoes, squash, canola oil, cotton seed oil, papaya, tomatoes, and dairy products.

Pretty scary, isn't it!!!!!

When you go into your produce department, check out the produce code.
Those little stickers on fruit and vegetables contain different PLU codes depending on whether the fruit was conventionally grown, organically grown or genetically engineered. The PLU code for conventionally grown fruit consists of four numbers, organically grown fruit five numbers prefaced by the number 9, and GM fruit five numbers prefaced by the number 8.
Conventionally grown PLU: 1022
Organically grown PLU: 91022
Genetically modified PLU: 81022

Thank you Helen for all this information. I would encourage everyone here to read this I found at the site Helen mentioned.

It simple amazes me without proper research this food is in our stores here in the U.S. while in Europe they are against it.
If there is any more reason to grow your own stuff this is it.

Hi fightyorke,
Yes - just look at the produce code and you can tell which produce are conventional, gm or orangic. See my post above.

From my recent research it looks like for now not eating prepackaged food, buying organic when you can and growing your own food are the safety precautions one can take.

Hey Curtis,
Boy, do you have that right!!!!!
Did you see "the movie" on the website? If not, be sure to check it out. It's done in cartoon characters - easily keeps the attention of those that may not have any interest in GE foods.
