View Full Version : Loss of Appetite

I'm bumping and editing this post to see if anyone has any thoughts on this. I am really curious as to what might be going on.
I've been 95% raw for about a month (okay, I"m into the third day of 100%)
I have no appetite during the day. I am not hungry. Food is not interesting to me at all. I'll have a smoothie, snack on some nuts and not eat all day. For supper I'll have some zuch. pasta or eggplant. That's it. Should I be worried about this? Or am I carrying over some "cooked diet" mentality. Maybe my body is busy cleansing?
Any thoughts would be helpful! I've searched and can't find anything on this.
Thanks In Advance

I feel the same but because I think that I am underweight (or at least can not loose any more) I eat anyway. I would be just as happy having a small snack than a meal all day but in the evening I still want to eat but I know that is habit not hunger. I am not hungry.

I think it's normal to have an initial cleansing period when you don't want to eat because your body is busy cleaning. Your body will let you know when it needs fuel. I would only worry about this if you are already underweight or have a history of eating disorders.

I too do not have much of an appetite, but I feel nourished. I guess I feel like I simply don't need as much food, now that I am getting the right foods, maybe my body isn't working so hard to clean out the mess that I used to put in my body.
K :p :p

Well, the day usually starts with me forcing some banana into myself, with some water (around 5:30am). That's because I workout (to an aerobics tape - Slim in Six) every morning, except Sundays. I noticed early on, if I don't eat before the workout, I get VERY light headed and dizzy during the workout. After I exercise I get cleaned up and make a fruit smoothie (no greens) with almond milk. That holds me over well until lunch time. Lately I've noticed I'm hungry at lunch time, but whatever I end up making I throw away because I just don't want it, it doesn't taste good, my body says NO. So many times this past week I've thrown out my lunch. A couple of days ago it was some guacamole I was eating with flax crackers (and I used to LOVE my guacamole). Today it was Alissa's fettucine alfredo. And I LOVED that the first time I made it. Today, NOPE, ate a few TINY bites, and tossed it in the trash. I ended up juicing 8 oranges and that was my lunch today(and it was yummy!). For dinner lately I've been making another smoothie, but this time with spinach in it, and no almond milk, just water (and banana and mango and agave). But that's it...besides the tons of water I drink all day. And I've been wondering WHY? I should be starving, and scarfing down food, especially with working out everyday. Where has my appetite gone, and why don't I want to eat anything but FRUIT? I don't know, but for now, I'm just doing what my body says.... :)

Geez, girl, just eat what you want. Stop worrying!! As long as you're healthy, you're probably fine. You'll probably be ravenous soon.
Third day really raw -- great! Can't wait till you're posting here that it's your 1 year anniversary!!

Mommamia,
Fourth full day raw here (yay!!). In this and my previous attempts at raw, I've noticed I eat a lot less food than when I ate cooked food. I read somewhere on these boards once that since we absorb so much more nutrients when eating raw that that can affect appetite. If you think about it, it makes sense. Our body gets full on much less for a longer period of time because it's fulfilled:) When we eat cooked, it takes so much more food to make us full because it's not as nutritious.
I wouldn't worry, we're both so new at this, I'm sure things will change over time.
Keep the faith!!

THanks so much everyone! I think I still have that diet mentality that if I don't eat my body will go into "starvation mode" but you are right~I"m getting more nutrients...and cleansing. That's hard work.
I'm also glad that I am not the only one w/out an appetite. Sometimes I really do force myself to eat. Last night my husband made me a zuchini pasta w/marinaded onions. It was soooo good. For the first three bites. Then I wanted to quit but ate most of it....
Darkmoon~it's nice to meet you! We are in the same 100% raw time frame. Can we keep in touch?
Thanks again for the support!

The last week or so, I'm finding it hard to eat too. Some days I'm forcing myself to eat. I just haven't had an appetite. I eat because I do go workout and don't want to risk getting lightheaded or not having enough energy.

I get VERY light headed and dizzy during the workout.
Yah happens to me too now, but, it feels awesome, it's like being high.
Is almond milk raw?
And I don't eat as much anymore also. Sometimes get super really hungry, once every few days, then just eat a lot of the same fruit or something, and i'm pretty much set for a long time.

Almond milk~Breeze off the shelves is what i use currently. And it's not raw. However, you can make your own. I believe I saw a post here that says it's really easy to do! It's on my 'to do' list. At this writing, I may have it in a smoothie maybe 2x a week. Technically not ALL raw........yet.

Mommamia,
I haven't had an appetite either but I am overweight and need to lose weight but am afraid to put my body in starvation mode.
Yesterday I worked a 16 hour day catering and all I ate was 2 oranges, 1 apple, 2 kiwis, 3 tbsp hummus and one cucumber. I am afraid if I don't eat then I won't be able to because of my schedule. Maybe it is true about the extra nutrients that changes your appetite.
Hope this helps,
