I went to Ecopolitan (raw vegan restaraunt) today and had the yummiest coconut shake. All it is is the coconut water and the coconut meat of a young coconut blended in a blender. It tastes better than a big glass of creamy cold milk.
Just thought I would share.

 Hey Sheryl....
Speaking of ordering coconuts, anyone know of a good place to get order young coconuts (in the USA)?
I know "Melissa's" website sells them, but they want $26 for 3 coconuts on there!!!
I really want to find some good young coconut!

Thank you everyone for responses. Angelina, yes I feel lucky. Ecopolitan is just up the street. They have happy hour (raw juices and smoothis) from 4-6 daily where drinks are half price.
thanks

Rawredbone,
I would ask them about it before you order. It is posted on the bottom of the chalkboard in the juice bar. I keep missing happy hour times, but I noticed that it talked about it on the board.

It does taste good, but it's a tremendous amount of work for such a tiny bit of food. I was amazed at how little coconut meat is in the young coconuts.
It's best if someone else makes it!

I went to my local natural food market and asked them to order me a case. They were more then happy to do it for me! And...they are only $2.29 a peice! So I say ask and see if you can't get them from your local food stare. It sure doesn't hurt to ask! :o

Why not try an Asian store? I buy them for .99 each ( which is very cheap in Minnesota) I also buy them by the case for 7.50-8.00( which is not bad at all)

If you are near an Asian market, they usually sell them for very cheap! Less than $1 each. Where I live, I can buy a case of 9 young coconuts for about $8.
But you need to be careful not to have a lot of these. Most young coconuts sold are sprayed with chemicals. Believe it or not, it does seep into the coconut. Unfortunately, truly organic thai coconuts cost a fortune!
Hope this helps!

How long do these coconuts last before they go bad. I've bought them and have noticed if I keep them too long, sometimes I see mold at the top of the coconut.

I'm a big fan of young coconut. I'm sure that the ones I get are probably sprayed and I don't know what that can do to us. I think that blending the meat and juice makes a drink that is filling and persuasive to SADs....witness my spouse whose idea of a vegetable is french fries and who thought he hated coconut is now converting. I get mine at the Asian market for 99 cents. Right now I am thrilled with them as for 99 cents we get filled up for awhile and feel good as well as feeling like we got a real treat! Just take your aggression out on that coconut and it won't be alot of work!

I love young coconuts!! And wow, that's a LOT for a coconut. Here at our farmer's market for 9 coconuts it's 11.50 or something!
