...and I hated it. :( It smelled funny, the milk/water wasn't very good, and the flesh was even worse. I really expected to like it, so I bought two...so does anyone know of a recipe I can put either the flesh or milk in so the taste is masked and it doesn't go to waste? :o

Preferably something not in Alissa's book, as it's still en route.

And after all that work of getting it opened... :o

maybe it went bad? all young coconuts are different, so sometimes you don't get so lucky....but, don't give up on em! you could try mixing the milk and flesh up in a smoothie-that's what i usually do.

I also tried to eat a coconut. We only have the brown ones here I could not find any young green ones. Well when my husband finally got it open everything inside tasted like turpentine smells. HORRIBLE! Needless to say I am sure it was bad because as a kid I remember eating fresh brown coconuts and they tasted good. Next time I buy a coconut I am going to get a young one and hopefully it will be good ;)

Throw the milk and meat into the blender with a large banana or two small, one or two dates depending on your taste and some cinnamon, drink ---or pour into an ice cube tray and throw a couple into your daily fruit smoothies (leave off the cinnamon) to make them cooler and creamier.
Blend it up to make a base a throw fruits in until you can't taste it anymore.

I had the same experience with my first young coconuts recently. I bought two, since I'd been wanting them for so long, and both were AWFUL. Since then, I've been trying to figure out where to get GOOD ones...besides melissa's.com, who want $26 for 3 coconuts!!!

Kayla,

You are not alone. I've tried young coconuts many times...hoping that each time would be better than the last and it was the same.

But don't be discouraged...we all have things we don't like that it seems everybody else does!

When I first went raw, there were several things that it seemed every raw fooder just LOVED...

Avocados - used to hate 'em, but now I like them but don't necessarily love them

Cilantro - hate it

Mushrooms - hate 'em

and young coconuts - hate 'em

But who knows what may happen later on down the line!

Kayla,
When I first saw the title to your post I remembered back to my first raw coconut, only about 4 months ago actually, and I LOVED IT!! So I was sad to see your bad taste with it.

I think it could be either you just got a bad one. Maybe you might want to open the 2nd one and try it, or just really don't like the taste.

Funny, I HATE THE TASTE OF CARROTS!!! I hate them so much I can't stand the smell on my hands after I peal them for my family. But I do love carrot/ apple juice!! Most people love carrots, I can't understand why ;)

Amazing, and wonderful, how everyone's taste are so different!!

Jamie :)
