Good Mood Food

Oooooh, my hubby took me to the Huntington Beach, CA restaurant Good Mood food today (it's our anniversary) :) . This was my first time in a raw restaurant and the first time I could order what I wanted in a restaurant and not have to "alter" it since being raw (7 months and counting). It was fantastic....I ordered as much as I could fit in my belly! :D I wanted to order one of everything, but didn't get the thumbs up on that request!

I had: Nutburger with "cornbread" (flaxseed and ground corn in BIG crackers), with avocado, almond mayo, tomato, lettuce and pickles (raw dill) - the burger was HUGE....about 1" tall!

Wild rice risotto with curry sauce, raisins and pistacios

"Potato" salad (squares of zucchini, corn, peas in almond mayo with some spices)

Espresso chocolate cream cake (sort of a raw german choc. cake)

Raw chocolate turtles

The restaurant is a 1.5 hour drive on a Sunday with no traffic, so it's too far to visit often....but I can't wait to go again! :D

I used to live one mile from Good Mood Food (now live in N.C.) and I was so fortunate to be able to ride my bike over almost every day. Ursula's resturant was essential to my first month raw success. I really like their salads and burrito (they use soaked black rice). The pizza is really good too. O.k....its all good!
I am glad you were able to go there and enjoy your anniversary.

If you're willing to go to GMF Cafe, I urge you to go to Au Lac in Fountain Valley. It's exactly the same distance. It's a fantastic, amazing place -- the raw food is completely unique and is much more raw than GMF. I've eaten at eight raw restaurants in Southern California, and Au Lac is #1 in my book. It's tops not just with me -- at various times when I've been there, there's also been the owners of three other raw places, every major raw chef in So Cal, Paul Nison, David Wolfe, Lou Corona, our own AC of course, and others.

Yeah, I am so happy for you that you got to go to a raw restaurant. It is quite the experience isn't it?

I went to the Good Mood Cafe last week and also went twice to Au Lac with Alissa, RawTruth and others. I am with RawTruth! You have got to experience Au Lac. It will blow you away. Chef Ito's chocolate ecstacy pie is haunting my dreams....yummy. His food is art and the love he puts in it is so apparent.

OK, no fair you guys! You are making me hungry and very depressed! There's not much in the way of raw gourmet out here in south Texas. I wish I could talk my husband into moving to California, but I don't think it's going to happen.

I'm with RawTruth & SweetGoddess on this one. I, like RawTruth, have been to all the Raw restaurants in So. Calif., and Au Lac is head 'n shoulders above all the others put together. It's not just the food; it's the ENERGY. I was just there Friday nite, and I already CAN'T WAIT to go back!!! It's certainly worth the drive from L.A.
It's a very, very, very special place. :) :) :)

"Good-mood food" for me is fruit and lots of it; especially those which have short seasonal availability such as luscious FIGS! I am in heaven when I have baskets of figs surrounding me :)

I just love Good Mood Food cafe - I live not to far away and it is such a pleasure for me to drive over after work have a wonder raw dinner and just enjoy myself completely.

I've really got to get to AuLac - I'm not sure why I'm resistant to going there. Might be that I don't want to go alone. Anyone in S.Cal want to join me? ;)

Thanks, everyone, for your congrats! We went to Good Mood cafe instead of Au Lac because my hubby isn't raw and I left it up to him which place he wanted to go to. He's not really adventurous, so he chose the one that had what seemed to him more "normal" food. He did enjoy it (although he had a baked sprouted wheat bagel sandwich), and tried many of my dishes which impressed him. He's ready to try something else :) Maybe next time I can talk him into Au Lac!

Good Mood Food does have a website and you can order online, but I didn't notice cakes, just crackers, etc. Perhaps you have to call to get the other items because they rotate what they have available.

For those of you that don't have any raw restaurants in your area, don't be too jealous....with a busy family life and about 70 miles between me and this restaurant (1/2 of it mountain roads and ALL of it congested most of the time), they're as good as in another state!

I'm *so* looking forward to going to Karen's in Chicago when I go for my hair appointment in Feb. I can't tell you how excited I was to see that it's located right around the corner from the salon! I've already drooled at the website.

Not at Good Mood Food Cafe. While I like some things there and adore Ursula and respect her knowledge about nutrition (I've taken a class from her and known her for several years now), she does not use raw nuts in her creations including the "cakes", so I go other more-raw places more often. I'd LOVE for you to meet us on Wednesday, though, if you don't mind it being at Au Lac!!! Feel free to call me, email me, PM me, or send smoke signals if you wish. :p

Iwas in San Diego this last weekend and we went to Cilantro Live in Chula Vista it was great. We took our whole famly brother, sister Uncle and aunt. It was a first for all of us. We all enjoyed it. I had the sampler plate and and my DH had the burrito he thought it was great. We went back that night just my DH, sister and I.

I cannot even tell you how excited I am about dinner tonight : ) I went to the Au Lac website to see what was offered. . .oh my they have expanded the raw menu since the last time I looked. . . .so many choices and all raw : )
