View Full Version : Help! Need Raw Burger/Patty Recipe

I wish I could say that with all the dehydrating I've done, I have found a really delicious burger/patty that my family likes. I think it is the taste of the sprouts or flax that does it for us. At least, that is my experience. I understand the benefits to flax and all, I just don't like the taste of it - plus, it is kind of slimey. Also, sprouts are such a dominant flavor and get kind of old after a while.
Does anyone have, or can you direct me to a really good, mainly vegetable, raw burger recipe? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

maraw, I made a really good one adapted from Crab Cakes in Brigitte Mars' cookbook Raw. Unfortunately I have loaned many of my raw books to my mom, so I can't help you much more than that. I put pea shoots in them instead of peas, but I remember stuff like corn, sweet red pepper, herbs, lemon juice, etc. If you have that book, check out that recipe, and go from there.
Also, it's not really a burger, but I like making things that are pretty much like the "stuffing nuggets" that were posted here before the holidays. Based on walnuts, celery, some sort of nice onion like green onion or leek or sweet onion, a pinch of cayenne, lemon juice, celtic salt, pink pepper, etc... and herbs like sage marjoram parsley, (poultry seasoning type herbs).
I don't use much flax, so I like both those two.

Thanks! I found the recipe for the stuffing balls (I think I will include mushrooms like someone had suggested). I don't have the recipe book you mentioned, but they sound very good. Do you think you could ask your Mom for that recipe? I will look in some of my other recipe books for a "crab cake" recipe and see what I can find. Good suggestion - thank you.

I've made Alissia's unchicken patties and left out the lentil sprouts -- we liked them.
So my suggestion is make something and leave out the sprouts.
Hope that helps!

I've had veggie burgers that had sunflower seeds, mushrooms, red peppers, garlic, onion, and other stuff, but I can't remember what.

Those are both really great suggestions. Thanks! I would have never thought of just leaving off the sprouts! How simple.
I think I may just visit the produce section and see what looks good tomorrow and do a little culinary experimenting.

Hi Maraw,
I am personally a BIG fan of Alissas carrot pecan burgers. They are not really heavy on the nuts - mostly carrot - but have a really great mix of flavours and hold together really well as a burger. I usually use them crumbled on salads - delicious! :D

I also like the carrot pecan burgers but my favorite are Alissa's Butternut Squash patties...I use less nuts than the recipe calls for but there's no sprouts in it....it has a fantastic flavor! I eat it in a lettuce wrap or on flax crackers!

Portabello mushroom burgers are really good. I make them about 1/4" thick, so they aren't gooey in the middle. then I put them on Alissa's pizza bread, onion bread, or sliced thinly and add to a salad.
2 large portabellos (Costco size is about 4-5" across)
2 tablespoons diced onion
1/4 cup finey ground flax...golden is best, milder flavor
1/4 cup finely chopped soft nuts of choice (pecan, walnut are best)
Put all in food processor
This is the basic recipe, then you can add anything you want for flavor....nama shoyu, fresh herbs, etc.
I use a really small ice cream scoop and then flatten a bit. Dehydrate
until desired texture obtained.

I vote for the carrot pecan burgers of Alissa's, also. And, of course, you don't have to dehydrate them; you can always eat them "raw" scooped with an ice cream scoop onto whatever you're going to eat them on -- crackers or a salad or pizza bread or .... ???

Thanks so much everyone! I am going to try the carrot pecan burgers today. I also really enjoy the butternut squash patties, but my poor husband is getting a little tired of them. They are the ones I usually make.
I'll let you know how they turn out...

OK, I'm lovin' the carrot pecan burgers. i made them last night and they are ready now - although it's a little early for burger flavor. I really like them. Once my stomach wakes up, I'm sure it will too!
I did add a little portobello mushroom to it, and I think next time I will add some celery.
Anyway, thanks everyone - problem solved!
