Can anyone share what they have experienced regaridng working out
while raw?

This is my first week 100% and it has been fabulous - I'm "high" all the time.
No lows like when I was SAD.... ha ha no put intended!!

Anyways, my energy and workouts have been great, I have even been hitting the weight again and really max-ing out. Will this continue or will it drop?

You see I have never been a vegetarian ...but I know people who stopped cause they said they needed the energy from meat. I'm not even thinking about meat...... but I'm just curious on what one might expect. Yes, I know we are all different but I would like to get the various experiences people have had.

Thanks in advance. :D

I'll bet they just never thought to try a veggie burger or something like that. I don't work out right now but plan on excersicing when the weather gets nicer so I cant really tell you that much from my own experience.

Congrats on your wonderful experience! Not to throw cold water on it but after being raw for nearly 2 years (end of April will be 2 years), I can share some of my experiences. I have experienced incredible highs, followed by times of no energy at all (during detox episodes). Overall the energy level rises slowly and quietly, like the rising of the sun, yet its powerful. Right now I am working out harder and longer than at anytime in my life. I am in the best shape of my life (I will be 45 this year). The really exciting thing is, I keep improving and getting better in my workouts. Your situation may be different because I don't know how old you are or what type of lifestyle you led prior to raw. But I can say this, enjoy the highs, don't get too bummed about the lows and enjoy the journey:)

Peace.

Thanks a bunch Todd - very good info & inspiring!! 45 and better than ever- FAB-U-LOUS!!! So, now I have another question- the body keeps detoxing?
My appetite is so small right now, will I get it back? I do have weird cravings and I just go with it, it is so nice to do that and not feel guilty!

Before RAW - Bascially I ate pretty well. I have always worked out. But the bad thing about when I was SAD is that I would binge eat, like eat poorly for a week or two. Food would serve to feed my emotions.... bad thing but part of my cravings were out of control- you know the more you eat junk the more your body wants it and then you feel like hell until you eat some more crap and you have a moment of "joy". It is a vicious cycle! Anyways, I'm over that but that answer the question about life pre-raw. Oh, I;m 32 :)

So, now I have another question- the body keeps detoxing?

I read somewhere (can't remember where right now, so much info out there), that for every decade one was SAD will be one year of experiencing detox. So for me, that would be 4 yrs of detox episodes (at different levels and probably not as severe as at the beginning but who knows). For you, it means 3 yrs of episodes on and off. I am finding that to be true for me so far, although the episodes are far and fewer between now. I know when its happening because I will feel weaker than normal, my body will hold more weight (like its getting ready to collect and dump) and I will eliminate  like 3 or 4 times a day for about 2 or 3 days. Then it will I will feel a jump in my energy, my weight drops back down and everything is wonderful again. The first 12 months or so it was happening every month pretty consistently. Now its like every 2 months or so. Like you, I am just going with the flow. :)

Peace.

Todd, you are such a wealth of info! I was going to ask you a question but then you answered it in this thread!

It's about energy and raw. I went all raw overnight, from eating pretty much whatever (except little junk food and no fast food) I lost a lot of weight pretty fast (was 100% for 3 weeks-I know, I know, not long enough...) but I was feeling pretty weak. I definitely had no stamina for exercise. Given that, and the difficulties of still cooking for my family, and the holidays coming, I went to about 50% raw, but mostly vegan, and now I'm about 50-80% raw and all vegan. But I have to tell you, adding that cooked food back in has given me TONS of stamina and I can workout hard now, which is so important to me.

From what you are saying, I just have to bear with the detoxing that could take potentially several months or even years, and slowly my strength would build? When your energy was low, did you still try to exercise, or did you have to take breaks from it? I guess that's where I'm at now. But maybe after a couple of years vegan I'll be ready to to 100% raw and the detox wont' be as severe. But I sure love working out and I hate when I'm too weak to do it.

Thanks for reading!

Hey slim er I mean Theresaann:). When I first went raw, it was summer. I was detoxing more often then. Whenever I was going outside to walk (I had not started running yet) and I felt lightheaded I would still walk. During my second summer raw (2005) I was running. Whenever I felt the lightheadedness that came with detox I would stop and just walk. If I felt weak during the resistance training I would just stop. The reason being is because I really don't want to hurt myself (which would derail future workouts). If the detox was REALLY bad (constant elimination and weakness of feeling), I wouldn't work out at all. That didn't happen too often. I think you are doing the right thing, going vegan and introducing raw slowly. If you keep working out the whole time, the transition will be easier for sure as your body will be flushing out toxins faster.

Keep up the inspiring work:)
