View Full Version : "New" use for almond meat

As I was making my almond milk, I was thinking to myself - how I wish I had a coffee grinder, so that I could make some almond or cashew butter, since I just bought some sesame oil today. Then I thought...hey, why don't you try using the almond meat, it's already ground up! So, I spread it out on the teflex sheet and sprinkled a little salt on it, and put it in the dehydrator. And when it's dry, I'm going to try adding some sesame oil, and honey to it, to make almond butter. What do you think? Will it work? I'm sure someone else out there has thought of doing this, so I'm sure it's not really a "new" idea. If you've tried it, and it didn't work, please let me know... Thanks!

Well, you have already strained the cream flavor from the almonds when you made the milk. I don't think this will make very good almond butter. Just my opinion though.
I understand you want to be thrifty and make use of everything, but don't feel bad if you don't come up with a use for it. I look at almond pulp the same way I look at a coconut hull or an nut shell. It is just a by product, you don't have to use it.
I know of raw fooders who juice the rinds of watermelons and that is fine if that is what they want to do. Me, however, I throw the rind away. I realize they may be nutrience in the rind, but I don't want the rind. Some people call that wasteful, I call it free will.

I'm with SamuelWilson; I don't think it's going to work. Even if it did, I'd omit the salt, anyway. BUT -- some people use the pulp in crackers and breads. If you are loathe to toss it, you might try that. I try to eat mostly whole foods myself at this point, so I'm no expert on other things to do with almond pulp. Good luck!

You can use the pulp in a variety of crackers, breads, and in mushroom burgers. It's lost some of the taste, but the pulp is still okay to use.

could you soak it in something like garlic olive oil to kind of reflavor it and then make it into crackers or burgers or something?

Hi
I make the most scrumptious "taco mush filling" using my almond pulp. Just put the pulp into the food processor along with an avacodo, some tomatoes, cider vinegar and seasonings (I use cumin, and cayenne pepper) and it tastes just like taco meat (I think it does at least). I don't make much almond milk but I will make some milk just so I can get the pulp so I can make this stuff. :D I love it! Sorry I don't have exact measurements, I tend to just throw stuff in until it tastes right and yummy and delicious.
If anyone is just throwing the pulp out, please mail it to me! LOL! ;)
Seriously though, this is very tasty and a good use for the pulp.
There is also a recipe posted on here for making cinamon rolls using the alond pulp too. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds like it would be good.

wow, I never heard of this! what a great idea!
I will have to try it.
and yes, I've heard lots of people using it in crackers.
you could mix it with carrot pulp left over from juicing if
you want to be really thrifty.
I ditto the comments that it wouldn't be good as an almond butter.
go for making the crackers or this taco mush.

I have used my almond pulp just to eat it. I put some agave on it and ate it up.
There was probably about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of pulp.
I dont make the milk with a lot of almonds. So this amount of pulp was just enough to eat as is.

Thank you!
I hope you guys like it. I find it to be fantastic! My 8 year old daughter loves it and says that it really does taste just like taco meat.
Also I forgot to mention that I add in a little sea salt as well as some lemon juice, and some sort of spicy pepper. Last time I added pablano chilis to it. It was spicy and good!

I do something similiar to Live Free, except use raw honey and some cinnamonn instead of the agave; I eat it like yogurt..definitely a good stand in.
