You need to do what works for your budget and style; there area several choices out there, though for many of us, the Excalibur is the one to go with. There are three models [4/5/9 tray] on the Excalibur - Alissa's webstore sells two of the them, and you can also do a google search to look around.

Had a circular dehydrator before, but it heated from the bottom up [unevenly] and the circles made it difficult to do certain things, like loaves, etc. Have much more versatility with the Excalibur.

Can most dehydrators heat below 118 degrees, or are there certain ones for that?

I found a really cheap Ronco, are those okay?

As long as the temperature is adjustable, and you get get it low enough. Many dehydrators with only one setting heat too high and cook the food!

PS We bought the 4 tray Excalibur a few years ago and upgraded to the 9 within months. The nine is the only way to go if you plan on making lots of crackers and everything - with the 4 tray I had it going daily. With the 9 tray only once every few weeks! I love it!!!
