So who is with me? :)
I'll be starting my first ever juice fast with the New Year, January 1, 2005. I plan on going for a minimum of 10 days, but I'd like to shoot for the entire month of January. I'd love others to join me in a long fast as well, though the company of short fasters is of course welcome!

Hi Olive -- What a great plan for the start of the new year! I'd love to join you. My only barrier (and I know I can think my way through it) is a little bit of fear...The only fast I've ever done is the 7 day fast starting on Oct. 27th, my first day 100% raw. It was a positive experience and very fascinating to me...amazing how I wasn't hungry and got into a whole different "head" ... I think I could do 10 days. I'm going to meditate about this and let you know. Thanks for planting the seed of this idea.

Hi, Olive,
I'm just doing an OJ fast right now that will last up to Christmas Eve, then I will have a week of eating with family and all around, but I will plan to do a juice fast with you starting in January. (Not just OJ this time, probably a lot of veggie juice with a little fruit juice now and then.) I'll aim for ten days with you as well, but go longer if my body seems to be enjoying it.
Ultimately I am aiming for mostly eating my fruits and veggies, but I'm still needing to lose a lot of weight and need some healing, so I plan to just up the nutrition my body is receiving for a while, and see where it takes me.
Peace,
Curtis

Great idea Olive, can't join you this time I am starting my 30 challenge on January 1 so a few days before I will fast some. But good luck to you and all who join you!

Melissa,
Yeah, I have some fear around it as well. Will I have the willpower to get through the first few days? Will I just keel over from whacked out blood sugar? Will I get sick? Seeing all the wonderful fasting results from people here makes me pretty determined though! I'm glad you'll join me, the support will help me through the rough patches! I think my partner is going to fast with me. She's very excited and it feels like such a good thing to do together!
Stargazer,
How's the oj fast going? I've thought about doing one, but I was concerned about having that much citrus.
Curtis,
Have a wonderful 30 day challenge!

So far, so good; I'm drinking more than I thought I would, but it seems to be slowing down a little bit now. I've been using straws to drink the juice (to help protect my teeth from too much citrus--I think I read that on Jinjee's site). But I've been feeling fine so far; we'll see how it goes for the next few days.
Peace,
Valerie

"Valerie Valerie Valerie!"
way to go, I started a juice fast this morning. 2 1/2 pices of chocolate and then have jice since then. I'm feeling the momentum and gaining some balance. How long are you fasting until?

I'm aiming to end Christmas Eve, but if I find myself fighting cravings before then, I'll let it go and just eat some fruit. I've learned the hard way that it's better for me to be moderate and gentle with myself than to fight a big food battle that always ends up with a binge! I'm trying to become less competitive with myself. :-)

Olive I'll do the juice fast with you. I have never fasted before so it will be a challenge for me I thought I to would try the 10 days of fasting but have decided that I want to take it right through all of January like you said. I have heaps of weight to loose and I want to make "2005" the year that I take control of my own body.

I'm with you- going to do the Master Cleanse for at least the minimum 10 days but I am aiming for all of January. We are going to go get our electric citrus juicer tomorrow. Like Jo-anne, I have tons of weight to lose and this is the breakthrough year! I'm sick of going back and forth.

Joopie- I too have put on some pounds and need to get them off! So I'm in on the new years fast. I know what to expect this time since I did a short one with Alissa and the group a few weeks ago. Now, I have a juicer, and I am motivated to get this going! We can do it! Here's to 2005!

Hey guys and gals.... about 3 years ago I did a 30 day juice fast program that was supervised by fast master Dennis Paulson at www.fasting.com
I cannot recommend it highly enough!
I feel it is important to do long-term fasts under supervision, not only for the coaching and support, but because you just can't imagine what kinds of things (physical, emotional, spiritual, mental) will surface while you are cleansing. He is a seasoned veteran, and his program is very practical and I did it with little to no interruption in my daily lifestyle. I have had several other people in my life do his program (they vary in length) and have LOVED it. So check it out!
Also, if you have any fasting questions, I'd be happy to help too, by sharing my experiences with my own 30 day program. When I become a Naturopathic Physician, I plan to specialize in cleansing and detox. :)

Hey Veggiegirl,
I love Dennis Paulson.....I read about him 6 months ago and have always kept it in the back of my mind. Can I ask what health issue were a cocern for you--if at all? If you prefer me to send you pm I could do that as well.
what did you like about him program vesus a standard juice/vegetable juice fast that some of us are doing?

I would love to do a supervised/assisted fast, but I simply don't have the money. I am counting on my own inner guidance and the support here to assist me! VeggieGirl, I'd love to hear more about your fasting experience though! Especially the first week. I plan on starting on a Friday, so that I have the weekend to ease into it, but there is no way for me to get around working and seeing clients.
In other news . . . I didn't get a juicer for Christamas like I thought. I did get a beautiful set of Henckel knives though! I have a very old but working Champion that someone gifted me, so I ordered the new parts for it and should be ready to start fasting January 7th. I'm very excited!

I am thinking I will be doing my modified version of this cleanse starting over New Years weekend. I do this 4 times a year, typically for a week at at time. I have done it with Maple syrup, as well as a sugar syrup made from raw cane (I was living in the Caribbean and had access.) This time I am thinking of trying to substitute fresh green apple juice with the lemons. I am not sure if the calorie content will be high enough though. That is why I like the MC because with the 800 -1000 calories a day from the sugars I can function, even at work.
It is interesting, while juice fasting it is not that I get hungry, it is that my mind kind of gets floaty...kinda like I am "high". This doesn't go over too well for me in the line of work I am in, so I typically end up breaking the fast before the 7th day....I agree that doing a supervised fast is imperative if you are doing a true fast. I don't really consider the MC as a fast since you are really getting calories. I guess that is why it is called a cleanse anyway. Perhaps juice fasting is similar I suppose.
Anyway, count me in as support. I may lean on you all too!
Cassy
ps. check out my 30 day journal in the challenge thread.

Just want to put the word out that my new year's juice fast began today! I'm going to try for 7-10 days this time. My only other time juice fasting was in late October to jumpstart my 100% raw commitment. I did 5 days that time and noticed real improvement in my fibro symptoms (and weight loss.) Anyway, I'll be journaling about it this week and will also look into your journals to see how you're all doing. Sending happy, healthy juice fast wishes out to you all. Hoping detox goes easy on us too...That can be the toughest part, for me at least.

Hi all!
I started my juice fast yesterday and am on day 2. I found myself actually scared to start, but I did it! Yesterday went pretty well and today is smooth so far. I've had a lowgrade pounding headache since yesterday afternoon, but that's about it. A little floaty too, but not awful. I feel "here" but complicated thoughts kind of allude me right now! At this point, I'm planning on continuing through Sunday for a 7 day fast. If I still feel good, I will continue my fast.

good idea Olive, I will do the same--taking it day by day! What are you using for an internal cleanser if at all?

linda :p
Olive
01-03-2005, 04:18 PM
Nope, no internal cleanser--just juice! Still going strong. I can't seem to get warm though (since yesterday). Kind of annoying to have permanently cold feet and hands! I hope this fades during the fast--I'm having to work with my coat on, lol!

Olive, I'm on Day 3 of my Master Cleanse and I'm freezing too. I keep taking warm showers and turning up the heat.
I have had some detox symptoms, but am doing pretty well. I have lost 9 lbs as of today (in 2.5 days!) and feel great besides the detox. I am sweating really stinky sweat and my tongue is coated. I'm cold and have head and body aches. All of these things are off and on- I know I ate badly for so long that it's going to take quite a while to clean everything out. I hope to stay on this for a while!
Hope you all are doing well with your fasts!

Perfect timing I was just going to report that I am freeeezing too. Interestingly, I find that I am cold when I don't drink enough water to help flush my toxins--I'm going to experiment and see again.
Julie! I am envious of your detox symptoms--I WANT THE STINKY SWEAT AND COATED TONGUE! LOL.
If you guys are looking for a smoother and safer way to rid the toxins, member "askcassyfirst" who works at the digestive center told me about the flaxseed gel tea. Prior to juicing, I was eating ground up flax and OMG my bowels were all day for several days---made a BIG difference. I will be using the tea version for the juice cleanse.

I'll try the flax goo on the weekend, when I won't have to leave the house, lol!
It's fairly wet and rainy here with temps in the 50's. Not the nicest weather, but I'm the kind of person that usually runs warm. I definitely think it's the fast!
The most interesting thing about the fast is my lack of hunger. I really expected to have problems with hunger, having many years of compulsive eating issues, but I haven't been at all hungry. I find that so odd!
Oh, I also wanted to get some suggestions for good green juice combos. I'm trying to do lower sugar juices in the morning, as it seems to keep my blood sugar more even. Any ideas?

I'm so glad my B.O. is to be envied. LOL
What flaxseed gel tea are you talking about? I just posted over on the Master Cleanse thread about having elimination issues. I'm trying to figure out the best laxative for me right now. The salt water flush is working, I just think I'm pretty impacted. I'm using Smooth Move senna tea as well. Any suggestions?
As for the weather, it's supposed to be between 0-20 degrees tomorrow with 2-5 inches of snow. It's pretty cold tonight and there are winter storm watches for a lot of places. I haven't been outside much this past week due to my lovely salt water flush (don't want to take any chances lol) so I have no idea what it's really like out there.
I have had a few bouts of hunger but I think they were far more mental than physical. They passed pretty quickly when I got up and started doing something or drank some limeade. One thing that has been hard for me though, is to see SAD food on TV. It makes me so hungry I have to change the channel. I'm avoiding television now and things are just fine.
Happy 4th day!

WOW (!!!!!!!!!!!) You're doing awesomeon the MC--I wanted to do it so bad but onthe 2nd day my ND said not a good idea for me right now. Anyway, how do you like the salt water flush--do you feel like it's harsh on your stomach? When you drink it, do you feel your hands swell up or feet?
I'm going to be making tea out of the flaxseesd---I'll post again with the recipe.
Are you drinking water in between you lemonades? Stay warm and think about how well your doing on the MC--the SAD will look miserable.
cold but sunny today,

My hands and feet aren't swelling at all. I think I'm done doing the salt water flush. It was pretty harsh on my stomach, as was the senna tea. My stomach cramped a lot on the tea. After reading about the other things, I am going to try them. I just did the flax seed gel and mixed it with my limeade, it was fine. I also had two tbsp.'s of Udo's Choice Oil (Flax and other oils), so maybe that will keep things going. I'm heading to Wild Oats tonight to get some of the Renew Life stuff that Cassy was talking about. It was strange, right after I drank the flax gel/ limeade (two minutes ago), I instantly felt better. My head cleared, my stomach stopped hurting, and now I feel great! I am drinking lots of water in between everything.
One thing I was really surprised at was that everyone said that fasting is hard for the first 3 days and then it's fine- that is so true! This is day 4 and fasting is a lot easier. I was struggling a little bit up to last night and it seems to have gone away. I always want food more at night for some reason.
The SAD already looks miserable, I think it's just because it is FOOD that it looked good. LOL I'm settling into the fast now, though. I want to stay on it for a while and let my body really heal and repair itself. I know I need to do a liver flush here pretty soon. Maybe I'll grab one of those tonight too.
misslinda

Hi everyone. I just wanted to say hi and join the fasting girls party LOL
I'm on day 4 of my juice fast today and doing well. Doing a daily coffee enema to help flush the toxins. Also scraping tongue and adding a bit of peroxide to water and rinsing my mouth with that after I brush. Yowee, a white bubbly tongue each time!
In a stroke of amazing luck, a client of mine sent me a box of organic oranges yesterday as a New Year's present...great timing! When you juice oranges, do you peel them and toss them in the juicer (I have a Juiceman Jr.) or do you use a spinning citrus juicer? I'm experimenting since I'm not crazy about the frothy o.j. the Juiceman makes.
I'm posting what I'm juicing daily on my Journal pages. I'll check back here too. Good luck ladies

Yipeee Melissa,
I have read on a number juicing sites that said that the peel should be removed first--sometimes I like leaving it on b/c I like that frothy stuff ! :p
My juicing is going smoothly too--I am drinking a little over a 1/2 gallon of water a day--it truly makes the detox symptoms easier. One interesting observation is every morning @ 5:30 ish, I am more wake than any other part of the day. Then I read that this is the hour that the liver and gallbladder are awake! So then I drink more water.
thinking of my juicing buddies!

Hello ladies! Day four and I'm doing splendid. I can't get over how great I feel. A little hunger last night, but nothing major. I feel like I could just live on juice! I've decided to skip green juices for a few days since they really aren't appealing to me. We got a case of organic valencia oranges yesterday and I have been drinking fresh oj to my heart's content! One box was $36, so it's kind of pricey, but totally worth it. Melissa, we use a a manual glass reamer/bowl thingy. It works pretty well! I haven't tried oranges in my champion yet and probably won't, since I don't like the froth.

This is a little graphic, be forewarned!
Oh my, did I have quite the day of detoxing. I used the CleaseSmart stuff last night and my head felt a little wierd right after I took it, like I took percoset or something. I took the morning dose of the cleanse stuff and the fiber as well. I drank about a half gallon of water and a ton of limeade. I wasn't going to the bathroom at all and I was feeling really bad. I was feeling really constipated and then I got a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE headache. I have never had a headache like this, EVER. I had that for a while, so I made myself a salt water flush really fast because I was so desperate to get the toxins out and nothing was moving. Before I even had a chance to drink it, I got this huge wave of sick feeling come over me and I had to run to the toilet to throw up. I threw up about 2 cups of pure mucous. It was disgusting and I felt like total crud but at the same time I was *SO* excited!!!! I rested for a little bit and then drank the salt water. Not too long later, things started happening. I went to the bathroom a few times and still felt like I needed to clean out. I weighed myself and I was almost back up to the weight I started before the cleanse. (This morning before I drank anything I was down 10 lbs.) I know my body is doing some serious stuff- I guess I wasn't expecting detox to be this bad. (I don't know why, I know I'm really toxic. I guess I just hadn't ever experienced it before.) I still feel pretty bad, my head hurts and I'm all spacey....really out of it. Also, I have noticed for the last few days that whenever I take a shower it is a mucous fest. I guess the steam makes my nose run and makes it come up my throat. Ugh! Sorry for the gross details!
Are you guys detoxing at all? How are your fasts going?

Hellooo....OK I just read your posts Linda and Olive. Sorry I'm so slow! :)
I just figured out the private messages thing, and check that regularly now, so if you don't see a response on the boards, by all means, pm me! :D
Alright, so you both asked a couple questions, and it's way past my bedtime, so I'll just comment on a couple things and if you want to know more, pm me.
I initially did it because I have always wanted to do a cleanse and couldn't ever go to, say, a retreat for 30 days. His you can do without interrupting your life. Some of my goals in that fast were: to get off sugar, to clear up my acne (which I did, marvelously!), to lose 10-13 pounds of fat I was carrying, and to experience really being clean from the inside out.
What I liked about Dennis's program is that when you have a coach with a tried-and-true program, you never have to second-guess yourself. Plus, when you drop the ca$h, you are committed! There is no turning back. For me, there is a lot of mental anguish (for lack of a better word) that can come up during fasts, and I've tried doing them on my own, unsuccessfully. I just get 'in my head' too much about things like "what if X happens?" "Is this normal?" "How come I am / am not experiencing X symptoms?" "Maybe I should stop now" "Maybe I've lost too much weight" or "Why am I not losing enough weight?" "Right now isn't a good time to do this. I should just break my fast" etc, you know, getting caught up in the monkey mind rather than just letting the marvelous cleansing process happpen. I am not skilled nor experienced enough in long term fasting to beat down those mental demons as they appear. I really valued Dennis's coaching to get me through some nasty physical, mental, and emotional challenges associated with the fast.
The other thing is - if you are doing long term fasts, you must scrape your tongue each morning (just use an inverted spoon head) and, you will most definitely benefit from an enema at least once a day.
Proper scientific fasting is, well, a science! There are many methods of 'fasting' out there that are more like starvation and I just don't agree with those methods. His program is very user-friendly, safe, and practical.
One thing that he teaches is that all your juices must be strained through a fine mesh screen (i.e. permanent coffee filter) to get ALL pulp, puree, seeds, fibers, whatever, out of it. So...no smoothies, froth, etc. Any solid particle ingested will prevent your brain from shutting down the appestat mechanism (the part of your brain that tells your tummy it's time to eat...or is it the other way around? lol...), thus leaving you feeling weak and hungry most of the time. Also, if you are ingesting solid particles of any kind, your body has to use its metabolic energy to digest food, which means you are not skillfully shutting down the digestive processes, resulting in either totally slowing down or not ever entering the phase of a fast where the body will start to pull toxins from the tissue.
OK, hubby is calling me to bed. It's almost 1 AM! LOL...
Talk to you all soon ;)

Olive
01-06-2005, 12:01 PM
Thanks VeggieGirl for the post!
I already strain most of my juice and take the foam off. I haven't been scraping my tongue yet, but it sounds like a good idea. I also haven't been doing enemas this fast, though I will in the future. I think two new scary things at once would be too much for me. :)
So, I'm on day five and doing well. I went to bed super early (9:30, which is really early for me) last night and woke up feeling tired and spacey. My last juice was around 4:30, so I think that had something to do with it. I'm also having intestinal cramping, though it's not bad. And the little bit of bm that I'm having is bright yellow. Bile maybe? Or just the juice? Overall, still feeling good and motivated! I think I will end my fast on Sunday though, making it a 7 day juice fast. I had wanted to do a long fast, but I think for my first fast ever, a shorter one would be best. I think I will do a long one over summer or fall and another short one before then.
Have a wonderful juicy day!

Linda,
I went down about 5 lbs. I drank a TON of water yesterday so I know that made it go up- the liquid is still probably in there loosening things up. That's what seems to be happening, anyway.
I feel great after that wierd detox thing yesterday. Still not where I want to be, but on my way!
Question: I am going to start straining my limes better- but if I am taking the CleanseSmart capsules, will that keep my digestion going? I'm thinking so... so I was considering breaking the capsules open into water and just taking them that way. If anyone knows about this could you please help me out?
I scraped my tongue last night (Wild Oats has really cool tongue scrapers if you want an "official" one LOL) and it's already coated again this morning.
Today is the day I start exercising!
Keep on chuggin' (your juice :) )

I haven't done the flush today, just yesterday when I needed to feel better fast. I am going to start doing enemas every day for a little while and then every two or three after that. I just don't feel like I'm cleaning out like I need to, I feel "stuck" (but not really constipated). I'm still going #2 but it's mostly liquid... I am drinking so much but it doesn't seem like everything is exiting. There has to be a lot going on in there because I am definitely detoxing- I guess time will tell!
Time to go tongue scrape!

HERE'S SOME HELPFUL THOUGHTS FOR ANYONE DOING OR PLANNING ON DOING A JUICE FAST.
VEGGIEGIRL BROUGHT UP AN INTERESTING POINT ABOUT MAKING SURE THE JUICE IS RUN THROUGH A STRAINER SO THAT ALL FROTH AND PULP IS OBSOLETE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I SEARCHED OTHER WEBSITES THAT DISCUSSES JUICE FASTING AND IT WAS MENTIONED THAT TO PREVENT THE BODY FROM GOING INTO STARVATION MODE, REMOVE ALL FROTH AND PULP SO THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM CAN FOCUS ON DETOXIFYING OTHERWISE THE BLOOD WILL TRY TO FOCUS ON DIGESTING. I'M NOT AN EXPERT BUT I SUPPOSE THAT WOULD CAUSE THE BODY TO THINK THAT IT WAS STARVING--IT MADE SENSE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ITEM OF THE DAY: STRAINER OR COFFEE FILTER :p
IF ANYONE HAS ANY OTHER HELPFUL TIPS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST THEM HERE
DOES THIS MEAN I AM STARTING ALL OVER WITH MY JUICE FAST?

Joopie: No need to open the capsules of CS, they are veggie type, and will dissolve in your belly, no residue. You WILL want to strain the juice. (MissLinda is right with her last post) That was my mistake the first time I did the master cleanse...I was so attached to the little lime fibers, they were like "chewing" on something, but I still saw them in my BM so I know that wasn't good. I think that is why Stanley Burroughs says to strain the juice.
Sounds like everyone is doing great. I applaude you. I am at day 11 of the raw challenge, and have put off the MC for a bit. I was to have started it last weekend, but I never managed to get it going. I do think it takes courage. It has been several months though, so I am overdue....

Cassy,
Good darn thing I don't have to open them- I tried it and EWWWWWW! LOL I get really spaced out whenever I take the CleanseSmart capsules.... do you think that is the herbs or the detox? It happens pretty quickly right after I take them.
I think I am going to try staying on the salt water flush for a while before I do enemas, I decided. I read Nora Lenz's article that Curtis posted on another thread, and I have heard the same thing in a number of other places. I am going to continue to use the CleanseSmart and let my body do the rest. I just need to be patient.

The flax doesn't seem to be working so much. I haven't tried magnesium.

we're you using organic celtic salt for the flush? sorry, i dont mean to suggest magnesium, i wonder if this CAN be used since higher dosages cause a laxative effect in some people. i'm not an expert so please don't rely on my info--i hate to see something happen to you!!!!!!
Are you massaging colon area Julie?

Yep, Celtic sea salt and yes, I'm massaging. Maybe it's just taking time to break everything up in there. Who knows. I haven't gone back down the full 10 lbs. again yet, so some liquid is staying in me. I'm going to do the flush in the morning.

Hi everybody~
Boy...I'm feeling a little lost among your discussion. Can I get caught up?
What is a master cleanse? I have never heard of the Salt flush?
I am starting an orange juice fast tommorrow for 10 days. I haven't seriously fasted since college when I did a 22 day water fast. I have never done a juice fast...it almost feels like cheating to me. So I am so glad to have heard the info. on straining the juice. Thank you all for sharing, it is so cool to hear all these ideas!!
Julie~When I fasted before my colon really slowed down too. It was a water fast tho...I also did chlorophyll and garlic enemas. About the bath thing Linda mentioned. She is right org. mustard seed powder 2 tbsp. in a bath is fantastic. I also add grated ginger and put in a sock ( tie a knot around the end) and plop it into the tub (like a tea bag kinda :)) The most important thing I learned about bathtime from my Naturopath was you need to be in the tub for 10+ minutes. This way your pores open up and dump the toxins. Anything shorter than that won't necessarily do the trick. Also, I do the above tub combo to prevent getting sick. Make sure your husband is close by the first time you do it ( esp. with being on a fast) cuz you may feel woozy when you get up. (mustard seed is a great muscle relaxant too). Then just rinse off in the shower and fall into bed:)
Tell me how you like it!!!
Are you all doing a variety of kinds of juice? ARe some of you doing fruit vs vegt., or just one or the other? What have you heard is best.?
The only reason I am doing a orange juice fast, was cuz Jinjee and Storm from thegardendiet.com recommend it before swithing to all raw. Have any of you tried it?
I just want to do what is best for my body! Know what I mean?!

Mishka Mishka!
Yep love the Mustard seed powder.
The master cleanse is a cleanse that was made famous by Stanley Burrough. Because of the healing & cleansing properties of lemon, he created the recipe (there are different variations but here is the one I have) 8-10 oz distilled water, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2tbsp grade B blk strap molasses and 1/8 tsp cayenne. this mixutre is to drunk throughout the day. Lemons being alkaline, has many healing qualities and detox effects. for example removing mucous of the inttestines. cleanses the bladder and kidneys, draw toxins out of tissues and more.........he does mention in order to prepare for the cleanse, you drink a salt water flush (quart of warm water and 2 tbsp celtic salt or epsom salt) to cleanse the intestines and colon (laxative effect).
I hear of people doing it avery 3 days to rid the toxins. This cleanse is meant to be on the cellular level. Removing dead cell and rebuilding new ones. This is just my sketchy outline of it, my 2 cents worth--I found a book at my health food store and did a keyword search STANLEY BURROUGH THE MASTER CLEANSER --this way you read alot of different perspectives and information.
As far as the juicing, I do mostly veggies b/c of the sugar content. I've read on many fast juicing sites that suggest more veggies but that is just what i prefer too. I find that if i do more fruits, my blood sugar becomes more suseptible to highs and lows. I also feel like there are alot more nturients i can get from veggies vs doing a complete fruit or orange juicing.
I'm drinking a little over a 1/2 gallon of distilled water a day and juice every hour. i'm still trying to discover the best eliminator to rid the toxins.
although, i messed up today!!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr
l
et us know what you decide,
linda :p

Juice Gals,
I ended my juice fast at Day Five last night, feeling very good about the whole experience. I was fasting with three family members and they did great too. I'm thinking of doing a juice fast once a week, kind of a Sabbath for my G.I. system :p Just want to say good luck to those starting or continuing on! xoxo M.

Wowowowowowowwwwwww, it has already been one week! It's funny to think that I haven't eaten anything this year. LOL
The Master Cleanse is going well, thanks for your concern, Linda. LOL I am still doing my thing, just trying to drink more and I'm still taking my CleaseSmart capsules. I threw up another half cup of mucous this morning in the shower.. the steam really gets it out. Had 1 BM today.. I think that my body is absorbing the liquid to break up stuff... I'm still not down the full 10 lbs. again yet. I can tell that's what happening, so I'm just drinking and staying busy! My body shape is changing... I have lost 7-8 lbs. and my body is still getting smaller and my fat and cellulite are melting away. It's awesome! DH likes it, too. :D
Are you detoxing, Linda?
How are you all doing on your fasts??? I want answers!!! LOLOL :D

Hi everbody~
I started the orange juice fast today. I forgot why I like to eat. Oh yeah it cuz I don't like feeling hungry LOL!!! I wasn't able to get a box of valencia's, so I'm juicing navel oranges. It has been taking 6-7 oranges to get 1 glass of juice! I figure I'll stick with this type of fast this time , unless I'm having a major problem. I have to admit tho...the master cleanse sounds very interesting.!! I am esp. interested cuz Julie has been able to get so much mucous out of her system! You go girl!!!
Linda thanks for explaining the details...I will go check out that site, and maybe incorporate it into my fast. How long are you all planning on fasting for?
I'm so bad ...I told my husband last night he's in charge of dinner for the next 3 nights (this is when we tend to not eat raw meals) cuz the first 3 days were always challenging/tempting to me with food around. He's being a sport about it too!!!! I think he wants the end result:) LOL
Hope everyone is doing well with detoxing. I'm not there yet, but I'll let ya know.

Honestly, I slipped for a day and 1/2 so I am getting back on track,
However, I discovered that when I "slipped" the flaxseed crackers that I ate and carrots, assisted a AWESOME BM that made me feel better so now I feel even more stronger to do a juice fast. I think that I am finding my comfort and safe zone. Now, I will shoot for 5 straight days then five more hopefully a total 15 days!

I forgot to say wooohoooo to Melissa for doing her fast in my last post, so: "WOOOOHOOOO!"
I feel terrible tonight. My head is killing me and I'm totally spaced out. I am mucous queen. I didn't write a lot in my journal tonight because I'm heading to bed, but there are more details there.
Goooooo Mishka and Linda!!!
Beware of the MC... it definitely promotes detox and it's NOT FUN. LOL :)
I am going to stay on it as long as possible. (At least until my tongue grossness clears up.) I hope detox lets up soon, it's getting hard to deal with.
I'll update again tomorrow!

Michelle, I forgot to thank you for the post about the bath stuff, I'll let you know how it goes. I haven't tried it yet.
The Master Cleanse is going REALLY well. If you guys want more details, please go to my journal- I do seem to forget to put some things down in there though. Detox is making me really spacey and it's really hard for me to concentrate. I've noticed it in my typing, my speaking, and everything else. I am doing the salt water flush but not the senna tea. It's working marvelously. I feel AWESOME!!! (Awesome but still a little tired.) Detox has slowed a bit but I'm still mucous-y.. not as bad as before though. The more limeade I drink the more mucous comes out (and the more headaches I get). I just ran out of limes and maple syrup (I'm using Grade B organic maple syrup, not molasses...) so we have to go to the store tonight. I haven't been drinking as much lately, I need to change that. My skin is awesome, my fat and cellulite are just falling off. I'm just out of it and get cold sweats at night with really stinky sweat. My tongue is coated too. At least I know my body is responding to this!!! It is amazing and one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I would highly, highly, highly recommend it. It does take discipline and detox is sometimes difficult but it is SO worth it. Oh, and I've lost almost 15 lbs. so far!

Julie**********that is applause!!!! I'm so glad your body is responding so well. You have been such an encouragement to us all:) I love hearing about the cellulite/fat dripping off YAHOO!!! I can't wait till I'm with ya there!
I stopped my orange juice fast. I was going thru sooooo many navel oranges, (28 in 1 day!!!!). Which was only 4 glasses of juice. Plus what my kids had. They always want whatever I'm having. Anyways...my husband convinced me to start over on monday when I have a box of valencia oranges. This made me a bit grumpy...cuz I already was grumpy from the adjustment of juice fasting,ha. SO off to Whole Foods I go tommorrow...early. They weren't avaiable from the co-op I order from this month. In the evening of the fast, I was coughing up pure white (not clear) mucus. Chunks of it (that sounds gross). SO I am hoping this next week to cont. with the mucus dumping. I have to work on tues, and Wed. at the hospital...so I may have to run to target to get a portable orange juicer. The one I have is an attachment to my BOsch. I know with other juice your're suppose to drink it in the first 15 min. cuz of oxidation. Is that true with oranges too? If it's not...it sure would be easier just to juice before work. Somehow I'll make it work. I want this to happen.:)

Thanks for the "wooooohooooo" and right back at you! I'm glad I did the fast. Looking forward to trying my one day fast each week (shabbat for the GI system) and also to trying the Master Cleanse at some point. Good for you Joopie for sticking with it. Did you guys read about that woman (Howard Stern's assistant, forget her name) who cured her fibro/fatigue condition with MC and lost lots of weight too. I always remember that article about her (though not her name LOL) because she said that her symptoms cleared up when she didn't eat and came on strong when she did. And that's how I feel with my fibro. But I can't just stop eating, so raw is the best thing for avoiding all the toxins. I'll keep checking in on this thread...Wishing you all luck!

Hi everyone! I made it through the full seven days of my juice fast! Yipee! The last day was definitely the hardest, since I knew I would be eating soon. I don't think I've ever craved a banana so much! Breaking the fast yesterday was kind of rough as well. I could really feel my digestion kicking back in and my metabolism picking up again. I was much warmer yesterday than I had been the rest of the week. One thing that surprised me about the fast was how few detox symptoms I had. Headaches the first two days and really cold the entire time, but that's about it. Is that good or bad?
Well, I'm happy to be back in the world of solid food again, though I look forward to my next juice fast (probably this spring). Thanks to all you gals for your support and postings!

General question for everyone: whe you start sold foods again let's day 2 days after a juice fast, how soon should you expect your bowel to resume? If not, what do you think is wrong and what should one do?

Hi Kate,
If you scroll down through this forum and read the posts on juice fasts, you'll find a ton of information. The basic idea is to consume nothing but fresh juice for the fast period. If you don't have a juicer, you can still do an orange/grapefruit juice fast easily with a cheap manual reamer (I have a glass one that's like a bowl with a reamer head in the middle). Any juice you buy at the store (unless it says it is not pastuerized) is not suitable for a fast since it's been pastuerized and has been turned into glorified sugar water.
Hi Linda,
The day I broke my fast I had three bananas, a small veggie salad with a light mango dressing, avo/sauerkraut/carrot nori rolls and apple pie. It was all raw and pretty low fat, though not as simple as I was intending. No digestive problems though!

Hiya Linda~
When I have fasted before it was with water only. The recommendation was for every3-5 days of fasting you have fruit juice only for the entire 1st day,2nd day follow with solid fruit for 1st solid meal, and raw veggies and/or fruit for the rest of the day (yet small portions..You tend not to want a lot). Then on the 3rd day you could incorporate whatever. I usually did the above, and my bowels started moving "normally" by the 2nd day. BUT..let me tell you ,one time I was on a 10 day fast , and I broke my fast in the am with fruit juice as always, well in the evening I was picking up my fiancee up from the airport...I decided to make my first apple pie to suprise him. Well of course ,I had to taste it since it was a first time...make sure I wouldn't poison the poor guy!! HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake. I felt like someone was putting a knife in my stomach!!! The cramping was severe. IT sure taught me a lesson. Deal with your body gently and it will be nice back!
(I haven't done more than a 2 day fast in 10 yrs., so it will be interesting to see the difference esp. since I am doing a juice fast this time.) I'll KIT

Is anyone still fasting with me here? I know Michelle is because she just started, but is anyone that started on Jan. 1st still going?
I'm on Day 13 of the Master Cleanse- not sure how long I'll stay on it but I am still aiming for 40 days of healing.
I don't feel great still.. kinda run down and tired- but I know my body is working things out according to God's natural laws.. and I can't wait to see and feel what is in store!!!
I have been craving food A LOT in the past few days- and DH brought in some Subway the other day and just about sent me to the moon.. it smelled SO GOOD. (I guess when you haven't eaten for two weeks that would happen...) lol I'm sticking with this, though. I'm determined to get healthy and lose weight. Determined, determined, determined. I have to keep telling myself that. LOL I guess I'm doing OK for my first fast.
If you have the inkling to do so, please tell me I'm doing a good job to make this easier!!! LOLOL :o It's been pretty easy overall, but there have been a few slightly more difficult times. I think I just really miss chewing something. I have done this very strictly- no other juices even.. and I made DH crack up the other day when I licked one of his apple slices. LOL!
Cheers to you all that have eaten this year! :D
Rawk on!

Have you taken a brisk walk to get some of the emotions out related to cooked food? Keep telling yourself it's not the end of the world and this juicing is temp........YOU CAN DO IT hooray hooray hooray.............besides, you'l regret it.

hey mishka,
congrats on having the strength and willpower--your going to be one of the FEW that we look up to !!!!!!!
Emotioonal detox as i've read in a number of juice fasting sites is one symptom that your body is releasing toxins, changing, cleansing, renewing, and allows your "optimal well being" of who you are to surface.
it can pronounce itself in many ways--i hear alot of people say they feel melancholy, free, relaxed, energized and a better sense of everything around them. i can't remember who was it but one member had crying outbursts for no reason--personally, b/c i tend to believe in the whole metaphysic theories, i believe that the body's cells and energy are the "blueprints" of our lives.
all the life experiences whether emotional, physical, metal etc can be released and i tend to believe that "fasting" to heal the body, does just that. i believe it's the language of our body saying "set me free" everything being gracefully connected again. :)
in awe of you my friend,
linda

Linda~
WOW!! Thankyou, but that first sentence is underserved. I feel like I have been such a hypocrite, I have known about the vegan lifestyle, then raw for awhile. I had the knowledge in my head and was even sharing a bit...but wasn't putting it into practice, ugh. So I have a long way to go to get some self respect ,trust me. If you're looking up to anything ...it's my height (I'm 5'9) :o
What your describing reminds me of a small book I read a long time ago called, "That toxic fat". It basically said that when we lose weight fat enters the bloodstream and "old" toxins and resurface. This book mostly dealt with physical symptoms, i.e.: someone who has done drugs in the past and is losing weight can have hallucinations/or whatever that drug did...AGAIN!! So I guess it's similar, but with emotions too. ? Hey, now that I think of it , Joopie was talking about smelling things from her past that no one else could smell. Does that mean smell is memorized and brought back too?? This blueprint idea is very interesting....Can you share more on this..or refer a website?
I feel like I am going thru postpartum depression again (I only had it with my first)....it's very odd. Hopefully, it will pass quickly. I've still got 4 more days to go!
Thankyou for the help!!

Oh no no no....that's of the things i am learning, is self talk--were so use to and conditioned to recognize our faults and weaknesses first that we are literally "punishing " our bodies. this one was hard for me.....i used to wake up every morning "ughhh i'm tired and try to wake up."
About a year ago, I started saying "Wow...I can't wait to wake up and start the day." I don't recall at what point but i am not apprehensive to wake up early in the morning anymore unless i have stayed up real late or something........so you deserve to tell yourself, "wow...i did it and i did it well."
i'm such a sucker for how our cells think and act.......gosh, i don't have any specific references that talk about detox symptoms. my thoughts were based on many sites and converstaions with different healers and people in the metaphysics/alternative realm.
back to basics--kinda reminds me of elementary school--PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK.

I've started pep talk to myself---what are some of the things you say to yourself maybe we can exchange affirmations if you'd like.....
a friend of mine does quantum touch and EFT---so my cheap version is, I say "I love myself and I allow myself to heal." then I talk to the "discrepancies" in my body and tell them--"It is okay...you can leave now."
 talkin in raw crop circles,
