first, hello. i'm new to this board. a few years ago I was raw (for about 2 years) then was vegan again for a year. within the last month I've thrown myself back into it and had a wonderful experience today I'd like to share.

I'm a teacher and had a long say at school. It snowed here today and I was cold and tired when I finally got to leave. I ate some raw veggies a co-worker brought in for me (squash, carrots, celery, broccoli) for lunch (she brought them for me in exchange for me bringing some raw tahini dip which she really likes). Something about that combination made me feel a little gross. On my way home I couldn't stop thinking about how much I didn't want to be raw tonight. I just wanted something comforting and I was kind of low on raw food and nothing sounded good to me. When I got home, I remembered my new cookbook was here from Alissa Cohen. I looked through and improvised her palak paneer avocado dip. I was floored. After 2 years of raw, I had never been so excited about a new recipe. I felt 100% better about being raw. It was truly delicious and I felt so satisfied-- which in years past was very difficult for me. Anyway, I feel so wonderful and am fully charged to continue being raw. Also, a few weeks ago when I bought some dates, I could hardly eat one without having my teeth ache. Tonight I ate 4 and felt wonderful. I feel so blessed and wonderful tonight. Thankyou Alissa and thank you everyone for being so supportive and thoughtful. Best wishes everyone!!

Awww, that was a great experience...thanks for sharing it! I'm sure we can all relate to having those days when you just don't want what's in the fridge that's raw, but you were able to find something that truly satisfied you...wonderful!

And welcome to the group! :)

Hi, heart, welcome! That's great! It's funny how once you go raw, you always end up coming back to it. That must mean something! The recipes are really fun, I agree. Congrats on your decision! :D

That's true! It's just what Alissa said on her DVD...it's like once you are raw and you go off, you can never not do it...you always find yourself trying to find your way back to it one way or the other! I guess that's why when some folks decide to leave raw alone altogether, they have to bash it so hard because bashing it and finding a lot of wrong in it seems to make it easier to not aspire to do it! Hmmmm....

Hi and welcome to this board!

Thank you for your story, this means that after years of raw, you can still be amazed by all the lovely combinations and recipes!
And great that your tooth ache went away, aren't dates the best?!? :D

Take care and hope to see you around!

Great encouragement - I am glad that someone else had the tooth issue with eating dates. I am now able to eat them without the ache as well.

I love Alissa's cookbook and because we moved and haven't unpacked all of the boxes yet - (drat!, I keep hoping that the one I pick will be it), so make something good for me. I love the "almost tuna", and the salmon pate and... I could go on!

I too am stiving to get back to 100% - I miss it and certain things that I used to eat cook mess me up!

Welcome and thanks for the info- I have said it before and I will say it again, Alissa's book is like the Home and Garden of RAW- I remember my mom would just go straight to that book when she was in a pickle about what to make for dinner. Now, instead of looking through the many other RAW food books I have, I go straight to Alissa's. Her food is so real to me... very simple and easy. I will try that Avo dip- sounds great!
