I have noticed the past week my appetite seems to be going thru the roof. I do not feel it is a obsessive have to eat issue, but for some reason my food intake has went up. I seem to be eating more. My roomate even noticed it and said something about it. Ususally he complains on how I do not eat enough. (I don't go out of my way to not eat alot, but that is all I am hungry for.) My BMs have been much, much better. Probably not like normal people, but I tend to have one after every time I eat. I ate almost a whole pineapple today!! I have also been drinking baby coconut water and flesh. That really seemed to help w/ the BM problem.
Another thing. I have been really craving HOT, SPICY foods. I almost feel like it is a addiction. I like it hot too.
Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening. I cannot seem to get it hot enough.

Hi honeybee joy,
a better appetite is a good thing. A whole pienapple? Excellent! I have this raw friend, who is a tiny person, but can eat a whole watermelon. Once one develops an appettite for raw foods, in particular, for fruit, it is an absolute pleasure to eat a good amount of one thing (also known as mono-eating). I find that this is the most satisfying form of eating.
As far as spicy foods, in my opinion, this is a sign of detox. When your body is clearing some stuff that you ate in the past, it enters your bloodstream, and you might have cravings for it. The best thing to do is to let the body detox.
And yes, spices can be addictive.
An emphasis: Althoug in the longer term it is good to simplify, if you are at the beginning of your transition, it is better to focus on staying raw. If you can simplify, then do, but do not let it stop you from progressing in your transition.
All the best,
Gosia.

Well that makes sense. I was thinking there was something in the spice that my body was needing, but the detox thing probably is it. It reminds me of when I used to smoke. I will just ignore it and let it pass. The mono food think seems to be working the best for me. I have better BM's and I feel more entergetic and more positive. I do agree with you though about how If I have to have something combined, let it be raw and not cooked. I have noticed that I have went to cooked because of that reason.
Thanks for your reply! :D

A bowel movement after every meal was considered normal until the processed low fibre foods of today. When I studied nursing we learned that eating actually activates peristalysis (sp? the movement of the colon to squeeze foods out) too.
Many natural health advocates today still say and BM after each meal is normal.
Slow transit time through the bowel is a key factor in bowel cancer - the faster your body gets what it needs and sends it on the better (within reason). Old rotting food sitting there is not healthy at all
Cheers,
Sheryl

I like spicy food, I don't feel it is detox. Nothing wrong with liking things hot and spicy. I live by habaneros, they are my official raw food icon.

Sheryl, I agree with you. My kids when younger babies/toddlers would have
a bowel movement after every single meal. This lastest till about age 2-3
or so.
I'm sure it had to do with the introduction of more cooked processed foods. Typically they go once a day, but sometimes more still depending on
what they have been eating.
young coconuts are known to clean out the ol pipes.
