Does anyone know where I can get raw oats? I love making oat cookies and granola bars for snacks!! I've been using steel cut oats and didn't know they weren't raw. No wonder I felt sleepy after eating it!! Nicole

Alissa sells some on her site. It seems that truly raw oats are only available online.
Check your local health food store/market. If your lucky, they will have a bulk section with raw oats and buckwheat ! I just made oatmeal cookies this afternoon..my favorite !

every oat product out there is guarentteed NOT raw unless it is refridgerated and it say;s sproutable on the label. if the product doesn't specify this, don't assume it is raw. all oats have to go thought a steaming process becazuse they are very fragile to spoilage and to air soon after they are harvested.
I buy mine at": SUN ORGANIC FARM 1-888-269-9888
they have several specify sproutable and y ou will get rawones they have somany don't be condfused just ask for sproutable oats.
hope you can get some i made oatmeal cookies that are beetter then regular sad ones goodluck they must be refridgerated at all times so don't order more then your refridgertator can handle :)

Whole foods bulk organic thick cut oats are raw. One of the bulk guys did some research for me, they simply roll them, no heat, like cold pressed I guess.

Whole Foods, bulk, organic, thick cut, rolled oats are raw. I did some research, they are simply rolled, cold pressed if you may, no heat.

hi boysenberry i called whole foods and they researced for me about that too and said they use steam to roll the oats or they would hold together just break apart even before that at harvest time they steam them immediately unless they are destined for sprouting and should say so on the lable if tye are rawthis is what whle food iin Hermosa beach Californnia told me the one next to the mall. if they didn't steam them they would turn rancid immediately this is what they told me you can call that store they will verify ify ou get the same person hopefully.
you can also call the nmumber above and talk to them about oats.if you want to.
take care :)

Interesting we should get such opposite replies. I understand that many manufacturers do steam their oats. If it is true that it needs to be steamed for rancidity purposes, do you know how Alissa is able to get them raw? I think I will do some more intensive research and get back to you all... :)

That would be awesome of you to research, Boysenberry! I've been trying to find out the same info, because I also love oats and would love to be able to buy them at Whole Foods. I'd be very interested to know how Alyssa keeps her raw oats from going rancid.
Are they steamed to where enzymes are destroyed? If I'm 100% raw, will eating Whole Foods bulk oats prevent me from reaping the 100% raw benefits?
Thank you so much! I look very forward to hearing what you find, and I'll let you know if I find anything, too.

You likely got different answers at different Whole Foods stores because they likely use different suppliers, particularly if you are in very different parts of the country. Hmm. could I have used the word different in that sentance anymore? I hope that makes sence!

I bought some online last week, but am interested, how do you actually prepare them and what do you eat with them?
Need tips please! :D

I bought some bulk at Wild Oats(or maybe Whole Grocer-they are next door to each other) and was able to sprout them...didn't notice what the lable said.

What is the difference between raw oats and the oat groats at Whole Foods (these are what I have been getting)?
Are oat groats raw?

I put the oats in a glass jar & soak with water overnight (though it's usually ready sooner), then add chopped walnuts. Occasionally when I'll also add cinnamon & agave.
