I live South Minneapolis I've been raw since Sept 17, 05.

I live in South Minneapolis too. I go to Ecopolitan to eat and for the free lectures on Tuesday nights. There is a raw vegan doctor there that lectures on health and nutrition every Tuesday night from 6:30-9 pm.

My first lecture was about fats. The second was a film called Super Size Me. They show films when the doctor is out of town.

I noticed from one of your postings that you like Ecopolitan.

Hi Karen, I saw your post on the board and thought I would reply and say a quick hello as I am new to raw food and this board too. I live in Bloomington MN it's nice to know there are people in my local area that are embarking on the same raw life style. Look forward to chatting. Take care. Karen :)

Any Twin Citians still following this thread?

I'm new, new to raw (and not 100%). I've been dining at Ecopolitan occasionally--love their raw smoothies and lasagna. Did anyone attend this past Tuesday's lecture at Eco? If so, how was it?

karenisraw
02-01-2006, 08:55 PM
Debrah,

I attended this last Tuesday's lecture and it was fabulous. It was Dr. T's birthday and he had a raw cake with candles on it.

He talked about EcoRawLiving, an obviously eco-raw friendly lifestyle and how to live it. He talked about eating out and eating with non-raw friends and family, where to draw the line if you can't help yourself make a SAD choice in foods, etc. things like that.

Next week is the recording of electromagnetic pollution.

I hope to see you there Debrah,

K :p :p :p :D :p

Oh Karen, I'm doubly sorry I missed the lecture and the raw cake! I wish they had mentioned that when I called the restaurant to inquire about the lecture.

But a big thank you for filling me in.

Right now I'm most interested in general raw eating/raw lifestyle topics.

Have you tried any of the other services they offer at Eco?

karenisraw
02-01-2006, 09:43 PM
You can buy deydrated crackers and other baked goods and to go orders. Bulk foods, books, supplements, coconut oil, olive oil, pink salts, juicers and other appliances, clothes, infrared sauna, chiropractic, colonics, raw beauty spa, massage, blood tests, dentistry, and I think Dr. T. was half joking, half serious when he said he might start a CFA class (Cooked Foods Anonymous).

Everyone thought that was funny.. :p :p

They also have a potluck monthly.

I hope to see you there. I don't know what February's lectures are except the electromagnetic pollution lecture next Tuesday.

I like going to the Ecopolitan as well. I've been off and on raw for about a year.

I used to live in Minneapolis, just one block from the Eco and was a frequent customer but I have since moved back to the Twin Ports. I try to make it down there whenever I can. How is the new menu? I've seen it on the website and it looks awesome. I remember back when they were first testing the new entrees.

How long have you all been customers? Because if its been awhile I probably have seen you around.

Hi! I have only been an Ecopolitan customer for about one month. The food is sooooo goood. I learned my lesson today. When I get a craving, GO TO ECOPOLITAN>>>> They'll fix you right up! (I got sick when I went to Wendy's and had a ceasar side salad and a bowl of chili).

I probably haven't seen you around then since it's only been a month. They have great lectures on Tuesday nights.

Well, they definitely know my face at Ecopolitan. :)

I'm going to have to miss tomorrow night's lecture again, too bad.

I'm curious what Dr. T's views on food combining are. Does anyone know whether he has ever addressed that?

karenisraw
02-06-2006, 07:57 PM
Debrah,

I am not going to make the lecture tomorrow night either. I have to work. I have not heard Dr. T. talk about food combining yet but I have only gone to 4 lectures so far. Usually after the lecture he has a question and answer time. You could ask him then.

See you soon.

He has talked about food combining in the past. He mentioned that Francis Moore Lappe was a proponent of food combining in her first edition of Diet for Small Planet. In her second edition she became more skeptical, and in her third edition she had completely changed her mind. And rightly so. The idea that we should food combine is based on the idea that most plant foods are not "complete proteins" which is misnomer. All foods have every essential amino acid and the idea that we need to food combine to get an adequate amount of each is rather redundant since people are going to eat a variety of food in a day's time anyway. So its not really something that we need to worry about.

I am fairly new to raw as well ... and glad to see that there are others here in the Twin Cities! I have yet to go to Ecopolitan, but I am on vacation this week -- with nothing planned -- so I am hoping to get over there one day.

I should look into the lectures as well - it would be nice to meet others of like minds!

Hey Thx,
Thanks for your response. I'm not worried about the protein issue either.
That has been debunked, at least to my satisfaction.

What I'm talking about is the idea that, for instance, it's best to eat fruits separately from starches, and that sort of thing. There's a food combining chart that's been posted on this forum a couple of times that details this. I'm wondering if Dr. T and the Ecopolitan staff subscribe to any of this. Based on menu items, I'd say no, but I'm curious.

THX-1138
02-08-2006, 01:17 AM
Well, most major non-fruit based item on the Eco's menu has greens, vegetables, fruits, and a nut, seed, or some sort of fat. For example the baby green salad has baby field greens, green peppers, cucumbers, black olives and is often garnished with apple, with the house dressing (olive oil, lime juice, sea salt, cracked pepper). The Strawberry Marinara, for example, has Spinach, Zucchini spirals, Marinara sauce, Onions, Walnuts, Black Olives, Strawberries, Olive oil, and Balsamic Vinegar. So to my knowledge, Dr. T doesn't advise against it. His method of evidence is generally two fold. First, does the objective scientific evidence or empirical evidence support the idea, and does such an idea concur with what nature has devised for us. One may argue that just about all correct hypothesis' meet both of these requirements.

What did ya have?

Buckley
02-08-2006, 08:18 PM
I had the taco salad. And it really tasted like taco salad! Now ... I have been vegetarian for about 6 years -- but the lentil mixture (which I suppose was suppose to be like meat) had the exact taste of taco seasoning ... and a great texture. And the "sour cream" made of I am thinking cashew nuts was awesome! I also bought some crackers and rawnola to take home. Can't wait to go back!!! I think that I convinced my DH to go on Sat. night -- given that they have a wine bar there! (One of our hobbies ... but we need to learn more about organic wine.)

THX-1138
02-08-2006, 09:25 PM
When I was going there they were still testing the taco salad and the final recipe is very different from its earlier inceptions. In fact, they never had the lentil mix at all until recently. You should definately try every item on the menu, its worth it.

Hello!!! I am in powderhorn park..... Loving raw.... my kids like it too!
But i tell ya... I am lucky that i have enough FOOD STAMPS to get the produce i need....

us po' folk cant dine at the ecopolitain...

so i can't meet up with anyone there - at least now ( well, maybe for a smoothie ;) )

But if anyone will hook up with me - it would be great , because its hard to go to coffee shops, or somewhere with my toddler because he doesn't understand.... What? I cant give your kid some cheetos??? I hate that!

Ugh.

So lets hook up!!!

Debrah

Ecopolitan is a bit pricey, no doubt about that.

Have you considered hooking up with the raw potluck that meets at Eco? You could bring something; I'm sure no one would care how big or small or plain or fancy it was.

In any event, don't let money prevent you from finding your people.
Perhaps you could hook up with some peeps at one of the co-ops that has seating. Maybe you could post a flyer at a co-op soliciting other raw moms or raw-curious moms :D

or Dads!

Hi Brandy and Debrah,

We could meet at the Tuesday night lectures. Doctor T is out of town for a few weeks but he has some other lecturers substituting for him. This coming up Tuesday night is a film about animal rights. It is a PETA film. If you want, you can to to the website to see the schedule for march Tuesday night lectures.

Hi Brandy it's nice to meet you, yes the Ecopolitan can be a bit pricey but well worth it I must admit. My DH took me there tonight for my Birthday, bless his heart. I had the raw Tostadas and they are to die for and DH had the raw ravioli I got to taste a little of that dish and that was also very good. It's nice to know that there is a raw restaurant in the Twin cities that isn't all that far for me to drive when I feel like eating out. You'll have to keep in touch. Take care Karen

Unless they have become non-profit since I left, to my knowledge they are a for profit business. Dr. T, however, does use alot of the profit for non profit ventures. But I don't think the Eco is technically a nonprofit.

Hi Lynnz,

I just realized that the Tuesday night schedule is not on the website, but on the e-newsletter that you can subscribe to on his website. I have copied the schedule for the next couple of weeks. Here it is:

March 14 - Maria Rieke, an advanced student of Shiatsu and massage, will discuss her philosophical perspectives and unique dilemmas that confront students of healing arts. She will demonstrate Shiatsu techniques and points with willing members of the audience. Don't miss this opportunity for honest musings that some health practitioners ponder, with the fresh insight of a newcomer to the field.

March 21 - Lisa Albers, RN and Pam Gillet, RN - Hormones In Harmony

The Lecture is sponsored by Raw Beauty Eco-Spa. To see their special treatment of the month, click here

Hot flashes, PMS, fatigue, depression, insomnia, migraines, hair loss, mood swings, foggy thinking, weight gain, etc. All these symptoms can be a result of hormonal imbalance and/or adrenal fatigue. Learn what you can do to bring your hormones into balance, leading to the freedom of better health. Lisa Albers and Pam Gillet are both registered nurses of 20 and 30 years respectively. They have a wide range of experience in the health care field including: critical care, pediatrics, home care, geriatrics, epilepsy research, and Director of Nursing for a home care agency. They have extensive experience in aromatherapy and herbal therapy. They will present information based on research and studies performed by doctors and scientists worldwide.

March 28 - The Compassionate Living Film Series - 'Eating' by Michael Anderson featuring Dr. Ruth Heidrich; This stunning video uncovers many facts that the meat and dairy industries do not want you to know (90 minutes, read more below).

April 11 - The Compassionate Living Film Series -McLibel (read more below).

I will probably see you at the lecture Tuesday night then if you are going too.

Hi! I myself do not have an infrared sauna. I use the one at Ecopolitan. They have one in the basement with showers. It is $15.00 per session for patients. I wish, I wish, I wish I could have my own infrared sauna. They are soooooo good for you. If I did have one I would let everyone come over and use it and then have a raw potluck afterward. cdepalmer,

Dr. T said that if eating out with family and friends that are not raw is going to be such a problem that you would choose to avoid it, then he would say to go ahead and eat cooked if that helps. He said it is not worth avoiding family and friends because of it. He eats cooked occasionally when visiting his family and when unable to find raw on travel. His family is vegetarian though so he was probably not thinking about the meat issue.

I would love to meet when you are in town. Email me and let me know when you are coming. We'll go to Ecopolitan.

Hey I'm from the twin cities as well.
I currently live in East St. Paul and I've sadly never been over to all the nice vegetarian/vegan restuarants in Minneapolis yet. I don't have any friends that will eat healthy with me so I just end up going with them and getting the same old boring salads.
I'm just starting to eat Raw so we'll see how this goes. I've been vegetarian for most of my life and organic when I can afford it.
Anyhow.. hi!

Hi rainstorm, it's nice to meet you and welcome. I was just at the Ecopolitan tonight to see Paul Nison there he was doing a lecture. Anyway I happend to meet karenisraw ( I am not sure if you have noticed her posts here) from this forum which was nice. It was just by chance, Paul asked us to write our email address down if we wanted to get his email newsletter and Karen noticed my email and name here were the same. Anyway Karenisraw came over at the end of the lecture to introduce herself. I have read so many of her posts and to finally meet someone from this board was really nice. So since this past weekend I have met 3 people from this board YAY!!!!. Anyway if you're ever interested maybe we could all meet and have dinner or something, just a thought. Once again welcome.
Take care.

Hello Everyone!!

I'm 18 years old from St. Paul. It's cool to see other people on here from the Twin Cities and that have gone to Ecopolitan!!! I've eaten there a few times, gone to lectures, potlucks, a cooking class, Paul Nison lastyear and then again lastweek. I've been a vegetarian for a few years and raw on and off, but now I know I really need to work on 100% raw and stick to it. It looks like there's some great people & encouragement on here!!

I've been looking into joining this site & doing the 30-day raw challenge for awhile, but haven't until today and I noticed that I joined about a year ago just never posted.

I hope everyone here is doing great!! I look forward to getting to know all of you.

-Amanda

Hi amanda,

I was at the Paul Nison lecture last week too. I was probably next to you and didn't even know it. I am going again tonight. I met karenbeel (a regular on RFT) last week at the lecture. It was fun. We are all thinking of getting together and reserving the big table at Ecopolitan sometime in the near future.

The lecture was pretty good! For being so successful in business Tom Gegax seemed to be a pretty nice, humble guy.. I guess it has to do with "karma" and you reap what you sow... everything does :)

I got to meet Karen! :) Hopefulluy we can get to know eachother better on here.

Hi,

Yes Tom Gegax (chairman, CEO of Tires Plus) gave the lecture. After the lecture I had dinner with Tom and Dr. T and some of the other regular lecture attendees. It was great. Tom is close personal friends with Al Gore so I had a heyday talking to Tom about Al Gore's book, "Earth in the balance" and sustainability in business. I told Tom I was going to order a case of the books and mail them to CEO's with a letter basically asking them to get the clue about sustainability. Tom thought that was funny and a great idea. He high fived me.

I met Amanda, very adorable cutie pie. The sweetest person you would ever want to meet. I met her mother also. It was a great time.

Hope you can all make it to the other lectures.

I am new to eating raw (two weeks) althought I was vegan before. I would love to meet someone in my area. My boyfriend & friends are all meat eaters so I feel kind of desperate sometimes to talk with someone who's on the same page. I live in Robbinsdale and work downtown.

Hi lovebeingvegan it is a little tough when you are raw and everyone close to you isn't, I am the only raw one in my household and also when it comes to my friends too and your right it is nice to be able to talk to someone that is in the same boat as you. I have met a couple of people here from the board so it was nice to be able to connect I met karenisraw and also Kmik. Have you eaten at the Ecopolion at all?, I know Karen and I had chatted about meeting there. It's a really nice restaurant. Anway welcome to raw and hope to chat to you soon. Take care.

Hey!!

I just wanted to let everyone know again that Ecopolitan is a great place to go to! Their food is delicious.

I met Karenbeel tonight it was very nice meeting you!

Dr. T. spoke on how our the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle/optimal-raw food diet affects people. As well as alot into genomic-medicine to find out what sort of diseases could befall you according to you genes by a gene test. It was very informative. He's very intelligent and encourages me to want to study more! I should've took notes... what he said was really right on and to the point. He gave animals in nature as an example. Animals don't (naturally) eat cooked foods, animals don't go to doctors like many humans do and they have much better capability to fight disease & heal much more rapidly. Our body's are so wonderful if only we treated them right we would all feel so much better. It's so crucial that we all strive to eat & live better.
It's hard at times, but hopefully we can use this forum to encourage one another.

Anyways I wont ramble on,
I hope everyone is doing well :)
