View Full Version : RAW enough?

I feel as though I am not raw enough, or natural enough.

I am 100% for nine days now - I feel good - but very emotional lately. Not the topic though - :)

After my shower this morning, I didn't want to use Olay moisturizer (sp?). I instead used a wedge of lemon on my face. I have been finding it to be a real softener after I squeeze it for juice and it gets on my hands. So I decided to try it on my face. It makes a really good astringent/toner.

What have you changed in your transition to raw? I want to know everything. I feel that this 90 day challenge should not just be about food, but about life, and day to day uses of life.

Thanks.

I use no paper products, metal utensils, plastic etc.

I use no cosmetics, soaps, detergents, cleaners, cleansers, either.

I use honey on my face, body and hair, lemon as an astringent or hair conditioner, also olive oil.

I use only vinegar and hydrogen peroxide as all my cleaners in my home.

I use a ceramic disk in my washing machine and dryer balls in my dryer.

I use no chemicals of any kind.

I use ceramic knives, and bamboo plates, no metal utensils except the blades in my cuisinart and Vita Mix, although I am going to a hand crank blender, and my hubby and I are buying an island in Fiji, so we can live off the land.

we are nudists, and sun bath every day, we do not use heat in our home, we use a far infrared sauna most days, and a hot tub.

we use lake water to water our organic gardens, we have 11 of them.

We grown most of our own foods.

We have nut trees, berry bushes, several veggie gardens, and fruit trees.

We use only natural fabrics in our clothes and our home.

We drive only one day into town.

We weed our gardens, and use no fertilizers or chemicals.

We have gravel in our driveway, not pavement.

we don't buy anything that we can make.

We sweep instead of vaccuum, we sew, dehydrate our foods, we do not buy anything packaged, not even raw foods.

We don't cut our hair, pluck or shave anything.

We live as close to nature as possible.

We sleep with our animals.

We use our shower water to water our gardens.

We wash our dishes by hand and we use only honey.

Can't think of anything else, but basically, we attempt to live as far away from the SAD chemical laden world as possible.

Oh, yes, we compost all of our waste food, we burn our paper and cardboard, we don't use any plastic or glass, but if we did we would then toss it, so we only throw away about 1/2 can of garbage a month.

Very impressive. When you use lemon as a conditioner, how do you use it? What I mean is, do you juice the lemon or do you take half a lemon into the shower with you and rub it in your hair? So the honey you just rub on and rinse off, right? Sorry if I sound naive, just curious. Will be trying this this weekend. What about deodorant?

I switched my deoderant. I used to use Secret and now use a deoderant stone. I also splash some apple cidar vinegar under my arms after my shower.

I don't use commercial perfumes anymore. I've been using Lavender oil.

I use honey as a face and body wash. I still use commercial shampoo, though. I make sure it's not tested on animals, no animal ingredients, mostly natural ingredients.

I don't use pads very much anymore. I bought http://www.divacup.com and it works very well. it's reusable so there's not much going to landfills.

i don't use harsh toothpastes anymore. I use the all natural, not tested on animals, no animal ingredient ones. I've also been using castille soap on occasion, too.

if i need to exfoliate, i'll use baking soda.

i use baking soda to wash my clothes.

i know there have been some other changes, but i can't remember them all.

(i thought of some more.)

i've cut back on my makeup, hardly use any anymore.

i've started cleaning the house with vinegar, so i don't have to use chemicals.

deoderant is apple cider vinegar just rubbed on, nothing else.

honey just one teaspoon in the palm of my hand and use on face, another tsp on hair, and more on body, it will not lather, so you do have to realize this, it feels weird, but it is great leaves skin so smooth, especially with the olive oil mmmmmmmmm very nice.

Again, our goal is to be as natural as possible.

we still use some electricity and running water, although not near as much as we used to, which was still way less than most people.

Our goal is to live off the land, no running water or electricity no clothes, no preparation of food, just pick and eat, we eat like this in the summer months, and we wear hardly any clothes, nor shoes, etc.

We are doing our best to get back to the nature.

But, right now we still use the internet, phones, electricity, a house, carpeting etc.

If you're feeling emotional, try less fruit for a while. I found I'm over-emotional when eating 50/50 fruits/veggies. If I go to about 30/60/10 fruits/veggies/fats, my emotions stabilize a bit.

I'm having some emotional days right now too Christine.

Most of my "naturalization" came before going raw.

-we use homeopathic & natural health care
-My DD is completely unvaccinated
-we use no paper products, instead we use cloth napkins, cleaning rags, moon pads & a dive cup and FBW's
-we use no cleaning products except for laundry detergent but that is natural & biodegradable. RP, tell me more about the ceramic disk you use to wash your clothes with?
-we use dryer balls
-we scent the house with essential oils
-90% of my DD's toys are cloth or wood.
-my DD was an unassisted home birth
-we grow only natural, location appropriate (prairie) plants and organic produce in our garden
-we compost & recycle obsessively
-I wash my dreads with olive oil-peppermint soap made by a local WAHM who grows the herbs in her own garden organically
-I wash my face with olive oil & use a natural brush to brush my skin
-I use aloe vera & licorice root to calm my roseacea
-I've never shaved my legs

I know there are more. I love the picture RP draws of living off the land on an island in Fiji. I have a dream of living off grid in a yurt with a forest surrounding me & a big pond to swim in every day (& ice skate on during the winter).

I will definitely try this - thanks. Would that be just sweet fruits or all including tomatoes, etc.

What's a dive cup/moon pads / where do you find them?

-my DD was an unassisted home birth

My son was C-Section - the doc said "his head is 14" around and his shoulders are going to break your hipbones"

-I wash my face with olive oil & use a natural brush to brush my skin

I have heard of a natural brush more than once now. Where would I find something like this? What is it?

Thanks for your reply. It's really good to know of the different things that are out there for my health/life/natural state.

here you go. diva cup is inserted like a tampon except it's made out of different material and it's small and cup-shaped. catches the blood like a tampon does but the tampon absorbs other things in you besides the blood, so the cup is a lot better. you don't have to worry about toxic shock syndrome, either. it takes a little getting used to as far as inserting it, but once you've got the hang of it, it's great!

Question for raw priestess, how do you use your shower water to water your plants?

wow! so inspiring! raw preistess, you are my idol! That is to say, you are living my dream. I am so happy to read about your eco lifestyle!

it's funny, because this morning i decided, i am going to keep a list of all the waste i produce daily in my raw journal. just thinking that helps me produce less!

but back to the emotions, i am about a week back on raw, and my emotions were so bonkers today, i could not even think about the landfill, i have felt like hanging by such a thin thread. but my goal is to produce no trash.

in the past week i have noticed that while i used to maybe take a paper plate from the office kitchen to put my food on, now i will opt for no plate, or i wash the same one over and over.

no doubt, eating this way brings us closer to nature. it is inevitable. ;)
