No, it's not me in a pickle. I'm doing fine, thank goodness.

I'm thinking about what is in a real pickle.

Here's the story: Shopping in Wegman's, walked past their pickle barrel and thought "Why not? It's raw, after all." I bought one and, immediately after getting home, I ate it.

Now, I've had these pickles (sour, kosher dill) from the same barrel many many times before, before going raw. Always loved 'em. But this time, after a few bites I realized that my mouth was filled with a truly terrible metallic taste. Ugh! It was awful. Believe it or not (and this shows I've still got a ways to go in the food consciousness dept.!) I finished the whole thing, hoping with each bite that it would miraculously start tasting great, the way it used to.

That didn't happen. The metal taste was so strong. I mentioned this later to my father and he rushed to the computer, did a bit of research and then said "Well, pickles are often made with ALUM. I bet that's what you tasted."
Aluminum. That's exactly the taste, like I was licking aluminum foil.

I feel in awe of this change in me, in awe of the body, and I feel like I have super-powers :p TASTE-BUD WOMAN! (Cape flapping in the breeze!) Can detect a single molecule of toxins, AMAZING!

Please share any tales of your developing super powers!

Wow what a great story Melissa! Thanks so much for sharing! I don't have any miraculous tales to tell such as that but I have noticed in general that my taste buds are way more sensetive and alert than they used to be before going raw! It's like suddenly getting eagle vision or hearing as well as a dog etc.

I did something like that a few weeks ago. When I get real upset I use to go to KFC and get a few chicken strips. Well, that happened, I was very hurt and upset and got my chicken strips. I bit into the first one and got this brine taste. I called up KFC telling them that all I could taste was salt that it burned all the way down. I was told to come back the next day and replace them because they ran out that night. I did this and took one bit again. The same thing happened. My mouth burned like it was on fire. I spit it out and all at once it hit me like a two by four against my head. All the years that I would eat KFC I loved it, I was eating pure poison. Now everytime I go by KFC I get sick to my stomach ( thank you RAW).

What I've noticed is that I cannot stomach the smell of fast food anymore, so I cannot even fathom the thought of tasting it - and this is after only 3 months of being anywhere from 90 - 100% raw.

I have totally noticed this!

Eating mangoes lately is nirvana! They have all these nuances that I never picked up on before. They literally taste like a Hawaiian breeze lately--sort of a combo of floral, coconut, pineapple and spice!

I've also noticed that the times I've eaten cooked foods that I can pick up on the oil. It makes most things, especially sauteed stuff, taste slightly rancid.

Aluminum, ack! Metal taste in the mouth is so gross! I notice that things taste more vibrant and strong when I'm juicing, whether it be a fast or just in addition to eating raw. It's amazing how things taste so much better since being raw- I have been having really juicy grapefruits with agave nectar on them for dessert every night and they are the best dessert I have ever had!

Yep! I had the same experience after I gave up my favorite ranch dressing. It was the last thing for me to give up and a few weeks later I tried it b/c I was out of avacado's and it tasted horrible! Just like metal too! Yuck.

Isn't it strange how you tastes and smells change?.

I've noticed it with several things. I think most startling to me was tasting butter again. I haven't had butter for ages - but did so recently. It left this greasy, sticky awful feeling in my mouth. Took forever to get rid of it.
As a former caffeine addict - I now can't tolerate the bitter taste of caffeine. It's a very distinctive taste to me know - funny, I never noticed before.
I can sometimes taste the metal from knifes and spoons. I try to eat with wood utensils whenever possible. But a sharp metal knife is sometimes necessary for some fruit and sometimes it leaves a metallic flavour.

So I had kosher pickles yesterday..........the problem is, I'm reading this post today and shared this post with my sister. EEEEEEEEEkkkkkk.

My sister yells out with urgency "Throw those pickles away right now!" and I turn to her confused "But not the chocolate ganache torte cake?" She replied defensively "No!"

luv,
Linda

I can no longer take in anything salty. And to me, everything has too much salt. I can really go the rest of my life without ever having salt.

The smell of fast foods also bother me. I can just smell the grease that goes into all that nonsense. Yuck!!
