Hi Nini and RawJoJo,

I am in Iberia, Ohio...which is one hour north of Columbus!

Nini, are there any good places to go for raw in Dayton? My husband and I are going to be in Dayton for an expo in Feb. Glad to meet you!

RawJoJo, have you taken your class with Alissa yet in CA? I am thinking about doing the chef training in Illinois next week. Glad to meet you, again!
Did you ever go to the raw food potluck that was up in your area...I think they meet on the last Monday's of the month?

Thanks for replying! Maybe sometime we could all meet somewhere and have a raw meal!

Have a great day!

Warmly,

Pansy (Pam Striker) :)

It would be great to all get to meet. I would love that!
To answer you questions:
I leave tomorrow a.m. for Laguna for the training so NO I have not taken it yet but will be very shortly and I'm not sure what potluck you are talking about but we have a local one here that meets once a month. AND YES, I do go to that one every month. Let me know if you go to IL and do the training, sounds great!

Have a good one!

The salt water is soooooo gross but I did gag that down :( . Didnt do anything for me as far as a BM. Waited for like an hour and nothing happened so I drank a cup of senna tea with a little maple valley maple syrup and off I went to the potty. I am going to try adjusting the salt but if it doesnt work tomorrow, I am just drinking regular water and do an am/pm senna tea.
I was gagging down the lemonade the past few days but after reading the Master Cleanse booklet I tweeked my drink a bit. I double up on the drink when I make it so it counts as 2... 4TBS of lemon juice, 1/8tsp cayenne, 2TBS maple syrup (bc I am trying to lose weight) and 2 cups of cold water. After I juice the lemons I add about 1/2TBS of the pulp. Totally makes a difference cold and I actually enjoyed the drink today.
I started a thread called MC Help....we can totally support each other there!!

Hey Ohio Folks,

My mom lives in Akron and wants to go raw but is concerned about being able to tolerate the winter on a raw diet. She is 65 and has severe rheumatoid arthritis so circulation is a constant challenge for her. Here are my questions:

Are there any foods you add to your diet in the winter?

And, have any of you had any unique physical effects of being Raw in Winter?

I really want to convince her to go raw, so any advice here would help a lot!

Hi Ohioians!

In case you didn't hear, I just got back from Alissa's this past month. I just wanted to let all of you Ohio folks know that I will soon be scheduling classes all around the Ohio area. If any of you are interested in attending or getting some info on the classes just let me know. I will post something on this board when I finally make out a schedule but in the mean time pm me and let me know who, if any, of you are interested. It will help me to pick a few more locations! See you soon!

luinla: I just sent this to my sister in Conn and my friend in New Mexico who are 'freezing' all the time.

HOW CAN WE STAY ON A RAW FOOD DIET IN A COLD CLIMATE?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions about eating raw. People commonly believe that without a bowl of cooked food on a chilly winter day they would not be able to stay warm. I know many persons who quit the raw food lifestyle because they were afraid that they would become too cold during the winter.

Let us take a closer look at this situation. Would a quarter pound of rice physically keep a 160 lbs body warm? In order to get warmed by it, one would have to fill a bathtub with warm rice and sit in it for 20 minutes.

So why do we feel warmer after consuming cooked food?

A hot meal, a cup of coffee or an ice-cold shot of vodka warm our body in the same manner. When any impure substances get into our blood through the walls of the intestines, they irritate our adrenals the endocrine glands located above the kidneys. The adrenals immediately begin to produce epinephrine, norepinephrine and a variety of steroid hormones. These hormones stimulate our sympathetic nervous system, which is why we feel awake at first. They also force our heart to beat faster and to pump larger amounts of blood through our body, which makes us feel warm. This feeling doesn't last long and we pay a high price for it. After 10-15 minutes our body gets exhausted from performing extra work, the heart requires rest, the nervous system becomes inhibited, and we feel tired, sleepy and even colder than before. However we remember only the feeling of getting warmer after eating cooked food and repeat such stimulation again and again. This harmful practice wears the body out and by the end of the winter many people feel exhausted and depleted.

Winter after winter of eating quantities of cooked food doesn't help the human body to withstand cold weather better. On the contrary, weakened adrenals eventually won't be able to work properly even at warm temperatures. For example, most older people feel cold even in the middle of the summer. Wool socks and sweaters become necessity to them. Another reason why it is hard for many of us to tolerate cold temperatures is because eating a cooked food diet severely impairs our capillary circulation. According to Dr. Alexander Zalmanoff, author of "Sacred Wisdom of Human Body" (Paris, 1961) 80% of all blood in any human body is located in the capillaries and only 20% in arteries and veins. Tiny capillaries get clogged easily by unnaturally large particles of cooked food, and the blood no longer circulates adequately.

If you truly want to feel warm during the cold season, a raw food lifestyle is inevitable choice for you. During your first "raw" winter you may experience some cold due to the weakened adrenals, so put on an extra sweater, take a hot bath, or do some pushups. If you will continue staying raw, your adrenals will rest and recover, your capillary circulation will improve, your nervous system and your heart will naturally strengthen without any artificial stimulation.
In a year you will tolerate cold better than ever before. My family is going now through our ninth "raw" winter. We do not feel any discomfort from cold. We jump in icy-cold mountain rivers year round for enjoyment. In fact that is how we celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve. We always sleep outside under the rain or snow. Sergei, my son, goes snowboarding sometimes wearing only shorts. My daughter Valya never wears socks. Igor, my husband, loves to take snow baths. We strongly believe that staying on a raw food diet has helped us to feel comfortable in any weather and not to feel the cold. http://rawfamily.com/faqs2.htm

Hi aasyah,

There is a health expo this Sat. Feb. 11 that Louanne and I am going to be at in Walbridge, Ohio. It is from 10-3 p.m. at Lagniappe Banquet Hall, 401 Main St. Louanne will be there with raw food and I will be there with Whole food farmacy (raw whole food). Maybe we will see you there!

Pansy,
I just found out the potlucks this month are tomorrow and on the 26th. I really don't know of a raw restaurant in the Dayton area. If you have a chance to go to Dorothy Lane Market grocery, they have the best salad bar in town. There are 3 of them. They are the only one with organic produce on the bar. Also, it is the only grocery that SW Ohio has approved there organic produce.

Where in Dayton will you be? Next weekend, right? Maybe I can help you.

Hi Nini,

Thank You so much for replying.....you read my mind! I was going to just email and ask you the question you just answered...you clever girl!

Yes, it is next weekend....great memory and thank you for thinking about us!
I am going to call and check on their hours. I think we are going to spend Sunday night. The health expo is on Sunday! Would you be able to come and meet, that would be fun! I think it cost $6.00 to get in though!

Darn, we will miss both potlucks...dag gone it! Louanne Hedberg she is one of Alissa's teacher in Toledo is going to be having a potluck on the 28th and I think we are going to go. We met her today at another expo in Toledo....we were both vendors there. She was very nice and we had a great time!

We will be at the Holiday Inn, near the Dayton Mall..located just off I-75 at exit #44, Miamisburg-Centerville exit. It is the Holiday Inn Holidome on Prestige Plaza.

Let me know and thank you so much,

Pansy ;)

Nini
