View Full Version : Cold?

I have been cold on other diets before, but usually only if I am eating really low calories.

I am soooo cold, but I am eating a TON. I have layers on and cannot warm up, but it is in the low 60s outside, so it's not super cold out or anything. My hands are so cold. Is this something others have experienced in adjusting to raw?

Day #5--Things are GREAT and today everything tastes SO GOOD!!!!

I am truly loving raw. :)

I am sitting under 2 blankets trying to warm up. I think this is something we have to adjust to when we begin eating raw.

Anyone else?

I seem to have gotten over it (or maybe the weather has improved). I went through a phase of being very cold and I was blaming the loss of weight rather than the diet.

oh yes ive been freezing too . im 12 years a vegan , last 5 alot raw . then past five months ive been all raw . but came late december , after it had been in low 20 "s here in michigan for a few weeks i was constantly chilled . so i determined that i had to eat some cooked simple plant matter a few times til i can fully adjust to raw . so i made some brown rice and dry beans , and it warmed me up . but on the down side i found after eating the cooked i wanted to sleep forever , boy did i get tired . it really made me realize how cooked slush bogs you down . so now if i get too cold again im going to try eating only brown rice , it seems to me to be the best option . that or steamed vegi . but i know its only an adjustment move because the tiredness on cooked made a gigantic impression on me . i guess it really hit hard because ive also done a 10 day and 16 day mostly water fast recently so my intestinal tract was cleaning out all sediments and the cooked mush really bogged it down , it felt kind of like throwing wet log on a fire , my cells couldnt burn the wet logs/cooked food completely so it just sat there smoldering in my guts . boy i know the war to convert to raw is tough but i know the alternative is to slowly suffocate your cells and body right off your soul . it aint easy but this is war .

I have read in many places where this is a symptom of detox. I also have experienced this to some extent but I have mostly had the opposite experience where my hands that are usually cold and my feet also are all warm now. just try to stay warm. Bundle up if you have too. Have some warm tea, take some warm baths take a sauna these things help as well. Have a wonderful day

I remember going through this as well. It will pass...it's an adjustment your body is making.

In the meantime, eat warming foods - add spices, ginger, etc to your dressings and prepared raw meals and warm things in the dehydrator if you have one or on the stove just until your finger can rest comfortably in it and not burn.

I am FREEZING all the time but then again, I have a weak liver right now so that addds to it.

Ginger is a great one for the liver to rejuvenate blood flow. Artichoke is another liver tonic. Carrot juice increases bile and assists the liver.

Start every morning with bouncing, jumping around to get blood flow moving.

Evergy work if you know how

Massage hands and feet

Breathing exercises in bed before rising.

I am 2 and a half weeks raw and sometimes cool. I like it though, I feel lighter and cooler and wide awake most of the times.

Thanks for the feedback on this. I am just FREEZING, even my toes! Last night I woke up several times because I was cold, even though I had a heavy comforter over me, and a flannel gown on. So finally I got out of bed and checked the thermostat--72 degrees. So it was me...

I did take a hot bath last night before bed. WONDERFUL. Warmed me up and kept me that way even after I got out. I think I'll make that a nighttime routine, at least until winter is over.

Have a great day, all! I am off to work. :)

Eating spicy things and garlic and stuff never worked for me when I went through my cold phase.

What I did instead was take hot baths, and drink hot water or tea. Drinking something hot used to instantly warm me up. Plus, I would take my food out of the fridge a few hours before eating so as to not have to put cold food in my body. With fruit you can usually soak it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes and that will heat it up nicely.

Also, I bundled up, esp. in transitional weather.

I get cold also so every day now I take a natural kelp tab which has natural iodine. It warms me up. My feet now never get cold.... Iodine feeds the thyroid which makes us warm or cold.

Newyearspromise, I was so cold this summer while detoxing that I slept under FOUR quilts, in the dead of summer. :D I've been hot natured all the days of my life and was in total disbelief that this was happening to me. I ate my lunch in the blistering sun on my stoop at noon, just trying to warm my frozen extremities. But this too shall pass. Somewhere in Alissa's book I read that this is a symptom of detox. Hang in there.

Try putting a slice of ginger root in some water on the stove and warming and simmering that before drinking. Warms me right up. It's good with a little bit of raw honey stirred in before drinking also.

I am slightly less cold today. I keep thinking, "Oh no! Is it because I ate/drank something I shouldn't have??"

I am crazy...all I have had today has been a banana, red bell pepper, goji berries, and water water water.

Maybe my body is adjusting? I doubt it...I don't think you get over detox symptoms THAT quickly, do you?

Probably just warmer outside or something. :)

It took me about 3 months to get past freezing.

Erm.... I heard somewhere once that sleeping with flannel on (or anything on) is not as warmth-producing under blankets as being er.... natural. :o I've spent enough time camping in tents over the years to tell you that this is ABSOLUTELY true in my mind. Besides, we've all got these great, new, hot raw-bodies... let's give our loved ones a little thrill. ;)

I have always been "cold", espeially when I am competing and my bodyfat dips low. Since going Raw I am warming up ! I live in cold NYS and I am no longer wearing socks to bed ! So stick it out and you will adjust to the change ! Cardio is a big help, rebounder , running step cardio something to get the blood moving !

Thank you for the thread. I thought something was really wrong with me. I will be two months raw this week (boy did that ever go fast). The last two weeks I can't seem to get warm some days. Looking back, no wonder I craved spiced foods--they really do help me keep warm. Also like the comments on detoxing being the cause. Hooray!

Keeping "natural" ha ha. Like the hot raw body part. Both funny.

Thanks for all the info.

I agree that being cold all the time will probably pass--but in the meantime, try drinking warm water. This can make a HUGE difference in how you feel temperature-wise. My workplace is usually on the cool side, and so when I find myself too cold I drink some warm water (mix cold and hot from the water cooler), and within a few minutes I can take off my extra sweater and feel really comfortable--or even too hot if my water is really warm!

oh dear. I was always freezing before going raw. I'm just getting colder now (reading this thread made me feel even colder). I'm already under 2 wool blankets, wearing 3 shirts and 2 pairs of pants. Brrrrrrr. It's 68* in the house for pete's sake! A hot bath sounds realy good right now.

Thanks alot for your post, coz with out it I would have never read this one. I too for the last 4 or so weeks have been freezing too  . It's usaully my hands. It's also winter time low 19 to 5 some nights but still I get cold when it's in the 50's sometimes weird??Then about 2 weeks I had some green seedlees grapes and both hands warmed up with in 30 minutes :D . Now it's just my right and some time my feet. It's funny I picked up some grape seed extract took the recommed dosage and nothing happen  waited a couple of hours and took a couple green grapes juiced them and "BAM" 30 minutes later warm hands and feet. I also found that organic maca just before I do a workout warms me up.
I really can't wait for this coldness to pass :)

I live in northern ohio and I work outside all day long, believe me it can get cold out there, but the longer you are raw you will start to notice a big difference in how your body starts to adapt to hot or cold. I don't even notice it if it's cold anymore I just go about my business. It was 10 below wind chill this morning, what a nippie day. I'm 6 feet tall and weight 160 so I don't have a lot of fat to keep me warm, It's all comes from an internal source anyway.
