Hi all

I had my first totally raw day today, and despite a sharp here-again-gone-again headache, I'm feeling good. I have ordered Alissa's book, and it's due to arrive sometime next week, but I have read enough threads here to know that on the raw diet you don't need to calculate or worry about calories - just go with what your body wants, but what do you do when you're not sure what your body wants?
For dinner, I knew I was hungry, but I didn't know what for, so I had a salad with lettuce, zucchini, tomatoes, avo, raisins, mushrooms, raw pumkpin seeds, salsa and some grapes afterwards. I have no idea if that's what my body wanted or needed, so I felt like as if I was fumbling around in the dark trying to figure it out.
Also, as i mentioned earlier, I KNOW we're not meant to worry about calories or amount of fat, but how do you get past it when you're used to tracking and measuring each bit of food before it even goes into your mouth? Do you just ignore that little voice in your head that tells you "are you sure you really want *fill in the blank*? You had *fill in the blank* earlier/are already having *fill in the blank* with this meal" and the little voice eventually goes away?
Thanks in advance! :)

I've found that my little voice is much happier raw because I can tell it, hey we can eat ALL of that if we want. What I have been doing though is having a little of something (a small handful of nuts say) and then waiting for a while to see if I feel like having a little more. I'm snacking a lot but my blood sugar is nice and balanced.

My only question & I guess what I'm not really understanding is that you say after eating you weren't sure if that's what you wanted. Were you still hungry? I find that after I've eaten, regardless of if what I ate was what my mouth was craving, I'm full. I was so full after one of my salads the other day I thought I would bust!

When I find that I am still hungry & I can't decide what to eat I usually make a big green smoothie. That does the trick everytime.

Good luck on your journey

I think after detox your body will "tell" you what it wants by it's cravings. One day I'll want mostly fruit, the next mostly greens, then the day after that I'll naturally crave the other veggies. Some days my body wants a lot of food, the other I'll feel the need to fast. Your body will even itself out. Try not to overanalyze or anything.

I think your at a tough point, your only on day 1 of 100% so as your body is ridding itself of things you recently ate you may also find yourself craving those things YET at the same time wanting greens, fruit etc.. This is when you need to be strong and listen to your body . You will get through the next couple of days but it's so true, old habits die hard.

Satiety,It's feeling satieted after a meal. Your body is very used to bad fats and glucose sources coming in that you will probably have to experiment and find that snack that makes you feel satisfied. For me for it was coconut caramel cookies for the longest time ! Now it's mashed avacado with a mashed banana and cinnamon ! I have been craving that for a week now !

So hang in there, stock your pantry and fridge with good stuff ! keep eating, don't let yourself get to hungry ! That's when that bad SAD monster re-appears ! Go through this awesome site and make some of the great recipes posted so you have variety ! Plus the prep keeps you busy and mind of food !

Heehee ..thanks guys. You're right, I DO tend overanalyze things.
I also had a craving for the starbucks scones and bagels that are sitting on our counter this morning (hubby isn't a raw foodist and refused point blank to even *try* a dejool date earlier today because he was "sure" he wouldn't like it, since he only really like raisins. What could I say, I just shrugged and popped another one in my mouth. Anyway, I deviate ...
I did my best to ignore them and made some buckwheat porridge with raisins, almonds, raw agave, dried cranberries and a chopped up prune. After that, I ate a fuji apple, and, needless to say, the craving passed.
Thanks again for the input, it's great to have a place that I can come to and ask questions.
