.......I'm curious a good diet for someone starting off.

I'm vegan.

I have some doubts about this diet?

A friend is trying to say this diet is dangerous and leads to several health hazards and baldness and losing teeth. is he just misinformed? are there precautions?

Greetings Seamonkey and welcome to the board!

There are right and wrong ways to approach anything. Even a vegan (cooked) diet can pose potential problems if let's say, the person is consuming high amounts of soy-based meat analogues, starch and very little fresh fruits and vegetables. How many people are suffering from much WORSE things eating a typical diet?

As someone here stated, if you search long and hard enough you can find something wrong with just about anything. As you research this lifestyle, you will find good and bad views of it as with anything else. But it's up to YOU to decide whose report you will believe. The best thing you can do is give it a try...30 days as Alissa's 30-day challenge is what inspired this forum. Get her book and do it for 30 days! See how you feel. If you don't like it or if the changes are not favorable, you can always go back to your current diet.

I suggest persuing this forum and reading the various discussions and even the journals of people here who have had quite the opposite of what your friend has implied...reversal of major as well as minor health challenges; thicker, fuller hair; healthier teeth; weight loss; improved digestion and a host of other benefits.

We at Raw Food Talk are here to support you in anyway that we can if you decide this is something you're interested in and would like to find out how to begin eating a raw vegan diet. But please don't expect us to spend a lot of time trying to defend this lifestyle we've chosen or debunk myths and mistruths - per the Mission Statement set forth by the list owner.

First of all, this is not a "diet" per se as "diet" has come to be known as a weight-loss program. In another sense, everything one eats is part of their diet. For me, I've learned to change the wording to "food program" or lifestyle.

Heath hazards eh? Well, I use to attend dinners that were specifically geared towards vegetarians. At these dinners, folk would drink soda and liquor and eat all kinds of sugary foods, breads, pastas ~ all devoid of nutrition.

Now, if you look at raw fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts, etc., they are all filled with nothing BUT nutrients and enzymes. How can this be wrong?

Strangely, I get more people telling me, "Wow, I don't think I could ever eat that healthy." For me, it's rarely a case where people think its an unhealthy way of eating. I just have to work at showing people how EASY and YUMMY it is which really isn't work at all. ;)

Have you bought any raw food books?

There is Living on Live Food, by Alissa Cohen --the owner of this site and forum :D Get the DVD also.

I also like Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods by Renee Loux Underkoffler. This books makes you want to go out and save the world, at least it did for me.

Rainbow Green, Live Food Cuisine by Gabriel Cousens may be useful for you in reading a more medical take on things. I'll be getting his Conscious Eating book soon. I found out my hubby tried to secretly order it for me.

Raw Food Real World is a nice book to have also. Gorgeous food!

Read, dive in and eat and experience bliss!!!

Welcome by the way!!!
