I'm wrestling with this too. I don't think herbal teas would be bad, i.e., rosemary, juniper berry, peppermint, etc. I don't grow these things, so don't have them fresh to brew. Even if I did, once they are "brewed" or boiled, they wouldn't be raw, right?

I'm a 100% raw foodist, but I also see the value of some of the herbal remedies for memory, colds, flu, etc.

Would love more opinions on this...

I have often stated here that I am 100% raw but I lie because I still indulge in hot teas and intend to continue to do so. I feel that if they help me to stay raw then they are doing me more good that harm.

"Colds" and "flu" are detox. Herbal teas can, and often do, assist one in feeling better yet, the question is about "over the counter tea". Actually, not sure what the question is, yet, anything put in boiling water is not raw.

Now! IF there is sun, sun tea can be made and still be raw ~ depending on how high the drying temp of the leaves.

Point is, tea in boiling water is not raw if that is the question. Whether they can assist in healing is another question. Ummmm, what was the question?
:p

you can easily make tea with fresh mint leaves and hot water. just make sure the water does not get heated above 110 degrees.

wouldn't herbal tea be considered raw if we simply dry the leaves and add them to water? the herbs have so many healing properties. i don't think i wouldn't ever give up my herbal teas i have been drinking them for years. i have not had cold/flu or since 1990. i really believe they (herbs) heal and assist the immune system..

I've been wondering about this, too. To date, I haven't been willing to give up my herbal teas, but I have been giving serious thought into how I can make it raw. I have found a couple local places that sell dried herbs for tea and one of them assures me that the herbs are not heated above 110 degrees. . . .and I've bought those and put them in warm water and that worked pretty well for me. . I've also left the herbs to sit in the water in the sunshine and that worked, too.

I've also just placed my heirloom seed order (today!) and order a number of herbs that I can use for tea, so I will see how that goes. . .planning to grow them and then dry in the dehydrator and use for tea. . . .

Anyway, glad I'm not the only one that is wondering about this. . . .I do love my tea and I'm hoping to find a way to drink my tea and have it raw, too:)

Many Blessings,
Karen

depending on how the root or leaves have been dried ---I will soak it in warm water for an hour and then warm below 100 degrees.

It is easy to make fresh herb tea RAW.

All you do is either grow your own herbs, buy fresh herbs, or buy Frontier herbs, and then place in water, and either place in the sun to brew into tea, then you can drink warmed or cool, or place in a dehydrator to warm or warm on the stove, but keep it under 110 degrees.

We wild forage for herb teas daily, and we simply pick them off the bush, dust them off, we don't even rinse (it rainse hard enough here) and plop them into water, let them sit, then warm them to 110 degrees.

Mint is extremely easy to grow, in fact it is so easy to grow, it is best to grow in containers, it is very hard to kill. Camomile grows in the gravel around our home, so we always have tons of it.

there are so many others, rose hips, from rose bushes, dandelion, raspberry leaf, nettle, blackberry, etc.

If you like an herbal tea, I see no reason to not drink it, just warm it below 110.

You can always write or email the company to find out the dehydration temp etc.

But I will bet you that all commerical teas, unless it says otherwise, are heated above 110 degrees when dehydrated or processed.

I think it best to make your own.
