View Full Version : Did any of you nurse a baby while raw?

I am just curious for those of you that nursed while raw. Did you have to change anything? Does a high fruit intake bother the baby?
My baby is 2 weeks old and I have been raw for 3 months so this is a new experience for me. I have been vegan for 9 years but this is the first time I have been raw.

You might wish to pick up Jinjee's ebook on children and raw as she and Storm are raising 4 children. She was raw for two of those pregnancies. I saw her one month after her last, Adagio, and they were both the picture of health. She was nursing him very easily.
You might consider emailing her also with your questions.
I know others here will answer as well.

Thanks, I will have to do that. It is kind of nerve racking doing something so completely different than the norm BUT may baby and myself look better and healthier than ever. If only the pediatrician knew......he he

Yes, I understand. One of my clients had a baby a few months ago and I was talking w/ her about feeing her when she told me the child is about ready to go on cereal. I asked why she wanted to do that. Oh! "I've got some really good, oranic cereal". Yes, but the question is, why do you want to give her something that will create mucus in her lil system when you can be starting her off right with some great health-building fruits and veggies? "Oh! But I've got some really good, oranic cereal". O.k., I hear you. You REALLY want to give her cereal. Her final response: "yes, and I don't know why".
Her father (child's grandfather) takes care of the child and tasted the processed baby food. Asked his daughter if she'd tasted it. Nope! After she did, they began making their own. It's probably cooked yet it's a step or two above processed in jar stuffs.
If you think about it, breastfeeding your child while you are eating the highest level possible can do nothing but good for you child. Think about other mothers who are not receiving anywhere near the nutrients from their "food" as you are. They are often feeding them caffeine through colas and coffee; chips, candy and who knows what else? Then taking vitamins hoping they will give them the nutrients they are missing. You can't miss.

I have been raw since the end of March. When I started raw our baby was 4 months old. At first she had a bit of a runny nose which I assume was from us detoxing. Since then everything has been great. She is our 5th baby and I have nursed the last 4. I have not had any problems nursing her being raw at all. She has been by far the healthiest baby to date! It is wonderful and so healthy for them and for us as well. She is still nursing beautifully at 13 months old.
I hope this helps you.
My daughter is 15 months, and I nursed her raw the entire time- she now eats mostly raw. She has never been sick (though the fact that she hasn't had any vaccinations probably has just as much to do with that as her diet.) I tend to eat mostly veggies, but don't see how a high fruit intake could cause any problems!

i haven't had any problems nursing while raw either. with my son (my first child) he had reactions to certain veggies of all things and I had to eliminate a lot of those otherwise he got colicky. my daughter has some foods that she gets colicky with but as long as I stay away from those she is good also :)
I would see no reason not to eat raw and nurse, you are giving your baby all those wonderful nutrients through your milk!! I have noticed since I have added more greens to my diet though that my daughter seems to be a lot healthier. I wasn't eating to many when she was first born and she had a lot of green stools a sign that she wasn't getting enough even though I was eating a lot of fruit and fat, problem was solved though by adding green smoothies and salads and she is getting soooo big! (also no more green stools) my milk looks rich and thick also now. But this was just my case. I dont think it had anything to do with the amount of fruit I was eating, I just was not eating enough greens. Actually since then I have cut back on teh fat too and she has not had any difficulties and is still a little pudge :)

Thanks everyone! Your posts were extremely helpful to me. My baby is also so extremely healthy. Everyone is amazed at how we both look and at my energy level.
People keep telling me to take it easy and heal but I feel totally healed and energetic. I think a raw food diet really helps with the lack of sleep because I just don't need the amount that I used to need.
The only problems I have is that I have chosen to eat a cooked meal about once every week. It always makes me feel terrible, sleep terrible and it doesn't taste nearly as good as it used to. I guess it is from all of the food I am still making my family. I get to feeling like I am missing out. ;)
Thanks again everyone!!

It's always great to hear some positive breastfeeding stories, especially raw ones :)
