dd (2yo) has the stomach flu. Lots of diarreah. All she wants to eat is water and fruit-but that would seem counterproductive, iykwim? I've run out of bananas, my only known raw cure for this situation. Is there anything else you can think of? Maybe a lot of nuts?

I'm not an expert ... just a mom of 3 kids! I'd say listen to your child's body. It is very natural for animals to 'fast' when they get sick. I know we are not animals ... but not too different, right? If she only wants fruit and water, that sounds great to me. Her body needs to use all the energy it can to fight the cold - it can use more energy if it's not spending it on digesting foods. I'd personally stay away from hard to digest foods like fats (nuts, seeds, etc.). Fruits are the easiest things to digest - esp. watery fruits.
If one of my children were sick, I'd feed them only watery fruits and one kind at a time to ease digestion (ex: only grapes till they were full. Later, only oranges till they were full. etc.).
Hope that helps.

Yes, I agree as long as she is drinking plenty of fluids I would listen to her and give her what her body is craving. Thankfully mine have not been sick in months but I have found that listening my body has made a huge difference in my life, sick or not.

My 2 y/o grandaughter when she returns from her mom's visits she always gets 'runs' diaper rash bad time, dark circles under her eyes. JUNK FOOD AND ALLERGIC TO SOMETHING? I give her carrot juice, water. On the days she goes there, I always run around town to find FRESH BLUEBERRIES and soak them in salt bath and give her as much as she wants. Then she sleeps for hours and hours. Always works!

Do this ~ (although, hopefully this has been resolved by now yet, for the future) ~ get some liquid acidolpholus (refrig. section of hfs) and fresh, unfiltered apple juice. Blend the two. If the problem is caused by bacteria, a couple of doses should do it.

I dont know if you have a juicer, but celery-apple juice is supposed to be good because of the electrolytes in it and such.

The flu has just cruised through our family and I got pnumonia to boot! We all thrived on green smoothies and plain lettuce. We really made a point of listening to our bodies and it worked very well. My kids are 5.5 & 18mo. The duration of our illness' was very short compared to before RAW!

During an illness our bodies need to focus on healing. So you dont want to give foods the body needs to divert lots of enery to digest, think quick exit foods!

all the best!

I wish I had seen this earlier when my kids couldn't function because of the flu. I'll save this for future reference!
