I was previously making a morning smoothie with about 2-3 bananas and 1/2 cup frozen blueberries and maybe 8 oz water. Now I'm hooked on this concoction. It's not a smoothie, it's more like a regular drink. But I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel guilty :o for drinking it because its SO big. But it's wonderful and holds me till lunch.
2-3 bananas
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
2 T raw carob
a sprinkle of stevia
1 T flax oil
about 32 oz water
Do you think this is too much???

That looks similar to what I drink in the mornings except one banana only, no sweetener and no oil. Plus I add a handful of greens to it. I find the green taste gets hidden with the blueberries :D You might want to try that to get your greens. I've had dandelion greens, romaine lettuce and red leaf lettuce and they all work well.

Sounds divine. Beautiful, nourishing ingredients to make your cells happy.
I will answer your question with a question-- does it make your body feel good? :)

Yes it does! (I know I needed the oil. I can feel it effecting me positively.) It is a wonderful drink. I can barely have anything besides it in the morning. I'm hooked. I just don't know why I feel guilty drinking it all. It's makes a full blender! And I drink every drop.
I think I might feel guilty because I know I added extra calories with the carob and oil, even though I KNOW I'm not counting calories anymore.
But does anyone else fill up with a whole quart of food/drink every morning? Or am I overdoing it?
ps: I eat a large mixed greens salad for lunch and/or supper daily. So I am getting my greens. ;)

I make my smoothie using about 5 cups of spinach (puree down to a liquid using a small amount of water), 1 frozen banana, and about a half cup-1 cup of other frozen fruit (like strawberries or blueberries). I think yours sounds similar, but would also add some greens (maybe then you won't feel so guilty! Otherwise, sounds good to me! :D

katrina, if it makes your body feel good then it is fabulous. That is now the only guide you need to go by. Not calories, not grams etc.
These are whole, raw plant based foods. They are different.
Throw that guilt out the window. The only question to ask now is "does this make me feel how I want to feel"
Freedom! :)
Blessings to you!

Katrina - you've stated that you feel great after drinking your WONDERFUL blueberry creation that is what we were created to eat! You are filling your every being with life giving and healing FUEL!
If you just "feel guilty" maybe your listening to a lie. But if your tummy is upset after drinking your smoothie, then maybe that's where the guilt is coming from. Listen to your body - It does know what's best for you.

I appreciate all the feedback! My tummy feels great. I've analyzed this for days. I think its psychological. I think it's really quantity guilt. But the real volume of the drink is water.
I'm going to try to get over it and move on. As I obviously can't give up the drink! :p

YUP!
Or am I overdoing it?
Nope!!!
Yanno what's funny? People create and drink something this nourishing and feel SOOO guilty yet, those who drink 44 oz. Big Gulps or 2-3 C. of coffee in the a.m. have no qualms.
Enjoy your drink. When it's time to change, your body will inform you of that matter. Stop listening to the lil monkey chatter in your head. You're doing fine.

Hi Katrina,
I've been making a Banana smoothie that actually holds me until lunch as well - it feels like a decadent treat. I've tried putting part of the smoothie away thinking that I shouldn't be drinking all of it at one time, but I figure why should I ! :o
The recipe I use comes from the book "Raw Food, Real World"
3 cups frozen diced banana
2 cups of Almond Milk
3 tblsps agave nectar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
pinch of salt
I will try your recipe later today. It sounds great !!

I've been drinking (freshly ground) flax seed and blueberry smoothies for YEARS now (about 5)
Never bored with them, and yes, I agree, the flax seeds affect me possitively, too. Omega-3's to the rescue!!
other ingredients may vary, but the flax/blueberry combo is key

Your daily "decadant" smoothie is perfect! Perfect size, perfect ingredients, and since you like it so much, perfect fit!
My smoothies are totally different every morning. Here's today's "decadant" treat:
1 banana
1 whole mango (OMG this is the BEST)
2 stalks celery
good sized chunk of raw ginger
cinammon (MUST have this every day or it doesn't taste "right")
1 tbs flaxseed
whole head of romaine, added leaf by loving leaf to the speeding Vitamix
Ice
giant glass of water
When I'm done with this, it's easily 8 cups by the marking on my Vitamix. It takes a while to drink it all and it's thick like a mango milkshake...
*salivating*
I have also been adding whey protein (one scoop or 2 tbs) and brewer's yeast (1/2 scoop or 1 tbs) to my smoothies, and I can go from 8 am to 3 pm without hunger. This works out great for me since I'm running all over the place all morning and 1/2 of the afternoon.
Yesterday was banana, fresh pineapple, celery (I just discovered the totally wonderful dimension celery adds to smoothies. Now I'm hooked.) and spinach with coconut oil (OMG this is great stuff!) instead of flaxseed.
Day before was banana kiwi orange kale with soaked almonds...you get the idea. Lots of variety, lots of combinations, happy happy joy joy!
Enjoy!
Jackie,
Wow ! That sounds amazing !! I, unfortunately, have allergic reactions to Mango - is there a replacement that you would suggest ?

sounds delicious.
I drink about 16 oz of fresh OJ every morning, along with at least 10 oz of fresh mint or chamomile tea, and probably 1 or two pieces of fruit.
a couple of days ago, I had my oj, my tea and 8 clementines, then only one hour later I ate two bananas, and then 4 kiwis.
That was just before lunch. LOL
