Quite honestly, never have known anyone who stuck with something like this very long--including yours truly. But don't be disuaded by me. Might be best to do those 24 hour fasts when you are well rested and feeling good instead of following a weekly schedule.

i was informed that it is by day 3 approx that the body in 80% toxins so 1 day i'd imagine is just a simple "break" to your digestive system not doing any deep level cleansing or repairing. although it is still nice to let your body play catch up with a one day fast.
I did a 12 day fast and it was on day 3-5 that I REALLLLLLY started feel some internal shifting I had the emotional detox, body ache etc POWERFUL..........day 12 was tranforming INCREDIBLE feeling of lightness, calmness and the knowing that you are healing. :)

Hi!
Yes, it addition to having done many water fasts, including a long one, I also fast one day per week--every Wednesday.
While longer fasts do obviously detox the body more, you'd better -believe- that once a weeks helps eliminate junk as well. It's also great for maintenance.
Wednesday is in the middle of the week, so it will not deprive you of the joy of eating on the weekends. Holidays rarely ever fall on Wednesday (whereas some are permanently scheduled for Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays).
Plus, if you are spiritual, Wednesday is the day related to the element of Water. How perfect for fasting ;)

I've been doing it religiously for 2 years straight now - every Monday. Never slowed my metabolism. actually sped it up (surprise to me!) And at the beginning of each month, a 3 day fast, and at the start of each season, a 7 to 10 day fast. That's my routine. I've got that down pretty good. NOw for the raw food thing.

Thanks for your post, livenraw. You've inspired me. I'm going to do a three day fast today (Friday), Saturday, and Sunday, then break the fast on Monday morning. I like the schedule you have been using. I'm going to try to follow it. I have a highly stressful and physically demanding job. I'll probably have to schedule time off to do a 7 to 10.

I think I read, in a Paul Bragg book, that he did a similar fasting schedule. I am going to do it..starting with a one day fast today...on just distilled water...maybe with some lemon juice and maple syrup..like the Master cleanse...
I will probably begin a "catchup" 7-10 day winter cleanse...within the next week or so...
Thanks for the ideas....

the hippocrates institute endorses the practice of fasting one day each week. it made a lot of sense to me when i read about it in brian clemente's (current head of hippocrates inst.) book, living foods for optimum health.
good luck and please tell us how you feel if you decide to start.

I do mine on every thursday and I never felt better. If you are not used to fasting, it is best to do either a half day fast or a mono-diet on that chosen day, progressing to mono juice and if you think you can take it, water.
Fasting is the best gift you can give to your body for healing it in all aspects, physically, mentally and spiritually.
I have not 'observed' any cons but I would say practising it has loads of pro.

I started off the New Year with a three day water fast. I've been water fasting at the beginning of every week for two weeks. I feel like I'm gaining more control over my eating habits. I still have a tendency to overextend myself and not get enough rest. But I'm working on it. I'm also exercising regularly--something I was also not including in my life. I've been underweight for a long time on the raw diet. In the past, I feared getting even lighter. The combination of fasting one day-a-week and excercise seems to have speeded up my metabolism and stabilized my weight. I'm not getting lighter. I'm gaining muscle and feeling good. I've enjoyed reading everyones input on this subject, especially tsilent and livenraw. Please keep us posted.

Although I am doing the MC (today is day 14), I like to fast every Wednesday as much as possible for enhanced mental and spiritual clarity since Wednesday is by "birth" day of the week (day of the week on which I was born)....

I do 24 hour water fasts almost a year now and I am very happy with them - I started feeling better from them even before I was 100 percent raw. I read Bragg's book too and on his suggestions started eating more raw already then, so starting from last spring I lost over 16 pounds(10 of them now after 8 weeks raw).As for metabolism - actually people with slow metabolism live much longer IF they eat healthy and don't overeat. My grandma was thin as a stick, but she ate tons of animal fat like butter and meat(so most likely she had fast metabolism) and she died horrible death after many strokes in two years at 73. Just vegetables from her garden were able to keep her well untill then.
I read that the best health can be achieved by maximum nutrients in the least amount of calories. Greens foot the bill the best, although we do need some carbohydrates, so fruit is needed too.
I did stop my fasting for a month as I started raw, because I felt very very very weak, so it was too much detox for me and I have a 2.5 year old active son, who is still nursing.

What is mono juice? And you fast once a week? Only water on those days? Is it really beneficial? I'd love to try it. Any tips you could give me?

So Livenraw, that means you average about 100 days of fasting per year all together or am I way off. I think I am going to try your method.
