Hey guys...

I just tried a LARABAR. It 'twas' so great! They are all raw, and a great treat for on the run. I bought this one at the Living Temple for $2.00 I think, but I found them online for $1.57 at http://greenleaf-naturals.com/foodbars/larabar.html. I tried the apple pie which was great- very moist and chewy! But they also have cherry pie, banana cookie, chocolate coconut, and a few others.... I just wanted to put the info out because I know all of us, especially at this time of year, are running around on 'empty' and to help prevent that turn into the nearest drive through, this may help your cravin's until you reach a safe zone...

ingredients in the Apple Pie Larabar: Dates, walnuts, unsweetened apples, almonds, raisins, & cinnamon

I love Larabars too. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my local health food store carries them.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lara and receiving a case of assorted bars because she had not many visitors to her booth during the Natual Foods Expo, that kew about Raw. I love them, and my husband - bless his soul, ate up most of them.

Cool- they are so yummy for a quick snack! That's my problem- I have 3 small kids and we are on the run all the time. These are a quick grab in the bag and go options... sometimes bananas get a little boring. These feel like real grub. How lucky are you to have met Lara... it seems her bars are a real hit now!

I was wondering about what you all said about these 2 being not raw... this is what her website claims is in them:

Chocolate Coconut Chew — you'll swear you're eating a brownie! The unsweetened cocoa, however, is actually good for you, providing more antioxidants than green tea. Harmonizing with the dates and refreshing coconut are almonds and walnuts. All told the bar is a whole-food source of 16 essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, Vitamin E, folic acid and more than 2 grams of Omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids. So satisfy that sweet tooth … and be healthier for it.

The Cashew Bars have just unprocessed cashews and dates.

Our conventional-food grocery store sells them now, for less than what I used to pay for them. (30% less. Those suckers used to be 2.79 plus tax Canadian!!) They are tasty, and for many people in the early stages of raw, are a darned sight better than eating cooked food.

However, if I am in a grocery store I'm not likely to buy them anymore simply because all the fresh, fragrant, delicious fruit has more eye appeal to me these days. Not to mention both are equally "convenient" and "fast food like" to me.

I saw this thread earlier and just came home from the store. I checked out the wrappers. Most of the larabars with chocolate in them...the newer ones...say 90% raw. The ones like apple and cherry pie are 100% raw.

We sell them in Wild Oats. They are good. But I notice that it does not give me the concious eating feeling then when I have when I make something fresh. Anyway, I am glad that more and more raw things are showing up and that it comes more and more to the conciousness of lots of people.
And I think we shoudn't make anything right or wrong, but just choose what feels right for us in that moment and let other people have their choices in their moment.

I wish they weren't so darn expensive, though...I stumbled across Raw Revolution bars being sold by the case on Amazon.com for a case of 12 bars for $13.50...that's ALMOST something I can afford...I just can't justify that to myself, though...not when I can get fresh produce for much cheaper.

I *love* the Lemon Bar flavour.

Transitioning, I ate alot of chocolate Greens Plus bars (which kicked ***,) but, I thankfully lost my taste for them and moved on to treating the Lemon Bars as my desert :)

I have a box of the chocolate mint Mayas on hand to eat with "homemade frosting" in case I get a chocolate attack, but, I don't really like them!

I bought this bar the other day. I decided to get chocolate coconut. At first when I ate it I thought ahhh.. it tasted the same as the Sequal vegan bar only less pugent. But the after taste wasn't so bad. I can live with eating the Larabar if I have to eat a bar at all. I give it a 3 out of 5 for as good as raw bars probably would get. ;)

Hey There -
Are you talking about The Living Temple in Old World, Huntington Beach?
If so.... They sell Lara Bars at Mother's as well. They also have a good variety of pre-made Raw treats like Raweos, pies from Good Mood Food, and cinnamon rolls! Also wraps (their mock tuna one is the best!) and raw burritos.
I went to the Living Temple once and it was really weird. there was random fruit laying around and a few books... but it struck me as a really odd place. I couldn't stay long. I just felt like the guy was waiting and staring at me. I had to leave... I felt strange being in there. So I went to the vintage store instead!!! Yay! Now... I love that store!

Oh... OK, I see you are from Vista! I just moved from Oceanside to Huntington Beach.
I miss Oceanside ... :( Have you ever been to Cream of the Crop? It is this adorable little health food shop on Coast Hwy. I used to go (no kidding) every day. Also there is a raw food restaurant (which you probably know...) in Carlsbad called Cilantro Live. It is a little on the $$$ side... but it is a nice treat!
NOW... I am getting ready to move to Montana! :D
Ohh.... all of this moving is making me nastalgic for Oceanside, HB, MT... I don't know what to be sad or nastalgic... I just feel weird.
I have to settle down and stay in one spot for at least two years at some point!!!

I recently contacted the company to find out about its "rawness." :)

Here was the reponse I received:

Dear Janelle,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate your interest in our products.

The ingredients we use in LÄRABAR are dehydrated below 118 degrees, which we consider to be raw. In addition, our ingredients are not heated to temperatures in excess of 118 degrees during production. The two exceptions are cashews, which are heat steamed to extract the nut from the fruit of the tree, and cocoa powder, which comes from a roasted bean. Also, the lemon juice in our Lemon Bar flavor is flash pasteurized for safety.

I hope this information is helpful! We appreciate your patronage!

Sincerely,

Heidi Swoboda

I like the lemon too Naiad. Very tangy and sweet like a pie used to taste. Trinity, the choco coconut didn't rock my world either...I blitzed them and used them for crusts for blueberry pie becsaue they weren't very tasty to me...I wanted more coconut I think.

I had a Rebar for the first time today and quite liked it. It's raw fruits and veggies. It did make me hyper tho....not sure if that's a bad thing cuz I got a lot done afterward! They are in Canada but available in the US too. Not sure about the UK.

I just discovered these last night in my health food store and *loved* the cocoa mole one.. or something like that. it's spicy! mmm.

I had the chocolate coconut chew just now and it was ok... definitely liked the mole one better.

I think I'd eat these just as a treat now and then.. but actually I was thinking I could probably make them myself at home! (and it might be cheaper)
