Hey there, I'm new to the board, but wanted to contribute something that happened in my state this past week (sorry if this is a repeat post).

http://cbs4.com/local/local_story_356114740.html

I am a social worker and I always find it interesting when these child welfare issues play out. Juries and media love to say that veganism, raw foods, etc always result in starvation. But the reason they make headlines is that starvation while a child is on these diets is SO far and few between. There are starvation cases all of the time but are always on meat-based diets. I never hear about these through media outlets.

Just like with any "alternative" diet, parents have to learn how to properly feed their kids since we don't have shelves of pre-made porducts to mindlessly put into our kids' mouths.

But think, one day raw foodists will be much more accepted in American society :)

That is such a shame! There are a few threads going on about this. Here is a search I've done for "Andressohn" : http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/search.php?searchid=237116

I know that they are ready to do any and everything to be reunited with their children, which is TOTALLY understandable and I'd do the same. But it's sad that the "diet prescribed by a Pediatrician" is most likely going to end up being full of milk, cheese and other dairy, meat and all that other "good" stuff!

IF they are allowed to choose their own Pediatrician (yeah...like that's gonna happen) hopefully they'd be able to at least find one who advocated a cooked VEGAN diet. One can only hope!

I guess they don't realize that the intrinsic within the SAD diet is a plethora of medical problems which generally don't surface until after the child reaches adulthood ....at which point their governmental control over the child ceases...TOO SAD...

That video was sad. I do not know what really happened, but they were claiming that the baby was "starved" on a bizarre raw food diet. They made no meantion of the fact that the baby had no thymus gland which controls the immune system. I think that other raw parents will have problems because of this. I just hope that more info is out by the time I decide to have children.
