ive tried around 10 fast now over past 18 months in an attempt to cure what has been diagnosed as ibs , ive had all standard test finding nothing . also ive been a vegan 12 year , on off raw foodist past 5 . but ive only been able to get anywhere from 3 to 16 days on my fast because my stomach gets so sour and my tongue gets so white coated that it makes me constantly near nausiated . the only way for me to eliminate sourness is to break water fast by adding orange juice or eat solid food . which i dont want because i believe the only way to heal my gastro problem is via water fast of say 30 days . thusly am wondering if anyone has advice ? maybe a herb tea that would dissolve what i guess is toxic mucous developing in my intestinal tract as my cells flush out toxins during fast ?

Perhaps a 30 day fast is _not_ what you need to cure your IBS.

We've been a household of IBS people ( all three females)..and fasting only made it WORSE. Raw food, clean water, exercise, and probiotics/fermentation is what does it for us.

My oldest daughter, all of 15 years old, is down almost 8 PANT SIZES since September 1. EIGHT! She was gaining weight, but couldn't keep anything in either orafice ( oral or anal ) - and nothing.. and I mean NOTHING was digested. After probios and raw food with TONS of water - she's doing fabulous ( as LONG as she keeps to raw and probios).

If I'd have had a juicer and I'm getting one for CHRISTMAS for the family ( yay me!), I'd have had her on straight carrot juice, straight celery juice, and other concoctions that would feed her directly into her bloodstream.

I think, truthfully, if you're asking little ole' me - you need to EAT and drink rather than fast right now.

..... slinks away ....

alot of these conditions have a commonality of poor stomach health particularly flora---have you tried adding a probiotic?

i had to cut my fast short and stop at day 12b/c of my complicated stomach issues.

what did you usually drink during your fast?

ive been drinking water during fast as long as possible til my stomach gets too sour , then i mainly juice oranges or apples and pineapples . ive tried probiotics before but not during fast so that i"ll try now because im on day 8 of a water fast now . thanx for idea . ps - when i get off soley water during fast i also have tried adding many different herb teas , peppermint , chamomille , cranberry , milk thistle , green , yerba mate .

Hey Michigan Roman,

wow a water ! i'm intending to do one of those hear shortly as i start another fast. i certainly found that using a probiotic when doing my fast was helpful b/c of the salt water flush i was doing. are you using a eliminator to remove the toxins???? i also noticed that citrus can be pos/neg when juicing so i stopped and apples seem to be the most friendly to the stomach. i would even suggest keeping your juices/herbal teas simple.....try not to use to many different things so that you can get a chance to see what works for you and what doesn't. i was guilty of this myself doing many variations b/c i wanted to heal so fast !!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

if you add a probiotic, there is a brand called interplexus--that makes a human strand form of bacteria. interestingly, have you tired the opposite? do the juicing fast first to still get nutrients to rebuild your stomach and then work into a water fast? marshmallow root and licorice root are great on the stomach in puling toxins fromt he walls and soohting and rebuilding the lining.

i'll try to find the thread i started that talked about stomach health and all these conditions......

this is a very helpful article. i must admit, i am born into eastern medicine principles and really believe that you cannot view each organ as an individual like western does................they are all relational to each other as i personally see it so that is why this article has been helpful to me. I can still adopt the principles yet make the raw. :)

thanx for all the ideas , im still on fast but stomach got too sour which weakens me so i had to drink some orange juice . then just now i rebelled a little and determined im staying on liquid fast but im grinding up some dunkin donuts coffee beans and having a cup of hot coffee because its been cold here in the great lakes region and ive been freezing on this fast , and that was a great cup of coffee that did wonders for my spirit so it was a good move for me . and another point i wanted to bring up is i think you said your a runner , and at the same time i believe your just getting into fasting . well if that is the case , because im into running , biking , lifting , wait til your like 4 days into a fast and you go out running with an empty digestive tract - YOULL FLY . thats when i run my fastest , it feels so awesomo (south park version of awesome) to be running and holding your gut rock hard . its like you become more aerodynamically efficient , you dont have any matter in your guts swishing around throwing your stride into a wobble . now that i think of it im surprised long distance runners that compete , i only run 2 to 5 miles per run on average for exercise , dont go on liquid diets a few days before a race to empty their tracts and fill their blood up with fuel by drinking some very concentrated juices like say maybe a spinach juice and a pineapple juice . well thanx again , and happy fastyear

hiya roman!

awesome, another runner.....yes, experienced that whole aerodynamic "pick me up" while jogging. i felt like lance armstrong without the wheels...........i use to lift until injuries so i'm slowly working on wt.

hhow are you feeling? i've changed my menu a bit and wanted to share........i find starting out with slippery elm water or marshmallow root tea, my fast is tolerable for my stomach. the yellow balances my vital organs and i have had great results in 1 1/2 days. i hae yet to try citron fruit tea which i highly desirable for leaky gut............i will let you all know how it is............so far so good! :)

hi misslinda, well the way i was feeling on day 10 of fast was shivering , i couldnt get warm . its only been getting up to low 20"s recently and i think it got to a point where i needed some fuel on my cell fires . ive been lifting and running through fast and guess i just burnt up all my fat reserves and started freezing , i dont have much fat on me at all . thusly my last act of most recent fast , 10 days mostly water , was to run up to my local produce market and fill my back pack with salad ingredients . xmas came early for me when i sat down to that salad . now its like 7 hours later and i feel like my body temp is back up to normal . you know im starting to get addicted to fasting , i love breakin them . i think im looking to go into a constant mode of eating like 7 day , water fast 2-3 on a day to day basis . it just seems like it would make you a more survival ready creature , and being able to hold a tight grip like that over your appetite would build confidence in a person . i tried finding that citron fruit tea at my local health store but didnt have . so it looks like my game plan is to eat over the xmas weekend then go into a short say 3 day water fast next week , eat a few days then fast a few . i really want a hammer lock on my appetite now , im sick of like ive done in the past eating things that i believe arent optimal and saying im cheating a little bit . i dont want to cheat any more . i believe we are forever old and that our bodies wear out and we have to go through the birth and development of a new body over and over until we master the physical laws of the universe and attain complete control of the state of our bodys , arriving at an eternal body state . and to get there your surely going to have to eat to perfectly provide your cells , an eternal being isnt going to be able to be weak willed and eating improper substances .

yes, i get the powder form of it as the whole version may be available too. i soak a 1/4 of tsp in room temp water and let it sit for 1o min and swirl it then drink it sparingly. i can actually feel it coat my stomach and i honestly say that it has been doing good for me.....i read that the body take 3-110 days to repair lining. Glutamine is another nutirient that is neccessary for repair lining tissue which is something i willneed to try. i am trying to find ywllow saffron tea.

best wishes ;)
