Hello! I made sushi the other night and it turned out very pretty - especially the cucumber, avocado and green onion roll cut into a deep blue dish! We really like eating sushi and this was my first attempt at making it at home - I was shocked it turned out so YUMMY! It even felt like we were out for dinner :)

What a beautiful table! And the food looks so good.

The problem I have with the Sushi are the Seaweed rolls that you roll the contents in. I find it hard to chew, it's kinda hard to eat. I would like to learn how to make sushi that I can truly eat, LOL! :) the nori rolls are too tough, though.

Thanks for the pic.

What a beautiful table, I agree. :) What is in your sushi, mrobinbird?

swiddweas, you should just moisten the rolls (the nori sheets) *a bit,* to help soften them for eating right away; otherwise, I would think, if you let them sit for a while, they will soften from the moisture of the contents.
Just take care not to use too much water/broth/oil to soften -- just brush some on the nori sheet, lightly, then place the contents on and roll -- as you run the risk of overdoing it and making them soggy!

mrobinbird, good job with that sushi. I like how you have that marinated portobello mushroom sliced on that plate.

I agree with Jaureqi... the nori will loosen and become soft and pliable after the mixture within can marinate ( if you make yours with a bit of liquid ). If not, you can take a brush with either oil or water.. or whatever raw "juicy" thing you can concoct..and just wipe the nori sheets with it. I'd roll almost immediately, though! You don't want to try to roll wet nori. LOL ( wouldn't that be a sight?)

Your plates look beautiful, mRobinbird.

mrobinbird,

Your dinner looks super delicious! Also loved the portobella in your display. Not a big fan of real sushi (although California roll was a fav), I was very pleased with Alissa's recipe, but I love the Nori wraps. As I understand, you are supposed to dip each piece of "sushi" and pop it in your mouth whole. So I now cut my slices a little thinner so I don't end up with a humongous mouthful. It is one of my favorite recipes, though.

Great presentation!

Best,

Hello! I put califlower (rice) with carrots & avocado in one and the other I used lettuce, sliced green onion and avocado. I was thinking to cut down on the saltiness of dipping the roll in Braggs that one could delute Braggs with water and brush on nori roll after the roll has been formed. That would be super yummy~ I marinated fresh ginger in a little sugar water and noticed that it made the ginger soft (like at sushi bar). Enjoy!!!! :)
