I have been eating raw for a few weeks now. I started with the Master Cleanse and juiced for a few days. Lost 30 pounds before I started eating. I decided to try and lose a few more pounds so I thought that I would eat just fruit for a few days. I started out with a pomagrante, then an orange, a tangerine, grapes, and then a pear. I never got satisfied and all through the day I kept thinking about SAD foods! I was determined that I was not going to put a SAD anything in my mouth so late last night I chopped up a bunch of spinach, poured olive oil and plum vinegar over them. I let them sit for about an hour. I put some in a little bowl and before I knew what had happened I had ate the whole bunch! Boy was I happy and satisfied! All those bad little SAD thoughts have disappeared!

I told a good friend of mine what happened and she said that the fruit that I ate, that had vitamin C, had a counterreaction to the iron in my body and that my body needed the iron from the spinach.

Is this true? Does Vitamin C and iron counterract? And if so does this mean that there is a need to maintain a balance between the two?

I've always heard/read that Vitamin C enhances iron absorption...

doesn't mean that your body wasn't craving iron though
or that your body was needing some greens... :)

It is quite OK to live on fruit only for days and days, if one wishes to do so. Just make sure that you eat enough. Think multiples of one type of fruit, rather that one piece of fruit at a time. It is easier to digest that, and it is more satisfying as well. :)

I tend to eat fruit all day and greens in the evening. I prefer tender greens these days.

Thanks Punky I think I need to check into Vitamin C and how it enhances Iron.

Gosia I think the next time I do my fruit thing I will do more volume of one kind at a time instead of a piece here and piece there. It does make more sense :o

Vit C DOES enhance iron absorption!! 100% truth here, honestly. Raw spinach doesn't decrease the absorption like cooked spinach does. So don't worry about it too much but if you increase your vit C a lot you will absorb more iron!!!!!

Yes, your body needs the citrtic acid to absorb iron. My daughter was anemic and the dietician told us she must get vitaman C and citrus to help absorb the iron from the food she was eating.

Congrats on staying Raw !
